Conditions

Both are aware of some of the others best known abilities, but largely unaware of the extent of each others powers.

Zeref has taken off with Fairy Heart with Larcade to go after Acnologia. E.N.D has followed them and many of the Fairy Tail Mages have gone after him. Irene has been left at the Guildhall, and August approaches with Brandish in tow. Irene, having heard of Brandish's betrayal, questions August as to why he was aiding a traitor. The General states that she cannot go against neither his nor the Emperor's wishes, and the two prepare to clash. Any Alvarez soldiers, and even the remaining Spriggan 12 are aware of the approaching battle and flee as fast as they can.

I can't really say for certain to be honest. Feat wise, Irene has got more going for her, and her first big spell was one of the most impressive in the entire series, but if we're talking hearsay and hype, then certainly August. He's the leader of the Spriggan 12 and he's supposedly mastered most or all types of magic. However, I feel like we've deliberately been told very little about Irene, and so I believe that she's going to be far more powerful than people think. I'm undecided as of now

August, but with extreme difficulty. They're hyped to be on par, except for the statement "August is the strongest spriggan but Irene is the strongest female spriggan". However they both have their nicknames, they both seem to have much more MP than the rest of spriggans, fearful magic, etc.

....That's called being wise....

Irene would be oneshotted by Acno faster than August would.

Acno just gave her a chance, but unlike Irene, August doesn't need that pity because he knows when to mess around and when not to.

More importantly, August knows who to mess around with and who not to.

So far we have hype, and we have only 2 feats. August's Nuke and lazer beam and Irene's Enchanted Swords and World Reconstruction Magic

If it is suddenly a fight then August wins.But if Irene has time to prepare then she wins.Irene is the only Spriggan who can defeat August.She got praised by Acnologia onscreen which no other character in Fairytail got other than Igneel and Zeref.This praise does not come easily.

This is clearly not a stomp though, aside from it has been stated in the manga that she's the strongest female spriggan. It has been also stated by Brandish that excluding Irene there is no other mage in existence who can stand up to August, therefore they're on par with each other. Though I agree with you that August wins, this is still not a stomp, it will take high difficulty for August to take her down.

Mist of what everyone is saying is wrong. Irene isn't called the strongest female she's called one of the strongest. Like August her powers excel any of the Spriggan 12. And you guys act like just bcs she was titled (in the MS) as the strongest female that'd mean August will by default be stronger that her. Just because he titled the strongest male (in MS) doesn't mean he will be stronger than the strongest female.

Feats go to Irene in a landslide.

Hype I'd say it's a toss up.

Tbh, feat-wise Irene has been way more impressive. But hype and portrayal says August wins this.

I'd take it as a tie same as @Brandish until further feats from the two of them are shown

You are right about they are the strongest ones, but you seem to be incorrect about Irene not being called the strongest female Spriggan. In the Japanese raws Brandish says:
"オーガストは最強の男なら，彼女は最強の女。。。。。。。"
"While August is called the strongest among male Spriggans, she (Irene) is called the strongest among female Spriggans........."

In some previous panels, Brandish does say "You are wrong if you say August is the only strongest. Actually there is another strongest one" so you are right about that.

Dunno but I still believe August should win this. Of course it's not stomp. Maybe high or extreme diff.

I was going off what I remembered from Crunchy's translation guess that part got mixed up with what I remembered

I'm leaning towards Irene with what she's shown but they might double KO each other in the end. Difficulty should be no less than extreme imo since Brandish says the outcome is unknown if the two decided to go at it.

Neither of them have shown an incredible amount, but we've had one change the layout of an entire country/continent being able to enchant pretty much anything while the other is incredible well-versed in magic and could have a fair few tricks of their own up their sleeve. So given this, I'm going to give this to August, purely because not only was he described as the strongest Spriggan (Yes, Irene could be a contender for that) but given his superior knowledge of magic that may even exceeds Zeref's who has been around for 400+ years, I think August would take it out high-extreme difficulty.

August has shown nothing at all so far, whereas Irene has been impressive. However i think that August is more suited to combat. I'm not saying Irene isn't good at fighting, but i feel like her magic is better for other uses. If that makes sense. :/

Though Irene has better feats, August was straight up stated to be the strongest Spriggan several times. He takes it on a high diff battle.

Irene surely gives more fear, is much more 'evil' that August. But so far we have not seen practically nothing of either, you can not consider a fight without even knowing the potential of each. Anyway, it is considered the title received by August, to be the most powerful Spriggan, that's why I consider winner in a battle versus Irene.
