Discussion Art Contest Schedule and Theme Suggestion Thread

Just thinking ahead to the short stories contest, some ideas for that:

Hopelessness
Coming of Age? (reaching legal age for something, self realisation, rite of passage, etc)
Overcoming (fear, weakness)

Is it possible to have one contest spread across multiple disciplines?

What I mean is a contest that isn't necessarily drawing, or writing, or digital art, or photography. A contest that just has a theme.

For example, self portrait.

You could draw a self portrait, you could take a picture, you could paint, you could make a digital image / signature / avatar, or a wallpaper, or you could write a short story or a poem expressing who you are as a person.

The winner would be the one who managed to convey themselves the most successfully / artistically / beautifully through the medium they chose.

Is that kind of thing possible, or is it too convoluted? Basically I'm just saying a contest with one theme that any person can tackle through any medium.

The seasonal contests have different themes and some of them where you can play with different techniques.
Especially for those contests, we are open for a lot of different themes and type/categories of art
I've been thinking of a toy art/handmade sort of contest, I'm just not sure how many would participate Xd

Interesting idea. You also could use 4-koma style.

Traditionally, Yonkoma follow a structure known as Kishōtenketsu. This word is a compound formed from the following Japanese Kanji characters:

• Ki (起):The first panel forms the basis of the story; it sets the scene.
• Shō (承): The second panel develops upon the foundation of the story laid down in the first panel.
• Ten (転): The third panel is the climax, in which an unforeseen development occurs.

I just want to say that if we have this contest, I promise participation with the highest quality work I can bring. Yonkoma would definitely be the best format.

I hang around the Amateur Manga forum a lot, and I also think there's a couple of people there who would be interested, but none are that active in the forum so they might not notice the contest when it comes.

Another would be illustrate a lyric from a song, or illustrate a scene from a lyricless song. It seems more abstract, but that also challenges one as an artist.

Yep those can be pretty challenging.

Or illustrate a classical song, in an abstract painting.All those are very interesting themes to be sure.

Has there ever been a mascot competition?



Hm, moving away from visual mediums, I do also love me some written ones.


Prompts are always fun, or perhaps a genre being thrown at you, like a Noir style piece, or a 70's Horror, etc, etc.
I also find being given a random image to write a scene about to be really entertaining.

Another suggestion could be a slice of life piece that fits a theme or something fun like that.

There is a photgraphy contest coming soon, and food is already one of the suggested themes. You can vote on it when that time comes.

MH actually has a schedule that they keep for contests, so I assume the weekly art contest slots are all filled up until the Winter Art Contest
