Ch. 79: Behind the Mask
Yami: The mask, can you take it off?
William: I have not shown my face to many people…
Yami: What? Is it ugly? I absolutely won’t laugh, ha ha ha.
William: I know that you suspect me of being part of WNE.
Yami: Light magic and Yggdrassil magic, they’re completely different… but the physique, voice and above all the presence… but
William*I am not sure about this one… but it’s something like this*: I met you about 10 years ago, fighting together occasionally on the battlefield, becoming a captain *Nozel is also mentioned here for some reason*

Yami watches William take off his mask, his face is shown to be burnt from his nose upwards, part of his forehead has even worse burn scars.

Yami: That’s a ridiculous scar, did you get it on the battlefield?
William: No… When I was born, I was called the cursed child…This mark will not even heal with magic, I was feared by the humans I guess… a noble welcomed me into their family *Something about not being the heir?* I received terrible abuse day-by-day by the wife in my childhood, it was hell.
Yami: It must’ve been hard(??)
William: But meanwhile, I met Julius - like that person who did not care about my appearance (the noble who took him in), he only saw my power

[Flashback]

William shown as a child, near trees using his magic

Julius: Yggdrassil magic!? Such majestic and solemn magic you can do! Amazing!! More than anything, your kind - trying to protect all, but your magic is wonderful! Do you want to enter the magic knights?

William looks up at Julius in surprise: But… this face of mine…
Julius: Eh? But you don’t have to worry about that… Well - I’ll give you this mask!
William: This is… not a very smart idea.
Julius is shocked: Eh?

[Flashback END]

Yami: (Not really sure, but Yami thinks that maybe it was an accidental resemblance, but he still thinks Licht and William’s appearance is similar and he apologises to William)
William: No… to speak the truth - I’m glad you could look at me. Thank you Yami
Yami: So…
“Captain Vangeance! Diamond has began to withdraw!”

*I left out a bit - but I am pretty sure this is the important stuff, rest of the chapter shows Yuno, Rangils and Asta + co. then the chapter ends with Mars in a room with a few of the Diamond Generals. (Counting the people there, Mars is not a General, unless the silhouetted man is the SE equivalent.*

This could be wrong in quite a few areas, but I guess this about right? Sorry if it's wrong. T.T

Well It could have went two ways, William takes off the mask and is revealed to be Licht and he briefly battles Yami again. Or it was so obvious he was that turned out he wasn't, I gotta say I do like the latter. William's backstory seems humbling, so its just his squad that are douchebags cause they're all powerful do to higher birth. We could still get a swerve later on and he's still Licht, maybe he's working with Licht. I mean he was taken in and abused by nobles, and Licht did seem interested in Gauche who was mistreated by nobles despite being one. Maybe there's something more to that, and possibly could be connected to William still.

And about the anime visual, the colors look better now that its clearer, but Yuno still looks a bit ridiculous imo, hopefully since it's just an OVA, when we get an eventual anime series he'll look more like himself. Asta looks okay to me though.

Yeah so far Yami is the only one who has. Picking people to join his order regardless of talent, looks, personality, or status. Just like Julius did with him and William.

still not convinced willaim is telling the truth otherwise the sorcery emperor is definitely messed up and weird and yami hasn't thought about that guy yet because one he really is strong and two he's always been the nicest most friendliest guy taking anyone in regardless of caste, power, etc... so it's possible he is the evil dude plus he runs around out of the office a whole bunch of times

Yami uses his ki to tell whether or not William is lying; which he isn't. His scar is real and not magic; based on the fact Yami feels no magic from it either.

So we learn that Ki can be used in this way too; I think it's pretty nifty.

So yes; based off this. I do believe William is telling the truth - because I doubt Yami would be okay with him otherwise.

But yeah - I have started to get a little suspicious of Julius for some reason now...

Licht was too obvious, Julius is suspicious, but then there's still Liar of the Third Eye. He infiltrated the Magic Knights as someone, maybe even William, but we don't know for sure who.

I actually could see the story heading a coup route. Liar from the inside drops the Kingdom's defenses, kills the King or something. If Julius really is evil maybe it'll be him who kills then king he's supposed to protect. The White Night Eye occupy the Clover Kingdom, Asta and whatever allies that are left end up having to fight to take back control of the kingdom. Well its just something I'd personally like to see, but I have no idea where the story is gonna go next.

We still need to learn why he wasn't present at the ceremony and why he was late for the meeting. The first spoiler to come out was that Licht and William were brothers... that would explain the similar physique, voice and presense Yami gets from him. At first I thought maybe the injury was from the massacre - but it was said to be there from birth... maybe him and Licht are twins and it happened in the womb or during birth? Lol... what am I even saying. :L

hmm interesting though julius could be evil because he's been very open minded and compared to willaim he runs around looking for magic so it's possible he's evil plus he has enough strings to keep things moving even know a battle on a border exists and both willaim and yami are here being occupied wasting time and energy while julius is nowhere to be seen and who knows what he's doing

My memory escapes me right now, but was it ever revealed who attacked Fuego? I know eventually the Captains outed one of the other Captains as a mole or something, but I wasn't sure if we ever truly found out who Fuego recognized that so gravely wounded him.

Back when Licht and Yami fought - Licht openly admitted he was the one who did. I am assuming either Fuego recognised Licht back from before the massacre (considering both Licht's clan and people of Clover seemed to somehow interact with one another) or like Yami; he thought Licht was William.

It should cover... ch.63-71. Correct me if I am wrong. Charmy's grimoire is the pattern in the background, so it looks like she'll be on vol.9's cover. (I thought Finral was blonde...)

Also, for those who don't know - Jaiminisbox's site is down, that is why the chapter isn't out yet. Netabare has also changed their text a bit since I posted the spoilers, so the bit about William's part is kind of wrong. (Just about how he is a noble, everything else should be about right)

Spoiler: Thoughts

So we have the moment we all know about; Yami getting William to show his face. (The part about Nozel cracked me up, I can only imagine how annoyed he was when they became captains) William is an illegitimate child of a 'certain noble'... I wonder if that is something important. I also glad to see that even William thinks his mask is 'tacky'. (I am sorry... but I sense this ship becoming a thing)

I'm glad Yuno has steps to his goal as emperor; he knows that he must achieve certain things before he reaches his main goal. So far... Asta hasn't actually mentioned anything about being captain. Has he actually thought about it properly?So far; anyone with a brain would choose Yuno over Asta any day. But yes; Yuno keep that attitude towards Rangils (WHERE ARE MY WILLIAM AND YUNO INTERACTIONS?!)

But looks like Mars is a general now; I believe that's the end of this arc. We won't be seeing Mars for a while (I hope) we need to see what happens after this attack; like how Clover reacts to such things and maybe... the King finally making an appearance??

He was... I wonder why he changed it. Because there has been 2 times he was coloured blonde, but now he's suddenly got brown hair... I'm just going to have to get used to it now.

It's really getting annoying that these Knights with noble origins keeps babbling about superiority just because of their family status. Aren't they listening to Sorcery Emperor well enough? He said that it's all about results and nothing more. Results, results, results.

However, these idiots are probably all deaf since they still keep on insisting on Status, status, status...

Better/more mana means they can do more things and thus produce more results. I doubt Clover has had many commoner Sorcery Emperor's, if they've had any at all. I believe that's why they look down on others too, because the just generally expect to be much better then commoners because of this... A great example is the fact that (as we know of) only 3 of the captains are not of noble birth; William was an illegitimate child - so whether that counts just means that 2 of the 9 captains are not nobles and even then - Yami and Jack were treated the same by Nozel as any other commoner.

- Magic Emperor sends Asta to get his arms fixed by an old man (I am not sure about his name) He uses water magic to heal his wounds; he goes to tell Asta something, but it's cut off and we see Finral by the door looking worried.
- Black Bull (Yami, Magna, Luck ,Charmy, Finral, Noelle (Yay ~ Missed her), Asta and Vanessa) are shown having a BBQ
- Asta can't use his hands so he uses his feet to eat his food. (Shivers; that's nasty)
- Finral informs the others that the old man told Asta that because the injury was caused by ancient magic (Vetto's demonic magic), he can't heal it. We get the reactions of the Black Bull members.
- Asta is shown sitting on a rock, thinking about when he got his grimoire and when he fought Mars. Asta appears to be shaking; but he just yells about something (sorry, I don't know what he's shouting about...)
- The BB members are shown watching from a distance and I believe Vanessa has an idea on how he can get his arms healed; not too sure - but I am just assuming this is what she means.

I think she mentions something about a country? So I expect maybe some world building coming soon - her home looks rather shady too, so if this is where she was referring to; I wouldn't be surprised if there is something similar to 'dark arts' there. (Lol, now all I am thinking of is HP)
