Shounen Bleach by Tite Kubo

Oh shit. The pre-OP intro on episode 7 of blood war has details that the manga DID NOT INCLUDE. I won't say what it is (do spoilers really apply here anymore?) but it gives me hope that Kubo's helping to revise the plot to a more satisfying story.

Let's start with "why the bloody hell don't hollowified shinigami (vizards) feature more in the plot"? If the mere reiatsu of hollows is deadly poison to quincies, how the hell was this not something that factored heavily?

Overall the new series is quite good. Seeing Kenpachi vs Unohana was fan-freaking-tastic. Very satisfying. The manga didn't actually...show...or explain...Unohana's bankai except a single image of it kind of turning into blood when bankai was invoked. The anime was kind enough to actually show it in action. Funny enough there was no dialogue to this effect, but the animation is self-explanatory.

I think with some of the other stuff, the anime's omitting small bits of dialogue here and there which added nuance to the plot - for example, when Mayuri explained to Ichigo how damage to bankai is permanent - that conversation omitted details about Ikkaku's bankai getting damaged by the Arrancar and Renji's bankai missing the segments destroyed by Byakuya and another Arrancar, and how Komamura's bankai can recover from damage but only because it's linked to Komamura's health, etc.

Seeing that, and the other "exposition" scene the anime added (Ywach's partial defeat by the Gotei 13, 1000 years ago), which ALSO lacked dialogue, I'm wondering if the terms of the anime adaptation are "no dialogue revisions or additions, but minor cuts are allowed". That would make me somewhat sad, as, again, my LORD it seems Kubo either A: didn't have an editor or B: ignored his editor during this arc.

To be fair, he also did that during the Aizen Butterfly arc. It was just a lot more egregious this time.

Personally I am hoping second cour will
have the Soul Reapers and Quincies both training and preparing for the 2nd Invasion
and the omitted details could be added there somehow.

I think Mayuri talking about the other broken bankai works in the manga because you can read at your own pace but it would get dull if in the anime Mayuri was just rambling on
about things that are besides the point.
The point being Ichigo’s bankai.

although there were some details and moments that I would have liked left in
such as Robert shooting the messenger.

No official confirmation, but 'according to multiple leaks' Hell arc will start following Sakamoto days ending

Not sure how much to read into these 'leaks', but the thought is nice

Yeah, as far as I can tell it's all rumors but with the anime expanding the manga's ending and with kubo rather suddenly being active on whichever media it's hard to not give the rumors some merit. I'd also argue the relatively recent hell arc chapter was at least testing the waters for interest and it's clear it was there. That said, I wouldn't be too surprise if the series continues as an anime rather than a manga. It'd be a shame but bleach works pretty well as anime and kubo seems to love that side of things too considering how many times he provided the anime with designs and ideas.

Guys, are you serious? Do you remember how disastrously Bleach was handled during its final arc—or rather, ever since Aizen’s defeat, throughout the last twenty-five volumes?


Kubo pulled twenty-seven random nobodies out of thin air, each named after a letter of the alphabet. Nobody cared about them, and almost all of them died shortly after being introduced. Their only real purpose was to pad out the story. He kept writing himself into corners and seemed to have no way out other than relying on deus ex machina after deus ex machina in virtually every chapter.


Unsurprisingly, that train wreck came at a cost. The publisher lost faith in the series and gave Kubo only five chapters to wrap it up. I’m genuinely astonished that, after such a disastrous showing, he is still being given the opportunity to write. At some point, after making the same mistakes over and over again, why keep insisting?

Oh, I know full well how Kubo treated the Bleach story. I thought it began to drop off shortly after Aizen's reveal and then the decrease in quality ramped up significantly, following Aizen's hogyoku absorption demonstration
... The less said about the reintroduction of the Quincy, the better...

I am not expecting a masterpiece of storytelling

What I do expect, however, is some awesome art and great character design

My favorite thing about the Quincy 3rd Reich arc is that Tite Kubo kept trying to make Ishida Uryuu interesting and compelling as a character. And failed - miserably.

I wouldn't say he failed miserably but since the final arc was by all appearances rushed there were a lot of plot points which were never properly touched on. Why did Souken reject volstandig? Ishida got a volstandig in the anime and a fight with renji which to me is suggestive of kubo at some point at least planning to include that in the manga. The manga never elaborated on why ishida was immune to aushwallen or how he was otherwise special. Kubo elaborated in Q/As about how most quincy got their unique abilities from juhabach with the exception of the quincy who have some relation to the soul king. But we never learn if Ishida's own ability is innate or given or if it has some other origin. With ishida accepting volstandig and souken having rejected it you'd think there's be some development somewhere that brings these plot points full circle. I'd speculate that juhabach being able to take volstandig away perhaps hints at why souken rejected it. As in, perhaps rejecting volstandig was the same as rejecting juhabach. Ryuken arbitrarily appearing at the end with dead quincy silver mumbo jumbo is probably a very abridged version of whatever kubo actually planned.

And going over what kubo has said and novel summaries there's also a vibe that the actual soul king, who has the strongest version of allmighty, is playing a game so comically long that even aizen would roll his eyes at it.
