If SnK transfer to WSM, then BSM will die.
No it won't. You are incorrectly presuming Betsumag is built around megahits. Stop talking about all manga like they are from Jump. It's wrong, the rest of the industry does not work like that. This obsession with bestsellers became tiresome years ago. Shingeki was an unexpected, sleeper hit, rejected by two previous publishers, that did not start selling in quantity until volume three, over a year after the magazine began publication. Current sales were not even reached until 2013, several years after Shingeki first became a hit. Betsumag can function without a major hit in the same way that Shounen Sirius and Magazine Special can. Not to mention the countless other magazines, from all the various publishers, in all demographics, constituting the vast majority of manga publications, that have never produced substantial bestsellers.

So SnK was supposed to be transferred to WSM according to the policy?
There is no policy.

Well, Shingeki is an exception because the popularity increasing so quick(2011)
I believe if Shingeki just start serialized not too long, gian slow popularity and author ready for weekly schedule. then it has possibility it would transferred.
I can't think any single legit reason why Kamisama should move to WSM other than business decision. and I don't know if Koe no Katachi, which originally published one-shot in Bessatsu but become famous after published in WSM can count it as Bessatsu's vetaran or not.

Maybe, the editors think it would be better for those series to serialize in WSM than BSM.

Popularity did not increase quickly. Shingeki debuted in the first issue of Betsumag, in September 2009. It became a hit in December 2010, over a year after chapter one was published. Katachi did not become famous after moving. The one shot was notoriously rejected by other publishers due to the controversial nature of the story. There is no reason to believe that any manga have been transfered to the weekly magazine based on sales, or popularity metrics. How many serialized (not one shots) manga have even been moved from Betsumag to Shomag?

Better how? Kamisama doesn't sell any better in Shomag. It already earned a live action adaption. The 4koma probably is not expected to sell wherever it's serialized. It's a 4koma.

No. I mean shingeki rising from unknown manga to popular so quick. I'm not count from its first chapter, I count it from when it still unknown(it's different) look at July 2010 Shingeki sales was not impressive at all. that mean its start gain popularity after that. and in Dec Shingeki went from 30k to 180k tank sale. just 5 months(but I believe it actually less than that) sale was increasing around 6 times, I would say it quick

About Koe no Katachi I agree with @Kaizou 10. editor want it public and it's a reason. but don't change the fact that Koe no Katachi original was in Bessatsu and become famous just because of WSM has larger audience.

Kamisama part 1 probably as popular as Shingeki but no single volume manage in top 50 oricon chart. why? most possibly is Bessatsu don't have big audience enough to promote this series. you may think editor just hype it. but I don't think so. as for your last question, I think they're no worthy series to transferred for.

I'm not too sure about indicating Kamisama as popular as SnK. If Kamisama wasn't popular due to lack of promotion, then isn't it should be popular now since it moved to WSM?

I believe it because Bessatsu's questionnaire made editor believe that(I think because of most Shingeki fan didn't buy bessatsu back then) but still, having good result in questionnaire don't mean it sell well. just mean it had potential. but yeah Kamisama part 2 is more popular than part 1 was and even helped part 1 sales. I guess editor chosen a right choice.

How is over a year quick? What does that have to do with moving to another magazine, anyway?

Japanese readers don't care very much about magazine. That's not how they find manga. Japan also has the internet, TV, libraries, radio, conventions, anime adaptions, drama adaptions, and critics, all of which are more effective means of promoting manga. International fandom has created a mythology about magazines that does not exist in Japan. Kodansha's two best selling manga (by volume) are both serialized in low circulation magazines. Shingeki in Betsumag and St. Young Men in Morning Two. Kodansha has historically had a great deal of success developing bestsellers of varying degree in medium and low circulation magazines. It would be almost wholly irrational to think that after decades of success promoting manga in lower circulation magazines, that they would suddenly change course for one, and only one, specific one shot.

Wanna buy a bridge? I have one in Brooklyn. It's for sale, if you want it.

Most Shingeki fans still don't buy Betsumag. The most recent published circulation was 60,000 copies per month. That is not how many copies sold, but how many copies printed.

Shomag editors don't have the right to poach manga from other magazines. That would be a disaster, undermining Kodansha's other publications. Mangaka are under contract, they have obligations to the magazine they are in. Shomag can't take what they want, when they want. The other magazines own the rights to their titles. We don't even know if Shomag approached the mangaka of Iutoori. When their contract expired, they could have approached Shomag about moving serialization. There is no way of knowing who approached who, or under what circumstances the move was made. It certainly seems very doubtful that popularity, or potential played any role in the move. Iutoori was not popular when it moved. Kodansha has many other shounen magazines, many of which have titles with as much, or more, potential than Iutoori. Why Iutoori instead of Kaibutsu Oujo, Pumpkin Scissors, Noragami, Yozakura Quratet, or any of the many other titles from Magazine Special, Monthly Shounen Magazine, Shounen Sirius that have shown potential? Iutoori is not the first monthly Kodansha shounen with commercial potential. Why, of the thousands of manga Kodansha publishes, did they select this one, specific, horror manga? Maybe it might not be a matter of popularity at all. What if it was just a good mutual fit. The mangaka of Iutoori wanted to switch to weekly serialization, while the editors of Shomag thought that Iutoori filled a void in style, tone, or genre. Iutoori's contract with Betsumag expired, one of the parties approached the other, and a deal was struck. Why must everything be about sales and popularity?

Sales of Iutoori still are not exactly high, lower than 100,000 before they fall off the charts.

You still said it's over a year? I think I already point out I'm not count at it's debut. that why I said it quick, or fast(if you think quick is not correct word)

Shingeki and Saint Young Men is a fluke. you shouldn't wait miracle like that.
being published in larger magazine helped sales, otherwise you don't see (almost) every manga in WSJ sale above 100k

Still better than couldn't even in top 50 every volumes.

How are they a fluke? Kodansha has had major hits from plenty of their small and medium circulation magazines. Uchuu Kyoudai also comes from a magazine with lower circulation then Shomag, though considerably higher than Betsumag and Morning Two. Even if they are not bestsellers, many manga from smaller publications get anime. They have had as many hits, and as many anime adaptions from Morning, Evening, Afternoon, Good! Afternoon, Morning Two, Bestumag, Shounen Sirius, Magazine Special, Dessert, Betsufuri, even defunct magazines like Uppers and Magazine Z have produced popular manga, anime adaptions, and titles licensed internationally. Kodansha only has three magazines with circulation over 500,000 copies; Young Magazine, Monthly Shounen Magazine, and Weekly Shounen Magazine. The majority of Kodnasha's bestsellers, adaptions, and licensed titles come from elsewhere.

WSJ is built for blockbusters. They cancel anything that isn't popular. Jump is not analogous to other magazines. Reality is that magazine sales have been dropping steadily for years. Shounen Magazines circulation has been falling steadily for at least five years. There is a magazine circulation thread in this sub-forum. It's a matter of common knowledge that magazines hold little meaning in Japan. This has been a talking point for a long time.

So what a reason why Kamisama was move if is not because of popularity?
Who knows? The information necessary to understand their decision was not made publicly available. It's not possible to understand everything by pure thought, we're limited by our almost total lack of factual information about the subject. Iutoori did not chart at all when it was in Betsumag. There are plenty of other manga with as much sales potential, or more, in any of Kodansha's numerous medium to low circulation magazines. Kodansha has consistently had success marketing manga from smaller magazines, so that is not an issue. There is no reason to believe that this one individual, low selling title was singled out above any of a number of other. As I said, it was probably a matter of mutual interest. Iutoori fit a genre niche Shomag wanted filled, the mangaka wanted to move to a weekly magazine, and the switch was contractual viable for both parties. We probably will never know the real reason, but popularity seems the least likely reason.

Still better than couldn't even in top 50 every volumes.
That's quite a low bar to set. Such a small boost also could also have something to do with the upcoming movie by a high profile, controversial director. Miike Takashi (Ichi the Killer) is pretty famous. Attaching his name to Iutoori's movie generated more publicity than a shounen manga anthology ever could.

You know a lot of mangaka don't actually plot out how their manga will go right from the beginning right? Some wait to see how popular it is and depending on that they chose a particular direction.

A good example would be while not in BSM in WSJ, with World Trigger by Ashihara Daisuke. The editor actually had an interview where he revealed the mangaka hadn't planned how the manga would go after the first 13 chapters. He only decided on what to do after the manga picked up some popularity.

Wonder if the first printing will ever reach 4 million copies...
Looks like the person writing the article felt the same... Second largest first printing after One Piece 67...
