Anime Berserk (2016)

It's weird seeing so many people from the TG thread here, although, I guess it makes sense.

Anyways, Berserk (2016) so far isn't great, but I found it interesting. The first 2 eps weren't done very well, but it was still different enough from the norm for it to catch my interest and for me to consider it worth watching. Plus, it was the last push I needed to finally start the manga. I think I'm going to start the manga from the beginning or maybe the movies and then to the manga, but either way, I'm definitely going to finish this (kinda shit) adaptation. I'm not sure I'd be willing to watch it after reading those parts of the manga anyhow.

Side note: Now that I think about it, it's even weirder how similar Tokyo Ghoul's situation was to Berserk's.. both in how I got into the series and how the animes turned out in general (a lot of skips, odd pacing, "questionable" animation, and an surprisingly good OST).

The original anime and movies are better than the new anime. Tho the new anime is supposed to be after the original anime and movies. And lol I read berserk waaaaaayyy before tokyo ghoul was even created so not that weird I just hadn't thought to go into other threads. Pretty sure WithYouInSpirit hasn't even started the manga but wants to.

Heads up: berserk (manga) makes tokyo ghoul seem like if barney and friends was a manga. Harmless by comparison. (Better or worse overall depends on one's personal opinion but definitely more adult)

Check out Forces and Sign (ost's) for berserk. Imo epic as hell. You can also become a fellow hater/lover of penpal's op for the original anime like the majority of berserk fans who have heard the song xD it's hella funny (full of engrish)

The animation looks like the animation from a game which makes me curious as to how the actual Berserk game looked, but I don't feel like looking for it so..

Anyhow, I'm ok with it. Obviously, could be better though.

It..... it got worse... After the first 2 episodes I thought it was ok JUST OK, but now it's just filth. My expectations weren't even above average and yet they still found a way to go lower.

On the bright side, started the manga and I love it. Btw though, fucking and then literally blowing the head off a demon with a cannon arm is a hell of a way to start. Also, even after just like 28 pages and I could already see a fuck ton of stuff that the adaption decided to go back and fuck up for.. some reason.

2nd bright side, at least we were graced with the presence of Rape Horse's lesser known cousin, Lick Donkey.

No offense to the TG fans, but nothing compares to Berserk in terms of violence and fucked up stuff. So I find it pretty funny how some consider TG or AoT as seinen. Of course not all seinens are like Berserk, but you can generally have some more mature content, and gore even in Vagabond or Shigurui.

In conclusion read Berserk, if you can give Vagabond a try too since I consider it to be just slightly behind Berserk. But both are different reads, and there's no real basis for a comparison between the two, other than the fact that they're both seinens and both feature some amazing art.

Of course not all seinens are like Berserk, but you can generally have some more mature content, and gore even in Vagabond or Shigurui.

Oh no. I 100% agree with you. I love TG, but Berserk is definitely on another level when it comes to violence and maturity. To me, TG is like caught in the middle between shounen and seinen, but honestly all that doesn't matter much to me. "Seinen" or not, a good series is a good series and both TG and Berserk are some great mangas. Now, if the animes could maybe just GET THEIR FUCKING SHIT TOGETHER and perhaps get an actual budget instead of the collective pocket change of all the Pierrot interns... that'd be lovely too.

I've heard Vagabond was pretty good, but I honestly don't know much about it at all. I guess I'll give that a go when I'm caught up with Berserk.

They kept the horse rape at least. I can't believe that in a seinen adaptation even they can't draw nipples despite what they show already, they have no problem showing Griffith raping Casca in the OP and in some flashbacks(I hate that BTW).

They explained that Guts is aiming to kill the Apostles and the God Hand but with all these flashbacks of the Golden Age they could have done it better. They didn't even explain why he has a Behelit.

That's a relief, since I thought I was the only one who thought that. Maybe it has more to do with the magazine it's published in. These days some things are labeled seinen when they're not really that.Yeah no hope of fixing stuff, it's too late now anyway. The only hope is have some other studio like Madhouse or David productions take on the Berserk franchise and redo the adaptation from chapter 1 in the manga, but they don't seem to be interested in Berserk atm.

Yeah it is generally thought to be second only to Berserk, but they're very different. Vagabond is more philosophical, but it seems the author suffers from the same disease as Miura, he's constantly on hiatus. But the story is very engaging, I love Musashi the main character and the art is simply gorgeous and Inoue uses very traditional techniques, he actually uses calligraphy brushes. But yeah I definitely recommand it.

Well... the anime should be either 3D or hand drawn only... and yet it has both... 2.5D is a half-assed bitch. Why can't it be seinen and not seinen as well seeing as how the whole thing is already butchered? Lol

Hardly,only very old stuff like Violence Jack and Devilman feature the same kind of fucked up scenes. Gore itself isn't that unique, it's the other more weird stuff that's more rare these days.What can I say I do love my fucked up manga.
