Mr 3 is actually a great user of the DF. We replaced it with a key, uses to create his bunshins, saves himself from being eaten, handicaps the opponent and even shielded against Magellan's poison.
Its unfair to rate him as worst...

Inazuma never cut Kairouseki, when did he do that?
When he freed Crocodile in Impel Down and possibly Jinbei because normal stone would be broken by him.

Agreed. No ordinary string user would be able to repair his own organs for example, or make a copy of himself.

I still don't understand why his strings are so unbreakable. Makes no sense really.
It's a common weapon in the anime world, it's not supposed to break, only by something overpowered

Didn't they have keys or something?? Its probably unexplained but I seriously doubt it would be made of seastone.

No they didn't, if I'm not wrong Luffy asks him to freed Crocodile and Jinbei and yes Oda didn't show that in manga but in anime it was pretty clear (I don't know why, maybe just for coolness) But Boa Hancock in the Marineford War was also able to break Smoker's jutte with her legs

Well, the most wasted fruit around is definitely buggy's. His fruit is simply insanely strong, to the point where he is the one person in the manga who has a real degree of invulnerability. His mobility and angles from which he can attack are insane. If he had rokushiki he would be able to turn every part of his body into a bullet... He could even have an alternative to gears if he rearranges his body. Even with haki you can't actually cut him. Normal restraints would not work on him either. How dangerous would buggy be if he was a competent swordsman? Its ridiculous how underused his fruit is.

Blackbeard with the Bara bara could be ridiculously deadly if he were able to absorb a 3rd fruit. Spread his body to avoid damage and use different limbs for Yami Yami No Mi & Gura Gura No Mi techniques.

We're probably yet to still see the extent to which the Bara Bara No Mi can be effective; if it can also more or less be spread to his surroundings, he'll be like a pseudo-Law controlling planes of buildings (or people) and manipulating as he wills it.

Yeah but like kkck said, it could be very useful on a swordsman, imagine Shanks or Mihawk using it, they could cut people down while avoiding to be cut themselves, spread their bodies all around and attack from every angle, it would be too hax :XD

I am not sure how of how buggy's fruit would interact with BB's yami fruit. As far as we have seen BB can become intangible even when he is a logia because the fruits pulls things in (that is my understanding anyways). So it wouldn't be weird if the fruit doesn't allow BB to separate from his limbs. He would retain immunity to being cut at least which in reality is very significant though. It would be hax if he could spread his limbs around to release gravity. Or to nullify multiple DF abilities at once... He could easily come in contact with a lot of people.

Anyways, virtually any fighting style would benefit from the bari fruit. Swordsmen could do insane things but imagine someone like sanji with it. Keep his hands on the ground as pivot and he could send his enemies flaming flying kicks of death from multiple angles. geppo actually solves the issue that limbs get left unsafely behind... I am sure kamie and the fruit could be used for some awesome body modifications. Maybe even sending limbs that thanks to kamie are sharp coupled with hardened haki and tekkai/shigan.... The user would literally be firing papercuts which is a concept as awesome as it is terrifying. Even without geppo I wouldn't be surprised if kamie could be used along with a weird body makeup to make the user into something that could fly...

I'm not sure of that. Yes, Mihawk attacked him and he didn't take any damage, but was that sword attack imbued with haki? We all know that Mihawk masters Haki, although that does not mean that every single attack is haki imbued. Zoro, for example, only use Haki imbued attacks in fewer occasions.

I always though that Buggy fruit was meant to be the opposite of Luffy's: while Luffy is immune to physical attacks, but takes damage from cuts, Buggy 'can't' be sliced up, but takes damage from regular physical attacks (impact attacks). That being said, Luffy takes damage from physical attacks IMBUED with CoA and I do believe Buggy too.

The issue here is that the mechanism that allows haki users to hurt logia is irrelevant to buggy. Haki in itself allows contact with intangible things which allows you to get to those shifty logia bodies. In turn buggy is not intangible, contact is not an issue in any form or context. And haki does not nullify DF abilities at all, take luffy as an example who remains rubber even when punched with haki. Haki does not provide any specific advantages when it comes to cutting buggy.

That is very true, but the most interesting part about the fruit is its similarity to ope-ope no mi....

Now Law can use this fruit to heal or aid others, if someone skilled consumed it, he could as well grant immortality to himself.

The worst fruits are those that are used by dumb people that can't even realize the full potential of their DF's abilities.

This is a tough question to answer, since devil fruits would have to be judged on the following criteria: the fighting ability and creativity of the user, the potential and limitations of the fruit itself, the synergy between fruit and user, the user's experience with the fruit being chief among them, and the situational circumstances of the user. Since as far as I know, the fruits don't tell their users their secrets, and it's hard to gauge the end potential of a fruit since we have generally seen only one user per fruit (with two exceptions so far; three if Miss Valentine died and Machvise ate the reincarnated Kilo Kilo Fruit as I assume).

For instance, Brook's devil fruit was considered to be useless save for having revived him after he died, but he learned to astrally project himself and channel the cold of the underworld, so I would call that good use of a devil fruit.

Sugar's devil fruit has a very specific usage, but the fact that it's super overpowered and she used it to pretty much take control of an entire country on Doflamingo's behalf means it was used pretty damn well.

On the other hand, any logia user that thinks himself invincible isn't likely to draw out the fruit's full potential, and the likes of Caribou and Gasparde could be said to use their powerful fruits rather poorly by New World standards.

Kalifa and Kaku were forced to use and improvise with their newly acquired devil fruit powers, but they showed creativity and willingness to experiment even in a life or death battle, that is pretty good use of a devil fruit, all circumstances considered.

Rocinante may not have used his devil fruit powers a lot, due to wanting to keep them secret from Doflamingo, and from what we have seen the fruit's powers may be fairly limited in scope, but he still managed to get Law out of the bird cage alive.

Kanjuro and his devil fruit, which lets him bring his drawings to life, suffer from bad synergy since his incredibly bad drawing skill likely keeps him from bringing out the fruit's maximum potential. Could that be considered a bad usage of the fruit? Not by itself, I would say.

As for the best usage of devil fruits seen up till now, I would have to say Luffy, Doflamingo and Law. Luffy as the main character gets to show off a lot of abilities, and there is no doubt he can do some crazy shit with his devil fruit. It is fair to say he has plumbed depths that few fruit users would, as I have seen very few devil fruit abilities that are as physically and mentally intensive as Luffy's Gears. Doflamingo, for obvious reasons (Awakening) and Law because he uses his intensely powerful fruit to create a massive variety of effects.

As for worst uses? Well, Senor Pink springs to mind. I really like the guy, but his hard-boiled attitude makes him use his fruit rather poorly, considering he could likely just draw Franky under and make him suffocate. Which is fine. This manga wouldn't be quite as good if everyone used their fruits to perfect effect.

To me it seems like pink's fruit was limited enough in scope for that to be it. Sure, he could bury someone but the process is not in itself necessarily easy. He could be hit on the way down and realistically speaking he would have to swim his way back up which means that particular technique has some risk to. And it does not necessarily mean his enemy won't be able to dig his way out. Luffy and zoro were lifting buildings shortly after they entered the grand line and their strength from them would be negligible by today' standards. Its entirely possible that franky or someone else could dig his way back up through force alone.

I am not sure if caribou is necessarily a bad fruit user. He was weak but that is completely different from being bad at his fruit. In context caribo was a rookie pirate and he was walking around the recently trained strawhat crew and jinbe... Of course he was going to appear helpless. Luffy himself was like that 2 years ago at the war.

There were a lot of devil fruit users in the story who just never figured out how to properly use their ability, but I feel the worst offender is Mr.5.

When I first saw Mr.5 in Whiskey peak so many years ago when I first started the series I had extremely high hopes for him. Cool badass character design, was a single digit Baroque Works agent, and had the powers of the Bomu Bomu No Mi. The Bomu Bomu No Mi allows him to turn any part of himself into a bomb and he becomes immune to explosions. He then proceeded to pick his nose, and hurl his buggers at people because of the explosion!:facepalm

I think many of us if we were given that power would never use it the way Mr.5 ultimately used it. And this was true even way back then when no one really had any idea what Haki even was!

What a disappointment.

Then again it's still a really funny joke when I think about it, thanks Oda!:teehee

I think the Pop-Pop no mi of Gladius is more useful of a devil fruit even with a beginner user considering that it can turn anything inorganic big or small into bombs and is not only limited to body parts unlike Mr. 5.

I wouldn't think the booger thing is a bad use of his fruit. If anything it allows him some range to a fruit that wouldn't normally have it since only his body explodes. The issue here is that Mr 5 simply didn't have any strength to speak of, even by the standards of the manga back then. Even punching zoro with an explosion didn't do much IIRC. That is not to say the way he used the explosions was bad though, just that he was not strong enough to justify him having the fruit. Under normal circumstances the fruit would be an incredible close range addition as his close combat would be boosted by explosions. It would have been interesting to see what would happen if this fruit was used alongside haki too. Imagine mr 5 taking a piece of hair, harden it with haki and throw it to an enemy as a needle or something of the sort. Boogers or hair as timed bombs could be useful too. Mr 5 ultimately used the fruit as one would expect, to explode punch people and throw anything his body does to use as bombs. Not using boogers is not really better... just more dignified at best.

The only use of the mera mera fruit I would hold against ace so far is his lack of flying. He uses fire so can't he propel himself? I guess the same could be said for many logia users (except monet). Ace should be at least able of shooting fire from his feet so as to propel himself.

Misconceptions about Logia
I think there's a lot of miss-assumption surrounding Logia and Paramecias. One thing we should all bear in mind is Oda has stated in SBS is Vegapunk will explain the origin of DFs which most likely includes how one classifies DF types.

Note: Bottom of page contains the source of most of my information such as Vegapunk explaining DFs and such.

The secular outlook on Logia determining
The majority of messages I've read across the forum boards assume that if one is untouchable (without Haki) and can produce whatever they're made of, then they're Logias; that's wrong imo and I'll explain why so bare with me.

Another Outlook
I think all evidence should be taken as fact in the Manga. Since Trebol's Paramecia revelation; there's certain attributes that have never been contradicted between Logia and Paramecia users:
  1. Turn into anything that's a force of nature or produced by forces of nature and is not produced by an organism.
Lightening is produced by forces of nature and has a non-solid form. Thunder is produced by forces of nature, but has no form. Venom is produced by organisms and can't be a Logia attribute.
  2. It must be visible possess a non-solid form.
Earthquakes are produced by forces of nature, but no form; except earthquakes had a form that wasn't solid, Whitebeard can't be a Logia.

All known Logia fit under this 2 notions

Enel
Turns into lightening which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form and is not solid.

Kizaru
Turns into light which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form and is not solid.

Aokiji
Turns into ice which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form.

Akainu
Turns into magma which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form.

Monet
Turns into snow which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a visible appearance and is not solid.

Ace & Sabo
Turns into flames which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form.

Crocodile
Turns into sand which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form.

Caeser Clown
Turns into gas which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form.

Caribou
Turns into a swamp/mud which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form.

Blackbeard
Turns into a black-hole which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form which is why Ace's fire enters through him rather than hit. More details below on why he's a Black-hole and not Darkness (the absence of light).

He fits under this classification, but requires a brief explanation, his DF is the Darkness fruit. It's easy to assume Oda means Darkness as in the absence of light which is the opposite of Kizaru, but that's wrong, how? When you switch your lights off, gravity doesn't increase?

In space there's something called a Black-hole, it can't be seen which is why Oda portrays Blackbeard's DF as darkness and this is why he can turn into darkness too. Another thing is Black-holes (the biggest ones) are found in the centre of galaxies, they can't be seen but their effect can be observed which is to pull everything around it towards it.

Blackbeard's body is literally a Black-hole which is why his body absorbs more pain, lightening and any sort of attack.

Smoker
Turns into smoke which is produced by forces of nature (not organisms), has a non-solid form.

Why They're Paramecia

If one doesn't possess all attributes of a Logia, then you're not a Logia:
  1. Possess a non solid-form.
  2. Be produced by forces of nature or because of forces of nature (and never by an organism).
Pica
Doesn't turn into non-solid form though produced by forces of nature.

Whitebeard
Doesn't turn into non-solid form though produced by forces of nature.

Shu
Doesn't turn into non-solid form though produced by forces of nature.

Magellan
Doesn't turn into non-solid form and produced by organisms.

Diamond Jozu
Doesn't turn into non-solid form though produced by forces of nature.

Trebol
Turns into non-solid form, though produced by organisms (not forces of nature). Below I explain in more detail that he's really not a solid.

  • Why would Law tell someone that they won't be able to reattach themselves? Because they're not incapacitated when cut. Why didn't Law tell Tashigi that she won't be able to reattach her body back together? Because she remains incapacitated when cut up.
  • So why did he use a different technique against Trebol?
When he defeated Vergo, he cut him onto pieces with the same nameless technique he used for everyone else because it renders them incapacitated.
  • Against Trebol, he uses Radio Knife and explicitly states that he won't be attaching himself back together, why didn't he just slice him normally with a nameless technique like he did to Vergo to incapacitate him? Why did he have to use Radio Knife against Trebol and not anybody else?

It can only be because he (is not incapacitated when cut by normal means) can attach himself together like Kizaru, Aokiji or Akainu if he used normal cutting technique.
To reiterate, we know that Trebol:
  • His body can turn into mucus and he can produce mucus.
  • His mucus makes him untouchable by normal methods which is why Usopp's attack doesn't kill him.
  • It doesn't matter if he's cut as long as it's not with haki or special techniques.
How did Law cut Trebol?
Another thing I think one should note is that Law's room doesn't seem to require him to use haki to cut down the opponent, but the opponent must defend with haki if they're to be protected from his abilities. Doflamingo confirms this by saying Vergo's haki is strong enough to defend from Law's cutting power, not his haki.
Now, another thing to note is why couldn't Luffy hurt him?
Oda has confirmed that the clothes of DF users take on their ability; Trebol is a very lean old man and he wears a robe that acts like a canopy around his body. He can assimilate his body with the inside of his clothing; and as a result of this, when Luffy hits his robes rather than his body. If Luffy punched Crocodile's robe with haki, should Crocodile feel pain? No and this is the same with Trebol.

SBS Volume 35 (2004) - States that Paramecia can change their bodies too like Logia (talking about intangibility).
Source: SBS and patterns in Oda's classification in spoiler

  • Oda has highlighted Logia as nature as one of the keywords. Also note in Oda's response, Paramecia can change their own bodies as well (Trebol). - SBS Volume 35
  • Earthquakes are natural, yet he said it's not Logia because there's no non-solid form of earthquake displayed on Whitebeard's body. - SBS Volume 58
  • Again, he uses nature to identify a Logia. - SBS Voume 30
  • Oda is talking about is none other than the renowned Vegapunk except there's another professor of his calibre. He also says he will explain what Devil fruits are which should include their type. - SBS Voume 48
Also, you see the pattern in his Classification of Logia, he constantly implies being natural and being intangible (not solid) to be remotely recognized as Logia.

  • Why would Law tell someone that they won't be able to reattach themselves? Because they're always able to reattach themselves when cut. Why didn't Law tell Tashigi that she won't be able to reattach her body back together?

  • Trebol was cut into pieces by Law, he tries to re-attach himself but he can't because Law used his Devil Fruit ability. That scene as a whole doesn't make sense if Trebol wasn't a Logia.

In chapter 180, Enel says "if he's a Paramecia, his powers won't reach further than his body." Does this mean that, say, Captain Smoker and Sir Crocodile aren't Paramecias?
That fan is not right. Crocodile can produce a sandstorm and Smoker use his Devil Fruit to power the engine of his Billower Bike.
