Re: The best of 2008

Oricon's polls are generally not something most people would consider to be all that reliable, if I'm correctly remembering comments I heard elsewhere on their polls. Note how none of the data relating to the poll's sample size and other statistics were released.

(For the record, Bloody Monday just had a decently successful drama last season; it just finished airing a few weeks ago.)

Re: The best of 2008

Half of the people on their are bawling their eyes out at One Piece's placements. They're all RAGING!!!

Anyways I'm going to have to start reading Nana. I keep seeing it all over the place and I'm curious about it.

And oh look Naruto is No.1 most intrested in America I'm not surprised.

Germany though...weird. Any germans care to clue me in?

Yeah, I know. I always find it funny when people realize that One Piece is the top selling/most favorite (only if that poll is somewhat accurate) manga currently in Japan. For some reason it seems to seriously offend people. I've never understood that.

Yeah, that's no surprise. Especially the way whoever's licensing it has sped up production. The only somewhat surprise on the U.S. list, imo, is Berserk. Didn't realize it was so popular here.

Also, lol at Germany's list.

One last thing, that fanart of Hancock . It's also the first one I've seen.

Germany's list is weird. i know that we have many "how to draw" manga, but that they are so popular. still weird o_o

Re: The best of 2008

Well, I don't know what their sources are, but it seems to be unrealistic.

As you can see Carlsen's own list has "Manga Love Story(=Futari H)" at place 9! and it's 2nd at the Sankaku-List, so it doesnt make much sense. Then again it's only April-June, so...

However what I know is that the two manga publishers who created the "Top 15 (German Manga Top 15 since July 2001)" charts stopped doing so after February 2008. The reason was that the GfK was supposed to do that know. Sadly it seems they have yet to start publishing a new monthly top 15 list.

Carlsen's Bestseller for 2008:
1. Naruto
2. One Piece
3. Vampire Knight
4. DAISUKI
5. Naruto - Unschuldiges Herz, blutroter Dämon (Nippon Novel)
6. Junjo Romantica
7. Cheeky Vampire
8. Pirat gesucht!
9. Manga Love Story
10. Ludwig Revolution
11. Fesseln des Verrats
12. Love Mode
13. Neon Genesis Evangelion
14. Fruits Basket
15. Ab sofort Dämonenkönig! (Nippon Novel)
16. CHIBI - Blood Hound Special
17. Only The Ring Finger Knows (Nippon Novel)
18. Crown
19. Rin!
20. Special A
21. Black Cat
22. Charming Junkie
23. Personal Paradise
24. Shaman King
25. Love Hustler

I am curious to know which manga people think has been the best in 2009? By that I don't mean which one is your favorite, but which has been more interesting in this past year.

For example while I like Naruto I think the manga has been a bummer for most of the year and the same with Bleach (who have in my opinion only recently started to get interesting) so they won't get my vote.

I don't have great knowledge of good titles of manga (especially for anything not shonen), so if you feel like a series should be worth inserting in the poll please mention below (although make sure it's popular enough to get some votes <.<).

If you feel like it, please do state the reason why you voted for the one you voted for!

[Akiyama]

It's Liar Game for me, I started reading this series in March and it has evolved into an amazing series this year. With every volume it sells in Japan it gets more popular. It even aired the 2nd season of a J-drama a month ago and had a movie announcement. I have a feeling that it will end next year but this year has been great. I'm still waiting on 20 chapters to get scaned but I know they will be great.

[Drmke]

This is kind of tough. All the above series (the ones I read anyway) have been generally good and have had some great moments, but I think as far as best consistent performance this year, I'm gonna give it to Nurarihyon no Mago. This year the manga really showed how great it is. And I'm sure it will be around for many more years to come.

Had to vote for Vagabond. Inoue was particularly productive in 2009 and the focus shifted more to Musashi the man rather than Musashi the samurai. Most of the chapters this year, even when some sword play was involved, delved into the philosophy and psychology of strength and violence, not the physical display.

[shaheer]

voted for Berserk , well considering me i guess it was expected from me , Berserk is tooooo epic and superb, i wish i could vote second time for vagabond as well

[Black Lagoon]

One Piece by far, many secrets have been revealed, big shots fighting, the main characters missing ...

In 2009 for me the best manga is One Piece ,
This arc ( Ace execution ,war) revelated us many big things like :Gold Roger father of Ace, and so luffy is not the "real" brother of Ace, the power of some caracters (Akainu,Whitebeard and co ).The fights are so good , it's wonderful to see some caracters fights.
Despite the abscence of the strawhats , the manga is still funny and good.
I hope the same for 2010 , and maybe better !
So thanks Mr.Oda

The best?

…where?, …where?, …where?, and Akaboshi?

I vote for “Other”…

I vote for “AKABOSHI”!!!

…because is very, very entertaining…

Code:Breaker.
I really love it.

But I was considering voting HxH, with one chapter of epicness.

[Crude]

I'm not sure... Maybe Bakuman, Psyren and One Piece? Probably Bakuman since it's always consistently good.

voted for One Piece!! I really love the series!

I have to agree with Aki. Liar Game has been amazingly interesting and awesome during 2009. When you think the story can’t get any better, KS-sensei surprises his readers and manages to write/create an arc more incredible and great than the previous one. The more I read Liar Game in 2009, the more I liked it!

Another series that I think was awesome in the past year is Full Metal Alchemist. Hiromu-sensei hasn’t let her story become boring and dull, in fact, she has done just the opposite. The FMA chapters of 2009 have been full of excitement, drama, suspense, action; they have been fantastically brilliant!

For all the reason explained above, Liar Game and FMA have been the best of 2009 for me.

[Riku]

Well, it has been one heck of an year in OP. Just spectacular events and long foreshadowed things finally happening, and still being freash and entertaining. The series just keeps getting better year after year. ODa is pure genious.

Also Bakuman finally started rolling, and has been epic. In my opinion even beats Death Note. And Beelzebub has been outrageous and funny. Just come on, devilbaby almost flooding the world with his pee. I wonder if there ever has been such humor in Jump.

And I also felt like naming HxH, just based on the one chapter of epicness right before the new year.
