What motive would China have to side with the West against Russia?

They just reiterated their feelings on the matter a day or so ago. That Russia is a huge strategic partner, that this could have been avoided if the West acted differently, etc.

All this serves to push them closer together, not to drive a wedge. To do that would be welcoming Russia into Europe, not pushing it out.

China knows this is in their best interests long term. Russia will turn to them to sell resources, the West will be hurting, etc.

Even if China is only acting in their own self-interests, they will continue to support Russia here.

I think the primary one would be food security concerns. China is by no means exempt from the imminent food price hikes. Even china doesn't want it's population unhappy at this. Also, consider how china plays the empire game nowadays. Their government goes to countries and... basically lobby it for everything it's worth. Infrastructure projects? China's got you, it'll build stuff in the cheapest and shittiest way your country can afford. You need a loan? china's got you as well. With interests that would terrify a loan shark. Natural resources? They'll buy ten years worth of it at whichever price. Need a business partner? The chinese government will get you investors. This is how china bought half the world and EU-US morals and principles ended up on a bargain bin (and sure, it'd be easier to go further but that's not the point for now). Russia's shenanigans are spiraling out of control and china is definitely going to take a hit as well, as much as anyone else at least. I suppose even this might not be enough to have them turn on russia but it sounds like a pretty safe bet that they are getting nervous at least.

I suppose china could also see this as an opportunity to get a bargain on russia though.

"2-day operation"? Source on that? Do you have an inside source telling you how long the Russians were prepared to dig in and engage?

The entire point is the Russians are pressing forward, not in retreat. They clearly think losses are in parameters, or else are completely crazy. And losses in such a conflict are unavoidable - is that such a provocative thing to say? Russia has lost small fractions of their total fighting power, and generally, yes, older gear. Ukraine can't even defend itself by any conventional means. Their losses represent significant fractions of their total fighting force. It's closer to an effective total loss at this point.

In a gambit that Putin thinks will be a net gain considering making Ukraine land-locked and secure the strait, acquire land, protect ethnic Russ people, he is losing less than he's gaining, and his military is still at near 100% capacity overall. Of course only time will tell. He's certainly all in for better or for worse for him.

Funny you keep mentioning gulf war/Desert Storm figures, but that was a very limited engagement and a more apt comparison would be the actual invasion and occupying forces of the 2003 Iraq War in which our losses certainly did mount up. Something where we had to actually take the cities and not just strafe from above with superior firepower from the skies.

I mean if those pesky civilians weren't an issue this probably could have been made into a 48hr ordeal. He hasn't started flattening whole cities yet to my knowledge.
A timed article was released after exactly two days and then quickly deleted, proving that russian media were supposed to announce victory after two days.
It was supposed to be a two day operation: Ukraine invasion: Russian state media article deleted after suggesting Russia victory achieved | World News | Sky News

You seem to desperately want to believe Putin or the Russians are some kind of tactical geniusses. They are not, they are showing just how poor their capabilities are.

There are no magical russian supersoldiers they are still holding back. By now they are shelling civilians because they are not able to win against the ukrainian military without leveling the cities.

I read that story a few days ago... doesn't it read a bit too propaganda-ish? It's definitely propaganda but.. for whom?

but yeah, russia's army seems to be more and more of a joke by the day. Waiting for a MoaBs now...

Do you know that a high percentage of americans lack savings in excess of $500.

These hikes in gas prices, could literally make or break peoples budgets.

It could be the difference between people being able to afford rent and other expenses.

And not being able to afford it.

...

I guess being a democrat makes a person completely immune to these troubles?
what makes you think being a democrat makes someone immune to these issues? Democrats face these issues as much as republicans do, but unlike most republicans they vote for the people that they think will get rid of these issues, like Biden or Bernie with their promise to reduce or completely get rid of student loan debts. Republicans would just rather shoot themselves in the foot than vote for what's best for them and Americans in general, as soon as they think opposing the "NASTY LIBS" will piss them off.

No one seems to care, because we have our own problems to deal with.
But more like, because no one gives a shit about nonwhite people/the East. News has been full of the West/white people calling Europe civilized and being shocked that shit like what's going on in Ukraine has happened because of how cIvIlIzEd Europe is, despite the fact that it saw two world wars in less than 40 years apart, along with numerous other wars for over 1000 years.

Ukraine being attacked by Russia really exposed what a lot of Westerners think about regions like Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, and it's mostly racist. The difference in the way Ukrainians are fighting for its freedom and defending itself is different from Palestinians doing the same thing to the violent invaders - Ukrainians are seen as heroes and freedom fighters while Palestinians are seen as terrorists, despite both fighting for the same/similar thing.
And, FFS, if I were living hand-to-mouth I couldn't imagine wasting time on this forum or elsewhere as opposed to spending more time on a side-hustle, starting a business, realigning my education for me to be a more valuable employee or whatever. Sheesh.

If you don't have access to more than 500 at any given time wtf are you doing here, reading manga, playing games, etc? No wonder people want to push socialism with that mentality. Wow.
Lol. You'd have to be privileged enough to think any of that is that easy.

No.

I can recognize wastes of time and money all the same though.

Back in 2016, I remember seeing hardcore democrat supporters saying US military veterans were off their meds for supporting Trump. There were soyboys and feminists who were calling US military vets "spineless" as they planned to vote Trump. Behavior on the part of democrats has typically been smug and rude. Which contributed heavily to alienating their own support base in historical democrat states.

There were democrats in california holding signs that said: "all of my heroes kill cops". It coincided with democrats pushing to defund police.

There are many democrats I see on social media and even in real life who seem to be happy about high gas prices and COVID restrictions as the people they don't like -- namely republicans and conservatives are suffering.

Some of you approach these topics as if history doesn't exist past 2 days ago.

There is a long history to all of this and people shouldn't be surprised if the impression the public has about democrats in general is very negative.

Conservatives still asspained because they supported a crackpot and people reacted to that however they did. Someone please wake me up whenever Trump can no longer hold office so we can go back to hyperfixating on wedge issues instead and ignore our way to the first trillionaire.

I know exxactly what you mean! I do not understand what is up with the democrats. They seem to not care about the high commodity prices. Maybe they want society to deteriorate? I think perhaps the democrats are doing EVERYTHING they possibly can to stay relevant, keep votes, and push their agendas. I theorize they don't even believe in some of their fellow democrats' agendas and are only pushing them forward so that their own agenda can be fulfilled. I think thats the only way to get anything done with how radical and diverse the liberal ideas are.

You mention "hardcore democrat supporters" in the beginning, but smuggle in "typical democrats" near the end hoping no one would notice.

Is it the hardcore democrats you're talking about, or democrats in general?

There were democrats in california holding signs that said: "all of my heroes kill cops". It coincided with democrats pushing to defund police.
And there were Republicans in Charlottesville South Carolina carrying tiki torches and chanting "Jews will not replace us" and "blood and soil".

You really wanna play this game?

I'm not happy about it because conservatives are suffering. I'm happy about it because I shouldn't have to suffer because of a Republican's selfishness. Your right to throw a punch ends at my nose. Your right to fill the air with covid ends at my... well also my nose.

There is a long history to all of this and people shouldn't be surprised if the impression the public has about democrats in general is very negative.
Lol wait, what? You do know that with the exception of George W. Bush's re-election after 9-11, NO Republican presidential candidate since 1984 has won the popular vote, correct? People that don't even LIVE IN AMERICA view the Republican party as crazy, or evil, or BOTH. You're the stereotype that the planet makes jokes about in their media.

The Republican party may not be a racist party, but it is the party who's policies benefit racists, so it attracts racists. It may not be a homophobic party, but it is the party that promotes policies that promote homophobia (or at least protects one's right to be homophobic), so it attracts homophobes. Same for transphobes, xenophobes, whatever phobe you'd call people that hate poor people.

Do you really, truly, without just trying to get under our skin... think that society at large likes the Republican party better than it does the Democratic party?

Really? Really?!

That's irrelevant because they're globalist pawns.

You know, unlike the people that think they shouldn't have to pay a single cent more in taxes... :kappa

I wonder what the plan is if we find a way around the electoral college. Like... if the Republican party actually had to rely on the votes of the people that want to identify as Republicans somehow being greater than the amount of people that want to identify as Democrats (or at the very least, hate what the Republican party stands for in their eyes, so they vote for the lesser of two evils) how could they pull it off?

Funnily enough, a revision or removal of the electoral college would help loosen the grip the two party system has on current politics.

One party is aware of this and is still at least appearing to be more open to it than the other... curious!

About high commodity prices. I say we declare this whole pandemic thing over. No mandatory masks or vaccine or social distancing. (if someone dies cus they didnt get the vaccine or protect themselves properly, I say it is their fault and it was deserved, they should have had plenty of time to get the shot!) No more of that stimulus check stuff, inflation too high already! We encourage working and raise the federal minimum wage by a dollar every 3-6 months to a max of $14 or $15. Drill our own oil! Interest rate hikes! Less democrats and keep/put the people in prison so there is less crime and better communities! Housing regulation, we end the rich people taking over the homes and making them so expensive, I heard the chinese are buying our land, that is RIDICULOUS. Less taxation or more taxation regulation, especially on the corporations/rich. They have so much money and power and are not doing enough good with it.

Republicans are all about God, Guns and the Constitution.

Charlottesville south carolina is a democrat city, in a democrat state.

I'm pretty sure those crazy people shouting "jews will not replace us, blood and soil" were all registered democrats.

Could not relate to those people at all.

They were the opposite of the fox news stereotype.

Unite the Right happened in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Not that it matters, the point you think you're making there is completely disingenuous. And that's me being generous.

No you can't.

Wtf is "soyboys?" Conservatives really do love making up words or using words incorrectly to insult others. I feel like you're making things up as usual, especially regarding feminists attacking US vets. however, Trump did gut a lot of things and hurt the vets, even blocked a veteran group's Twitter at one point.

Lol, as opposed to Republicans openly inciting violence and hatred with their lies and openly being bigoted? Democrats haven't alienated their support bases much, they've mostly alienated the left. I feel like you lack complete understanding of any of this, unless you're trolling.

But many of these same Democrats are re-funding the cops or increasing their funding.

I"ve never seen any such democrat be happy, especially since they're suffering from high gas prices as well. In fact, many Dems and left I know are angry at the prices, but some are willing to put up with it if it means Russia/Putin losing. The irony here is that the covid restrictions also affect the Dems, and majority of them are actually following it with no issue.

That seems like a projection, as I often either see republicans rewriting history to what they want or conveniently forgetting what happened. However, the public sees the republicans as far worse than democrats, as well as the main reason why Americans are doing so badly.

About high commodity prices. I say we declare this whole pandemic thing over. No mandatory masks or vaccine or social distancing. that is very ignorant. What about people who can't get vaccine due to lack of accessibility or because their body can't handle it? Why should they die because the government failed them or because their body isn't strong enough?

Loool at you thinking republicans aren't the bigger problem. Other than ending the rich people taking over homes, your ideas seem to be on the wrong track.

Have you noticed Elon Musk and Joe Rogan moving from california to texas.

Imagine a republican who drives a big truck, who owns 50 shotguns saying we should have a right wing conservative gathering in california. Or a democrat city like charlottesville.

Real republicans don't want to visit blue states, much less hold their pivotal political rallies in them.

"Unite the right" was a fake political rally if there ever was one.
