But those 3 are cut from the same cloth... what division is there?

Idk, I'm not sure how other conservatives feel about this comparison, but the impression you have is literally the complete opposite of how I see it. Democrats would never rally behind a candidate like Republicans did for Trump, Howard Dean was shitcanned after the Iowa Caucus for being too loud during a speech. :lmao

If the enemy of my enemy, is my friend.

And the media is the enemy of the american people as some claim.

Donald Trump would be my friend, due to the media attacking him.

Nancy Pelosi would also be my friend, due to the media attacking her.

Obama also my friend, thanks to the media blaming him for everything.

Joe Biden might also be my friend due to the media attacking Hunter Biden right now.

The media also spent the last 6 years attacking Elon Musk.

The media hates Putin too if you can believe that.

There is a degree of logical deduction which might be applied to politics and current trends that borders on being mathematical.

No one thinks these things on the whole though...aside from maybe crazy people

I get referring to things in monolithic terms is something most people are guilty of, but "the media" isn't some puppeteer that exists to torment the public.

The media is flawed because it's been infused with chasing tv ratings and ad revenue rather than it being a requirement in a democracy. But you can still achieve this yourself if you're discerning enough. But even then, back 50 years ago the media was still taking most of it's cues from the State Department... so how unbiased has it ever been really?

I think that's a "fair" approach, but the issue is with the police these issues are largely systemic. These police departments are set up to be this way, because yeah, a job like being a police officer is often a thankless job, so they protect their own before anyone else. So some people will see the public shitting on them and want to be defensive for them. Or they know a cop or someone in their family is a cop. But just think about the kind of job they have, and the systems in place and what's criminalized and what isn't, and who is more likely to interact with police on a regular basis and who isn't. And also what the police are actually there for at the end of the day, and no, it's not preventing crime or protecting citizens, sometimes that just happens by accident.
I don't agree it's a thankless job, honestly. I think that's what they'd like you to think. For the most part from a young age we were told to revere, respect, and trust police officers. I think the latter generations are tired of that, and it's starting to shift to a point where not everyone wants to kiss their asses and they're upset about it. Part of my opinion could be geographic. I have lived in Texas for a long time, and the red politics here are very pro-Blue.

My biggest problem with the police in the USA boils down to a single thing: It's way too easy to be a cop here. Way too easy. We treat police like city profit centers. Between Civil Asset Forfeiture, speed traps, mandatory minimums and incentivizing police to essentially ruin lives over minuscule things (possession, for instance, should not be a felony that follows someone forever). It blows my mind that we don't do monthly PT tests on police officers in this country. Hell, take a look at the group photos of the Uvalde PD; I don't think a single one of them is suited for an on-foot chase. How the hell can they do their job effectively if they are so overweight that they'd be outta breath getting out of their car? We require constant PT of our military, whether they're doing a physically demanding job or not.

There are some good cops out there, but in general police are not our friends. Your average police officer wouldn't think twice about putting you or I in prison for 10 years and separating us from our families, rendering us unable to get a decent job for the rest of our lives, over something as minor as possession (in rural TX all it'd take is some weed).

I don't know how easy it is to be a cop (I know at least one guy who was rejected), but the problem is how cops are rarely ever held accountable, and given how so many of them tend to be shitty people, it's dangerous to give them this much power.

Cops get a lot of "benefit of the doubt" because societally we still look at them as defenders and arbiters of justice. So when they slip up, it's no biggie because they're usually super admirable in all other aspects of life.

This isn't true, but it's what people think/believe. Hell, even I'm still willing to give the average cop a bit of leeway because as said, not all cops are pieces of shit.

What does it matter?
I'd like to know if the republicans are lying as usual or if it's true.

But by now, cops have proven to be the opposite to the point that they were willing to have violence just because they refused to stop killing Black people. The people in power likely don't really see cops as defending justice as much as they see cops as defending racism, so that's probably why they're barely held accountable even after everything.

Becoming a cop is insanely easy in TX. I'm sure the mileage may vary depending on where you at.

"This brand of human rights doesn't fly well with most of the people that vote for me, so I guess I'll just complain about gas prices"

I'm always curious what the limit is for States' Rights people? Aside from guns obviously.

Republicans will support whatever they want, and they'll oppose whatever they don't want, no matter how hypocritical or double standards it makes them look.

I don't think republicans have any double standards on that specific issue though.
