Question Browing the forums - Beacons..?

These forums are not small, especially if you follow a couple the mangas being supported here, so, my problem is to keep track on whenever people reply through quoting your message.

There are TONS of pages to go through, and it's really hard to keep track on it all.

Is there a way that I haven't seen to sort of "beacon" when someone replies to a post you have made..? Much like the Thanks / Like system, but with quotes..?

I noticed that if you click on the thread name under "last post" from the forum board consisting of different topics, it will bring you to the last read post in that topic, are there something similar with quotes..?

I haven't found one, and I start to imagine that people browsing the "entire" forum most have an amazing memory and time to find quotes to their own post Possibly, I'm missing something here..?

There are so called "quote notification" hacks for vBulletion.

However, the thing with mods and hacks is always that the more we add, the more difficult it gets to maintain or update the board. Some hacks slow down site functions such as e.g. the search. So we always have to see if it's a helpful thing to add or if it could result in problems. Is it worth to bother?

Personally, I find such a search or filter function problematic. Surely it sounds easy and nice on first sight but I'm afraid it could result in "parallel discussions" when people stop following the threads as a whole but only react to posts with their own quotes, you know what I mean? That would happen pretty fast in busy threads and then you end up with plenty of people talking next to each other instead with each other. In smaller or slower threads it's not really needed anyways since you won't loose the overview too fast there.

If you only want to check occasionally, you can use the search of the forum or thread in question. Select "show as posts" and search for "quote=cez" or "posted by cez". At least the first one worked for me when I tried it just now. Won't work when people quoted you by copy/paste without your name but that would fall out of an automatic filter as well.

Alright, that actually makes a lot of sense, can see why it's problematic both in codes but also if solving that problem, might lead to another bigger problem, like you said, people might stop to read so much unless they get quoted..
