Ya I'm not American but I have seen Muslims being very happy about Mamdani's win. Congrats to NYC.
They don't want to google or research anything, they just want their shitty viewpoints confirmed and justified.Tag on the misinformation relegating him to some antisemetic dick, bro that shit is absolutely abhorent. Like wtf it is 2025 and people cannot turn on a quick google search for some accuracy. Hell, don't wanna search? Shout out hey Siri/Google and just ask and I bet you it'd be much more accurate (disclaimer: ai is not always accurate but I bet it'd be here) than what misguided and paid off faith leaders would tell them.
The good news out of all of this is that we have over 1 million correct minded New Yorkers who disqualified the bullshit and voted for the right side of history. Do I agree with all the ideas Mamdani has to say? No. Do I think that he is still the best to represent NYC? YES. By a longshot. Not the best of two evil type deal. This dude is just good. And this, I feel is the reason why over a million voters can see pass any disagreements and get behind such a guy. Seeing his victory speech...that shit invoked Obama, arguably one of a few "scientists" that became president. I was proud to be American all over again watching that speech.
It is very regrettable that John McCain did not get to see this day because despite all of his differences with the left, I'm pretty sure he would have saw the bipartisan good in all of this as left leaning as Mamdani is. It was a good night for America, yet it did not make America great because the way things worked out, it shows that America already is great, great enough to still allow such events to happen in the face of ever growing autocracy and fascism.
This reads as you being okay with innocent people dying.Still can't believe they just captured maduro. Didn't expect 2026 to be awesome.
Innocent how? Maduro was a narco president who stole at least 2 elections brazenly enough to get most of the world to not even recognize him as president of venezuela. Venezuelan military was complicit in this nonsense. Add to that maduro's widespread connections to cartels, guerrillas, tren de aragua... Since chavez's days venezuela has been giving safe havens to a variety of colombia's murderous guerrillas. Who even knows how many political prisoners venezuela has.. Let alone election interference in the region. Trump's the furthest thing from a good faith actor but at this point I still welcome any change in the status quo. This reads as you being okay with innocent people dying.
That seems like a crazy opinion if you look at how well that worked out in Iraq or Lybia. There is a very real chance that this will lead to a civil war in Venezuela. There is no scenario in which this will make Venezuela more democratic, as it has less possibilities to call its own shots if it is more dependent on the US. Because you better belief that if Trump gets his way, that oil "deal" will not be a favorable condition for Venezuela.Innocent how? You think that's good for Venezuela? For it to be run under Trump? For Trump to bomb cities and kill citizens as well? There are plethora of issues stemming from this, and most result in violence against citizens.Innocent how? Except that, you know, there's no troops yet on the ground over in venezuela. And sure, things could escalate but that was already in the cards. Since, you know, maduro had already lost two elections and remained in power. The biggest threat from actual violence at this point would come from guerrillas and "peace corp" type goons that maduro and those of his ilk keep around on taxpayer dollar to intimidate or murder the opposition. That seems like a crazy opinion if you look at how well that worked out in Iraq or Lybia. I'm not defending the totality of US actions around the globe through history. On the other hand the entire region has "anti western hegemony" parties and movements and they all sit somewhere on the violent/criminal end of communism/socialism and are more than happy to shill for murderous dictators like maduro and so forth. The "anti western hegemony" folk are not exactly fans of free markets and allow democracy only for those who agree with them. And literally everyone else is a traitor. And none of this explains the justification for Trump deciding to engage in Team America World Police part 178
The reality is that corrupt governments that exist in places like Venezuela and in other Central/South American countries in the past are a direct byproduct of western hegemony.

Just in case anyone wants to argue what happened was a good thing or for the sake of democracy

But... there already was violence against citizens. Two stolen elections and thousands of political prisoners. Things weren't just fine before maduro was taken. The way I see it there were two scenarios up until maduro was taken: 30 more years of his ilk in power or massive violent uprisings with civilians confronting the military to finally drag maduro out of the presidential palace. I didn't think the military coup option was likely because maduro had grip on them. And with two stolen elections (at least) anyone who thought there was a democratic way out of this is either delusional or lying. With maduro being out of the picture there's at least more possibilities (and of course, some of them are that things become worst). You think that's good for Venezuela? For it to be run under Trump? For Trump to bomb cities and kill citizens as well? There are plethora of issues stemming from this, and most result in violence against citizens.
This also sends a message to other leaders to comply with Trump Admin or get extracted and imprisoned. And if they don't do as Trump wants, his admin will not hesitate to commit violence and ignore proper way of doing things.
There were no boots on the ground in Lybia either. How did that turn out, just removing the leader and leaving a power vacuum in an already volatile country?Except that, you know, there's no troops yet on the ground over in venezuela. Not great, but so far* venezuela isn't Lybia. Heck, the vice president took over as president (for now). I am not unaware of the risks here and with how maduro's government is affiliated to guerrillas, gangs and cartels to varying capacities (which shouldn't be understood as cartel de los soles being a thing) there could be something brewing. The best outcome for now would be either Gonzales being swore in or having new elections. There were no boots on the ground in Lybia either. So you're asserting that Maduro being removed is more important than whether countries should feel emboldened to do what the US just did by kidnapping him? I just don't agree.I'm not defending the totality of US actions around the globe through history.
