Yakuto's root is Black Dragon, but transforming into a dragon isn't part of that root's powerset. What allows him to transform into a dragon (and absorb other dragons) is a curse that he got from somewhere else

But isn't the power of the root or whatever to progressively transform into the creature they have a root of? Not sure of how this works..

From my understanding, your root is just your ancestor, and serves as an explanation for where your powers came from.

Mikoto's ancestor was a Lich, which is where she got her necromancer powers. Hien's was fenrir, which is why he has ice powers.

Yakuto's was a Black Dragon. I've got no idea what he inherited from it, but according to this chapter, it wasn't his Dragon transformation

If it doesn't become significantly more interesting than the last chapter not very. And considering the ending of EZ I'd say mashima's creativity is burned out for now.

From what I understood it was supposed to only be about 12 chapters. But it seems to be going a little further

But from what I'm feeling I don't think this series is going to be going on for much longer. I don't think Mashima's style lends itself to monthly releases, hes more fast paced
