- weak background story (of the whole crew his is the only one that is self-contained with no real impact on the rest of the story)
- shallow interactions with crew
- sanji rivalry is oda being passive aggressive
- constantly being injured (in the arc where everyone is getting back up, it'd be crazy if he's the only one to stay down)
- two of his biggest moments in the story is of him being nearly killed
- has no real impact on the story besides fights with arc fodder
- any plotline he gets is editor forced and oda quickly "out of sight, out of mind"' them (e.g. tashigi being a lookalike going nowhere)

Ancient weapons aren't typical weapons of mass destruction. People dubbed them as weapons because of their fear and lack of knowledge. Because of the other kingdoms' fear and greed, they formed an alliance and decided to void it from existence acquiring the powers of devil fruit to themselves ultimately spreading it to various parts of the whole world. Joyboy is the first pirate who pioneered from the clan of d to travel the world and hopes for unity befriending most races including kozuki and fishmen but because of his powers, his crew and his clan was deemed dangerous. Roger and his crew laugh because it's so silly how everyone got scared of the treasure one piece when it fact it was junk. Although the treasures of the great kingdom is still buried in raftel so the strawhats will still have it. Roger and Kozuki wants the people to see it with their own eyes and realize their stupidity and mistake. One piece is there to unite every race and end discrimination and slavery.

Devil Fruit users don't lose their powers in the sea just because. It's because someone or something exercises their will or power over all the water in the world to such a degree that any Devil Fruit user largely submerged in it begins to lose their strength.

My guess: Davy Jones, the legend of whom was introduced by Robin all the way back during Long Long Island, described as an ancient pirate who was cursed by the Devil and who lives on the bottom of the sea to this day. As the world of One Piece became bigger and bigger, that little tidbit of information seemed less and less of just a throwaway detail to be forgotten.

Did he eat a Water Water fruit? Does he have a conquering will so powerful that any 'devils' that enter his demesne become suppressed and lose their power? My idea would be something along those lines.

Could he have been a figure from the antiquity of the Void Century, who was consigned to a bitter grave below the waters by the ancestors of the Celestial Dragons? Are there secrets he jealously guards on the bottom of the sea to this day? If he truly spurned the founders of the World Government, that may very well satisfy the legend of him being the 'First Pirate'.

Nice theory...
But i think its more likely that whatever causes the sea and seastone to behave the way they do has to do with the creation of DFs as well.... Again, i cannot provide evidence for it but within the constraints of this thread, i imagine a celestial body crashing onto the OP planet with organic matter turning into DF and the planet's inorganic matter dissolving in the seas / mixing to seastone...

My theory is just based on Superman and Krypton. Superman goes weak to a kryptonite but has the same origins as that. Similarly, DFs act in a manner....

The huge shadows with eyes shown at the end of Thriller Back arc are Sky Kings. Sky Kings are creatures as high as the Sky that can be commanded by the ancient weapon Uranus. The only Sky King revealed in the manga was Zunisha. Sky Kings live far away from any seashore in ocean area where there is no human-like species around.

Allowing his arm, the straw hat, wanting to personally handle BB, somehow convincing Kaido to turn around, the Elders not seeming concerned when he arrived, etc.

Kaido first appeared physically in 2015. Stampede came out in 2019. If one character is based on the other, it'd be Douglas. But either way every One Piece movie-only character is always designed by Oda .
