Re: The NBA Thread

Who would of thought that my Celtics would be at 500 this time of year and that the Heat wouldn't be the best team in the east :headscratch
Were you expecting a mark below .500 for the Cs :oh
Because you couldn't possibly expect them to top the standings, unless you wear Tommy glasses :zomg

The real breakout has been happening in the Oakland so far. Golden State has won 11 road games and matched their total wins at road for the last season already.

Well, obviously I wasn't expecting them to be at the top of the standings. However, I did not think for one second they would be struggling to just break even...

In other news I'm still slightly shocked Avery got fired...

A team that lacks size cannot hope to continuously win interior battles in the paint, so, things are always going to be tough.
As a much more talent-loaded team than the Celtics, the Nets were expected to be better, although I knew there was going to be some growing pains, too.
Kind of an overreaction, in my opinion.

It is. However, I believe the relationships in the locker room between Avery and the players (mainly Deron) were slowly deteriorating over time. I think that's one of the main reasons he got fired outside of their current record. I don't believe Avery is a bad coach. Until this off season the Nets didn't have the player personnel to compete with the best in the east. He didn't really get the "fair shake" as they call it.

The Celtics never win the interior battles. They get pushed around in the paint, fail to grab any boards, and prevent second chance points. However, they always found a way to win despite their chronic problems.

Re: The NBA Thread

Avery Johnson just isn't a good coach. He owe his last and the next job to Dirk, that much is simple
anyway, I didn't expect much from the Nets neither.
Deron is playing bad and with a bad attitude for almost 3 yeras now.
Gerald Wallace always relied on his athleticism and now he's not that young anymore
Lopez and Humphries must be the worst help defense bigs on the NBA... they just don't mesh well

I don't like them very much

And finally a Lakers game where Kobe played on the low thirties... if what D'Antoni keeps playing him on the 40s, this team will have no legs on the playoffs

Realistically speaking, they won't need the legs since a deep run is looking far away at the moment. All top-tier seeds are playing better basketball than the Lakers. It will at least be fun if they get swept by the Clippers in the play-offs. I would definitely enjoy such a scenario.

^It will no longer be called Laker town if that happens :lmao I see the Clippers going to the conference finals this year IF they can remain healthy.

It's always excuses with Kobe. This guy never blames himself whenever the Lakers struggle mightily.

Re: The NBA Thread

If I averaged 30.3 ppg on 47% shooting and we were below .500, I would slap them in the face. Since he doesn't do that, Kobe is a nice guy.
Or maybe in the locker room..

Re: The NBA Thread

but he's not wrong, the team has no legs to play proper defense, himself included. The youngster, the almighty D12 is moving like a old man since his surgery.

Re: The NBA Thread

The bigger news revolves around Royce White as of now. The guy refused to go down the D-League, and got suspended.
There is a chance that he will never play in an NBA game, which would be said, since he was said to be a versatile player in college and the expectations from him were rather high.

Re: The NBA Thread

Well, I was talking about faint possibility the Lakers would turn back into title contenders as the season progressed, and Howard would play a vital role in helping them get there :hurr. However, I'm just talking out of my ass :teehee

Re: The NBA Thread

They could turn the tides at some point, but I'm not expecting them to become a real contender in the foreseeable future.
Unless they successfully trade away Gasol and land someone good as a replacement, which is a weak possibility.

Meanwhile, Celtics improved to 3-1 since Bradley's return by defeating the Knicks at MSG without suspended Rondo. I wonder if it's really just Bradley. The other players also seemingly play more attention to defense from what I've seen. Might be a turning point for the season.

Re: The NBA Thread

Sad to see Sacramento losing the NBA, though.
Kevin Johnson put a lot of work to prevent this scenario, but in the end, Maloofs didn't care about what happened to the city.
On a positive note, of course, it was tough to see Seattle losing the Supersonics back then. Nice to see them return.

Re: The NBA Thread

I'd rather see a Seattle team than a Sacramento team. I used to enjoy watching them play back in the day when I wasn't really a fan of any team. In other news the Celtics extended their win streak to 4 :woo

Carmelo is banned for one game for his confrontation with KG after the Celtics Monday night win. I swear the NBA will look for any excuse to punish a player nowadays.
