Discussion anime vs manga

I like both the Manga and the Anime, but I do prefer the Manga over the Anime. Generally, the original material is better than the adaptation just like Books vs. Movies. With Manga and Books, the reader must visualized the rest of the scenes. Initial scenes might be given, but the reader must use their imagination to see what they believe it to be. They also give more details and don't skip anything and stay true to the source material. The adaptation like Anime and Movies are a way to see what the creators view of the original is. Sometimes they leave out or add things to the original material.

Biggest Pet Peeve:
Manga vs. Anime: In the Manga, Zeff eats his leg while in the Anime he just survives 20+ days without food.
Book vs. Movie: Don't get me started on Harry Potter. The movies just suck!

IMO you can't answere this question fairly. I watched the anime first and its definite that I enjoyed the animation more. You can't argue that the epic moments such as when he defeats crocodile, rings the golden bell and beats lucci were way more memorible in the anime. Wheras once you read ahead of the anime, re watching the moments is not as good because you know whats going to happen and you are comparing, and you notice the slower pace.

As everyone knows, Oda rams each page full and the manga has a quick pace and the anime (sometimes) substitutes for this with extended fights and gags.

I stopped watching the anime because of the terrible drawing and animation of Sabaody Archipelago arc.

I enjoyed the anime, some eps are epic, but really I can't go back to watching it now that I've see this crappy arc, and obviously cause the manga is way ahead.

It's too bad 'cause I think the anime could (should, in fact) be a must-see. If only they could make only 26eps a year, with a better rythm, better drawing and animation, it'd be awesome, but money rules, sadly.

So manga > anime.

Impel Down was pretty horrible, except the last 2 episodes of the arc.

The new intro injected faith into me that the Marineford Arc might actually be beautiful.
With all the fillers and unnecessary stretching of some episodes, I hope they used that slack-off-time to make Marineford battles epic.
If not, I might sue Toei for being the biggest animation company but having worse quality than small animation companies - and One Piece doesn't deserve that.

Manga, however, has been constantly good and art style hasn't changed dramatically.

in Anime> I seek for more deep emotion feeling of the story that I can get from all the seiyuu's work I.e. Drum Kingdom arc, Merry's funeral, etc.. bcz sometime I can't get touched by just reading manga and just using my imagination..

I both read the manga and watch the anime. Though the manga tops the anime every time. About the shabondy arc, I actually really enjoyed the anime there. It was really stretched out (pun intended) but I liked the animation. Imple down on the other hand was disappointing, stilled watched it though and I will keep on watching.

really? i don't find the show as emotional as the manga could be the fact i know what happens though.......nah it just doesn't have that same feeling.

this forum is pointless being that the animators use Oda's work for complete references for the anime, so the "manga" is obviously better, especially since Oda is doing the art and writing.

I like both but I think the anime would be way better if they changed gears ... what I mean is more than one chapter per episode.

The manga's obviously going to be better, pacing and drawing-wise; they almost always are. (The only TV anime I've ever seen that's better than its manga is Ghost in the Shell.)
But One Piece is almost made to be animated, with music and blood and sky and lots of screaming and ridiculous laughs and psychedelic colours. Even the style of the drawing reminds me of old stretchy Popeye-type cartoons. The anime got me into One Piece, and when I read the manga the only translations of the early chapters that I could find were either appallingly bad Edited Mangas or the childish official versions. So for East Blue at least up till Jaya when it starts to drag, I enjoyed the anime more. Plus the music is fantastic, and the voice actors for the main characters are so good at what they do that you almost hear their voices while reading the manga.

I don't think the switch to HD fits the cartoony art style of One Piece. The lines are too thin so it shows every mistake and wobble, and looks less detailed than the old episodes even though it isn't.

But then the great thing about manga is no matter how cheap your budget gets, all you need is a pen and paper and maybe a bunch of assistants to save time with backgrounds etc. The anime might be completely ruined by lack of budget or attention to detail, but the manga will still be perfect as long as Oda has ideas.

Do you generally rate OP less as a manga? I went back and reread the whole war start to finish and it was brilliant, Ace's death was fantastic, it was brilliantly done and really well built up, that is what is missing when you read manga one chapter at a time. The 2 things i really dislike Oda for doing is NOT killing Pell, and BB getting two fruits, however both these things in hindsight i can live with, because it made ace's death more monumental and made BB even more evil.

As for the anime I think it wipes the floor with every other animated series, DBZ, Death note, naruto, bleach are horribly done by comparison!

No! One piece is the greatest manga, however you guys must admit that One Piece anime is a lot worse than manga. Anime was great but now its just simply bad especially that part that Bon-chan was getting Luffy out of the prison, he have fake blood and that just doesnot show how bad it was for him to get there. They need to make One Piece anime tougher, just like when Luffy was fighting the CP9.

I don't think One Piece anime is the best among the big 3, but manga just might be. I'm torn between Naruto and OP, since both are pretty monumental.

I was never quite satisfied with Oda's art and style and would rate it the lowest out of the big 3, but the story, plot and events just made up for it. In the begining, manga and anime were sort of bad - not the best drawings in the manga, and anime was often sloppy, but then around 100, 150+ eps, IMO, anime looked way better than manga.

After Enies Lobby though, manga got significantly better in terms of eye appeal, while anime sort of dropped. At around that time anime started introducing random fillers and recaps and really just killing down the pace.

I mean, remember the recap episodes when they were saving Robin? What the fuck was that, I never got over those. It was like 5 episodes of nothing. And then in the middle of Luffy vs Lucci, they give us those Edo era fillers and just ruin the flow and the mood.

Don't get me wrong, I liked them, the fillers were good and funny, and well interesting. But it totally wrecked the main plot's flow IMO.

Still, I can't really say that I would like the manga as much, if anime wasn't there. Without the seiyu and music themes, it just wouldn't be the same. This way, I can hear whoever is speaking in the manga, since I'm familiar with their voice, and that can't be overlooked.

I think people who only read manga and never watched the anime are missing out on the total experience.

It honestly depends on what point of the story both have reached. To take a recent example, the Impel Down and Marineford arcs were, in my opinion, absolutely epic in the manga. The anime's pacing starting at Impel Down though....really hurts the overall experience. It was doubly disappointing since the anime's always managed to hit the sorrowful, heartrending parts of the manga beautifully. From Robin and Chopper's flashbacks to the death of the Going Merry and then when the crew were defeated at Shabondy, the music and voice acting has always left a deeper impact.

In light of that, I demand a reanimation of Bon-chan's amazing, awe inspiring, BADASS feats in Impel Down >___< *fume* It wasn't bad or anything, but it was just...off. I mean, those were powerful moments in the manga for me.

Well, the Marineford arc isn't looking very good in the anime at the moment.

However, I would like to make a defense for the anime in that up until just after the Enies Lobby arc, I prefered it over the manga.

I have to say that I always liked the anime but recently the animation is starting to get to me. I don't understand why they can't keep the same animation they used for Enies Loby. I remember the first time I was upset with the animation was in episode 404 when they were confronted by Kizaru. In 403 it was Enies Lobby art and then in 404 they changed it to the one they used for movie 6(more or less). That killed the episode for me since I always thought Chopper looked like a stuffed animal with plastic eyes and the rest didn't look much better either. I remember reading somewhere that they did that so they can have a better motion or fluidity but if the animation suffers for it then i sure as hell don't want it.
