Only Ara is restricted because that would kill him in the process. That would mean it would be his magical limit or all his magical power. Irene was able to cast Universe One with no problems to her magical container. Even though it's restricted to use, it shows how much MP Irene has. She could counter his attacks and wait for him to empty his container then strike.
There's a difference between enchanting a country and destroying one...

Well, then her "true form" indeed is crappy. How pathetic is it when a small portion of Dragon Slayer Magic by a little girl is enough to take that form down, while every other dragon aside of Irene showed complete resistance to Dragon Slayer Magic. If you really think that August can't do as much as damage to Dragon Irene as Wendy, then you should just.. Go.

No other magic besides Dragon Slayer Magic can damage dragons, you say? What happened to Atlas Flame again?

Even though he wasn't as powerful as he used to be, it's still proof that non-Dragon Slayer Magic can harm dragons.

Also pls don't let me bring Jellal vs. Acnologia up too.

Who?
yeah even my boy Silver one-shotted Atlas Flame yes Flame/Dragon:oooh:oooh... August is literally the strongest character this story has to offer hes in the human race strongest peak form if he cant defeat Dragons... then no one else has the right or means to defeating Dragon...

August is atleast 10x stronger than Silver...:yodawg:yodawg

Add to that she can use Dragon's Roar which most probably is Fire.So she will be able to negate Melt and add in her enchantments in her Dragon form, she can probably nullify that attack.

Though i again say Melt is not DS Magic.
nuh, i say it's ice. she will be extra weak against melt. :derp

A worthy final match up.

So it all comes down to the top 2 Spriggans.

I'd bet August vs Irene would've been a better fight than Acno vs 7 DS.

Anyway, back to the topic: initial choice would be August as per power scaling. But we have to factor Irene's dragon form.

Does the magic August copied during the previous rounds get carried over to this round? Assuming August can copy DS magic, since he fought Natsu in the previous round?

No, it's the manga situations that count. Previous tournament battles aren't canon.

Shame we've never seen Irene vs. August. Neither was said to be superior than the other, but we don't know how that was measured. Have either gone all out? Did Irene go into her dragon form before in front of the Spriggans? Did August ever show his full magic knowledge?

The way I view this one is that Irene clears the difficult hurdle of "capable of even harming August", but I'd like to recognize that August was barely hurt by Gildartz' finishing move, and Gildartz is crazy strong. So, Dragon Irene could try to crush him with her claws, though surely he'd use powerful attacks to counter and dodge. Also, his MP and hers are both vaguely vast. She's a fully realized Dragon slayer, and he's a unique existence amongst humans. I find their durability feats similar, even though he got stabbed and she got wailed on by plot-fueled Erza. Ultimately to me the deciding factor is versatility, and August is the single most versatile mage in series. For all we know, based on what we've seen, Irene's scales could be made of paper since they have no defensive feats to speak of besides her own hype. That's just a technicality, obviously she's highly durable. Also, I choose to believe that dragons can be defeated without DS magic, albeit with more difficulty. I think August has what it takes to do so. There's also the possibility that he wastes her before she goes Dragon form. Anyhoo, I vote August max-diff because you can't say she'll crush him merely because she's capable of hurting him at all. Lucy is capable, theoretically, of hurting Natsu, but being capable of doing harm against someone with hax defensive abilities is not equivalent to being able to beat them.

Perhaps an analogy would serve to illustrate the difficulty of comparing the two. Consider two tall heavily forested mountains that haven't been climbed or measured yet, with their peaks shrouded in clouds and fog. It's hard to say which one is taller than the other, and it's hard to say which one is more difficult to climb. It is widely believed that mountain A is taller and has more features than mountain B, but mountain B is said to feature really tricky and challenging paths.

This is why I can say that even if my vote goes to August, there are so many factors we don't definitively know. All I can propose in the end are interesting scenarios, with many possible outcomes.

Suppose Irene enchants a number of items and turns them into minions, would those minions' caster-like magic count as caster, or as holder? I can also imagine Irene giving enchanted items to enchanted minions so that they can bypass August's copying ability, although at this point he would just resort to the arsenal of spells that he has already copied. But in this scenario, who would end up consuming more magic power in the long run?

August learns Dragon Supremacy Magic from Future Rogue and Irene submits to the Magic Pimp, becoming his personal G. They ride off into the sunset and gets married under a canopy of love, where Father Laxus witness them take their vows. Everybody wins. :derp

In all seriousness though, August can and should triumph here. And here's why.

Skill - August has shown an unprecedented control over his ability. He learnt all moves instantaneously, just by bearing witness to them being performed, nullifies their effects on himself, and turn the volume up to eleven to hurl them back at his foes with greater intensity. The degree of mastery in his skill saw August delivered an emphatic asskicking to Jellal and Crime Sorciere despite the numerical handicap. He beat all of Crime Sorciere at their own game.

August flattened Gildarts by quickly counterattacking after completely reconstructing himself from Crash. From a technical standpoint, August has fired on all cylinders, and has an unblemished track record against all Caster magic he comes up against. Irene, on the other hand, did not display such a level of proficiency. She was, however, hoisted by her own petard when Wendy, who is vastly weaker and inexperienced, was capable of wrestling control of Irene's body with her own enchantment, and expelled Irene out of her body.

Speed - We should all be aware by now that Mashima seems adamant on portraying Jellal's top speed in Meteor as probably the highest amongst the mages. Though he wasn't able to hurt Acnologia, Jellal has shown to be able to outspeed Acnologia in some instances. To the point where he could generate sufficient velocity to push Acnologia towards the ravines of time up to a certain distance.

August, without breaking a sweat, literally and figuratively ran rings around Jellal. He dominated him, along with Crime Sorciere, who barely even touched him. Gildarts, who could anticipate August's attack, was not able to dodge with his reflexes.

The same Gildarts who has amazing agility and is deceptively swift.

Irene's speed pales in comparison. Erza and Wendy were able to land successive hits, and damaged her. Her best possible feat in her dragon form is probably the time she ascended to the sky in a single bound.

But it is ambiguous if she achieved so with natural flight. August should be faster as he had simply displayed greater consistency in this regard.

Mentality - Perhaps most crucially, why this fight should sway in August's favour is because of the attitude these two takes when it comes down to crunch time. August does not muck around and is far more decisive. When Mira was at their disposal, August finished her off in an instant to prevent any potential hindrance. In contrast, Irene intended to torture her for fun before killing her.

More often than not, Irene has a tendency to let her emotions get the better of her. She did suffer from a heavy amount of PIS during her fight with Erza and Wendy, but still she succumbed to her emotions after intially setting out to kill both Wendy and Erza. Even she herself was admittedly surprised at her own change of heart.

Yes, Ars Magia did jack all eventually. But it was foreshadowed beforehand by August himself, that he can only be 'defeated' by his own mother. And it did turn out to be the outcome, though not exactly the way we would have hoped. I don't think it is debatable that Irene is at least somewhat emotionally unstable, which leads to her judgement getting clouded.

I do feel they will break even in some aspects though. Irene broke all of Erza's bones, but August is definitely no slouch when it comes down to physical strength. Gildarts who could destroy huge landscape with a simple punch, without his magic.

And constantly besting Natsu in an exchange of strength.

The same Natsu who launched a guy with a towering physique into the skies and through the airship several hundred metres above the ground with a basic punch.

August was pinning an enraged Gildarts back for majority of their fight.

And while Irene's Master Enchantment in her dragon form was able to transcend skies and earth, August just by exerting his magical presence was effortlessly causing the earth and skies to crumble and disintegrate.

A full powered attack from Gildarts' strongest spell could only take August down a for a few seconds, but could not keep him down.

August is also a damn anomaly. A freak of nature. Considering who his parents were. Two magical prodigies, who shares the same curse from an actual deity, not the half-baked ones who roamed the earthland.

He was abandanoned by Precht, the same Precht who created Fairy Heart but did not know how to handle August. He also learnt about all of Zeref and Mavis relationship and history just because he can, despite not acknowledging them in person before. I don't think it is wise to apply conventional magical limitations to scale August and assume he cannot defeat Irene because the latter has a dragon form.

Irene is definitely not going down without giving August a tough fight though. She is extraordinarily powerful in her dragon capacity, but August phenomenal skill, intellect and competency will prove to be too much for her handle.

Ultimately, both August and Irene were characters who required the author to save the protagonists through contrived plot devices and engineering their own death because Mashima wrote himself into a corner. Here I am glad they are in the finals, even if I did not have the time to participate in the semis'. Either of them winning will be well deserved. May the bestmore popular combatant wins. :hi

Early someone said that if Lucy sacrifices one of her keys in battle then in next battle she can't use that key :3c So why August can't keep his preview fights purchase? :gwah

Also August was stated as king of all magic, so he probably may know almost all magic in the world. I know that he just copies others magic but he is older 100 years, he may know many type of magic.

And AM is not suicide spell. It is not more than Fairy Low just with different ability. And while mage has enough magic power to do that, it is not suicide.
Makarov defeated almost million people with S level MP and still alive.

If you restricted AM, so it must been restricted like one spell, not in suicide list.

The fastest thing shown in the verse is Deus Sema, and Irene can react to that so speed favors the Dragon still. Irene undoubtedly has higher stats then August. I don't think that can be debated. Her magical power just in human form is on the same level as August, but her Dragon form amps her MP to ridiculous level so she is above him in that as well. I don't see anyway August can put her down. Her moveset is also way better imo.

Im in team Irene, my dear friend :nuts
I just can argue on both side if I have what to say:imslow
Yeah, I think he can kill Irene with a single spell. Most simple way - timestop and laser beam. But I really choose Irene for some reason

Well I'm not gonna argue much anymore considering we'll never see the light in each others arguments however I disagree with some points here and have a few of my own points as well.

Deus sema is fast but brittle. Crash is enough to counter.
Irene has both good reaction feats and terrible ones(PiS heavily influenced).
We know Irene and August were compared( we don't know if the other Spriggs had knowledge of dragon form or not, we can only assume). We don't know who has higher MP. We can only assume, again. August's MP was more hyped though(visibly affecting the atmosphere).

But August needs the love. He can kill her in more ways she could kill him. That's a huge boon. Don't you want to pick the most complete, versatile wizard to represent the community in the FT tournament 2017?:oh

Oh I don't think one Deus Sema would kill August (she'd have to spam that move to do effective damage). I was only mentioning the speed of Deus Sema as it's the fastest thing we have seen in the manga.

Didn't seem that Brandish knew about Irene being a Dragon as Brandish always referenced Irene as a human. Irene being a Dragon seems to be on the down low. So if Irene's human form is on the same caliber as August then her Dragon form which boosts her magic exponentially should be stronger than his.

Irene's magic affected the entirety of Fiore so I don't think affecting the atmosphere is that special.

True enough man. Yet we font have enough confirmation to write out how much Brandish knows. I mean if she'd have known who August really was(zeref's son) her claim might've changed.

We 'll August was planning on taking down Fiore with him. Disintegrating everything. Mavis herself couldn't believe a mage coulld be capable of using ars magia (evidently requiring an unearthly amount of MP ).

Deus Sema is fast, don't get me wrong, but fastest thing in the verse? Maybe when it was in space, but it slowed done considerably when it hit the atmosphere. To the point that not only could fodder see it, but an Erza with every bone in her body broken could get into the air and slash it.
I'm not really seeing how a guy like August (in Meteor) is slower than Deus Sema when Jellal was blitzing Dragon!Acnologia in it. This being said, I'm not saying Irene couldn't catch August off-guard with Deus Sema, since (unlike Erza) if he tries to destroy it he'll be having to deal with other attacks from Irene.

People saying that the narrative suggests that Irene' s dragon form was unknown to the spriggans and, by extension, suggests that Irene should be stronger, also have to take into account the other things the narrative implied. You can't take into account the allusions from one side solely.

Narrative also implied and explicitly stated August to have mastery over all caster magic. The narrative gave more hype and feats to what August's MP was capable of. The narrative suggested him to be the strongest of the 12 shield.

Not to mention, none of the spriggan knew of his connection to Zeref and Mavis.
The other spriggans always held him in high regard, but information like that (being related to the emperor, a child prodigy of magic and a medium of infinite magic) certainly can tip the power level weighing scales that the other spriggans may have.

If they didn't know of Irene's dragon form , then they certainly had no clue of August's connection to zeref and Mavis. That would have amped him up as well.

They thought it was a shooting star. We can "see" a shooting star but that doesn't mean we're reacting to it. Deus Sema covered the largest distance in the shortest amount of time which makes it the fastest thing in the manga. Ofc Acno is faster, but his speed would be scaled off that meteor for the fastest quantifiable speed in the manga. Also the Meteor wouldn't slow down due to Irene forcing it down with her magic, the size of the meteor, and the meteor was still vaporizing from the velocity in the atmosphere.

Jellal nor August are moving at speeds that allow them to move multiple planets worth of distance in seconds. Meteor is not that fast. Irene has already outclassed Jellal's best spell. I don't see why she couldn't enchant herself with double stats or use Deus Meteor. Either way her reaction feats outclass August's speed so Meteor wouldn't really be as effective as people are making it out to be.
