Cleaning Can someone tell me how they did this Gray editing?

Okay, here's the thing. These guys took a really grainy scan with grainy grays and made the grays smoothe, like so

Without messing up the whites/blacks/etc.


Does anyone know how to do this technique? It seems really helpful.

It looks to me like they selected out the grays and applied a filter to only them.

I agree there were other filters used overall but they appeared to have selected the grays specifically for use with filter/filters.

No, it was the same thing for the entire page.

I'm not assuming anything, I was in TOWNL and I am able to do the same thing XD;;

... it is a secret right? I have been trying myself to emulate it also. And I've been searching for tutorials but no such luck.

Well at least you gave a clue. I was thinking like Allashandra in that the filter was selected only at the grays. Now at least we know that its not

I'm not going to stop until I figure out how you guys did it. Though I still have a lot of learning to catch up on.

emery, you said it was a grainy scan... but it would be great to see the raw before talking much about methods used... depending on the raw there can be differences in methods as you as an experienced editor should know...

a raw makes taking a look if what you thought is right easier.

Chris and Fnuckale use similar styles in there scans with Death Note as they did with Blue Dragon and also Mx0 for that matter. Or at least I think so since you start noticing the same things when you try to study there scans (maybe I'm the only person who does that)
