We can't say either way we can only speculate with a high probability of being correct in regards to devil fruits regenerating or coming back after the user is deceased.

As an example we can see that in romance dawn it states the "gomu gomu" tree regrows every 50 years; sure this was before oda conceived the idea of a unique fruit per person instead of just a rubber man, it is very interesting.

We could just dismiss that as oda being indecisive and will change that later, however characters KNOWING what a fruit is before eating it is a very very strong proof that fruits need to come back in some way or form.

However, oda could surprise us all. What I myself want to know is why in flashbacks that date back hundreds of years no devil fruits are around...

This leads me to a theory but it's premature. As an example; the one shot Oda made called "Monsters" is actually canon to One Piece story, in fact that is where Ryuuma came from, he is the main character still alive in that story. Not only that but the Wano country is a new world country, so devil fruit powers should not be that uncommon. This can easily be explained due to oda doing this before one piece and couldn't of included it but still what if this is a hint? Same with Montblanc "Liar" Noland, why did no one in his timeframe have devil fruits that we know of? That takes place 400 years ago, monsters probably takes place between 200-800 years ago.

For some reason I believe devil fruits may not be an ancient thing, in fact it's so weird that so many fruits exist, but in the four blues most people regard them as a myth.

We know at least devil fruits date back 50 years, and since brooke was not hesitant about eating it probably existed longer back then that. Though to our knowledge devil fruits originate in grand line which could explain why four blues regard them as myth. However even marines get surprised when they see a fruit user.

Regardless that's the bigger mystery, we can say we a high probability that fruits do grow back however.

My thoughts on it are like this..

They lose energy very steadily underwater, but won't become completely useless under water for at least a few moments...

The side effect of eating a DF is losing all your strength and energy in water. For Luffy, falling into the sea and losing his energy means he loses control over his body, and will thus drown as he can not even hold his breath underwater. For a fishman, it would be the same thing: they'd lose all their strength and sink like a hammer, but they wouldn't drown as they have gills and whatnot, and are able to breath normally under water even in an unconscious state (just like we're able to breath air even when unconscious).

So basically, a fishman DF user would have the advantage of not drowning, but still be just as useless in water as any other DF user as they wouldn't even be able to move. Well, that's my view on it, anyway.
I agree with you a fishman wouldn't die under water like other DF users do but would be useless like every DF...but i would like it if he wouldn't go unconscious and just talking with himself and waiting for someone to save him........

I posted my prediction a while back in another thread that the strawhats would get a new crewmember that is a fishman human hybrid and he would also have a devil fruit but his fishman heritage would nullify the devil fruit water weakness

and that he could also be their helmsman. I know it sounds stupid but I think it fits the strawhats unorthodox style if they had a helmsman that steered the ship underwater.

sorry.. I mean pain, i say sick because it have the same thing in Indonesian..
@freid : thanks for your help.. :-)

@kckc : sory for my understanding.. :-)
i mean, luffy is rubberman.. The hit can't make him felt pain.. But when he attacked by haki, he felt pain.. It mean he lost his rubbers power, but it only happen in one point in luffy's body, such as when ray hit him with his finger (with haki) in his head.. One point in luffy's head lost his df power and he felt pain.. But another of body still have df's power.. So, haki can neutralize df powers but in one point that contact with haki (it just for paramecia type like luffy, that can transform their body became something)..

I hope my opinion can be understand..
Sorry if my english isn't good.. :-)

Well, of course it is. Because we've yet to see any haki user capable of sending haki to all of DF user's body (I mean, basically enveloping DF user in your haki if you're a haki user). Unlike other's manga with the same principle, in OP you can't send you haki flying (well, I'm not talking about CoC 'cause CoC is a unique one). In OP, to unleash your haki to damage your opponent with CoA you've to touch your opponent body. You can only punch or kick your opponent at some part of their body or you can do it like Luffy's Gatling and Storm technique (hit you opponent countlessly in a flash). Even with Luffy's Gatling or Storm, you'll still touch some part of your opponent body at a time, not all of them at the same time.

PS: Actually, there's a way to use CoA and send haki to all parts of your opponent body. But, I doubt it'll be used in a real fight. That way is "hug your opponent" like what Luffy did with Hancock and use CoA. I'm sure it'll nullify all DF ability in your opponent body. XD

So in my group of friends i am the only one that likes One Piece and i tell my friends about from time to time and i was telling them about people and devil fruits and there can only be one person with the fruits powers until they die. i told them everything and then they asked me if these are fruits and fruits are suppose to have seeds then why can you get seeds from the devil Fruits and just regrow and mass produce them. imagine having a garden full of Gura Gura no mis

So me and my friends kept talking and i told them that i would start a thread about it and tell them the results so what do you guys think if devil fruits and in fact fruits why cant people grow them

Re: Why cant people grow Devil Fruits

My guess would be the fruits themselves dont have seeds but in order to truly answer this i think we would need to know how they grow in the first place.

Re: Why cant people grow Devil Fruits

There's only 1 of each devil fruit in the OP world, and I'd assume that they don't have seeds because when the person who has the devil fruit dies, that's when the devil fruit starts growing somewhere else. I'm not specifically sure where I heard this, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Now, you might say that because of this, as soon as WB died, BB shouldn't of been able to get the Gura Gura fruit, but here's how I think it works.

When a person who had a Devil Fruit dies, I think that once they decompose, they're where the new fruit will pop out from. So basically, the person who eats the devil fruit becomes the seed.

Clearly an expert in biology.

Did you know that strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries all are not actual berries? Did you know that in French a potato is known as a "pomme de terre," or "apple of the earth," despite it not actually being an apple? It is possible that DFs are not actual fruits but something else. We don't even know enough about them to determine that they are, in fact, a reproductive organ.

So me and my friends kept talking and i told them that i would start a thread about it and tell them the results so what do you guys think if devil fruits and in fact fruits why cant people grow them
The only place where Oda has touched on this is in Romance Dawn..
(If you don't know what that is... go read Naruto.. :p J/K)

Here: http://tenmangas.com/chapter/OnePiece0/174877-14.html

Supposedly there is an Illusion Tree that Grows DF at most once every 50 years.. So somewhere there is a tree that grows DF.. (Maybe a different tree for each DF..?? Dunno??) But either way the tree only bears fruit once each 50 years.... so I guess farming them is out of the picture...

Apparently Vegapunk has learned the mysteries of the DF.. and when we meet him will likely learn a ton more about how Df's work, are grown and whatnot.

Re: Why cant people grow Devil Fruits

Perhaps if the fruit is planted, the resulting tree/bush/shrub/root/etc will only bear one fruit before dying, and is thus a cycle.

Ooooorrrrrr, it's only a fruit by name as undertoe suggested based on the outwards appearance of Devil Fruits and they are not indeed grown or seeds.

Considering the only forms of obtaining a fruit we've thus far seen have been by taking it out of a box handed to someone by someone, we're far from understanding the true nature of the Devil Fruit. Chopper's DF flashback is the only non-box devil fruit eating we've seen, and it was a whole lot of nothng.

Well if we are going too look at the origins and how the "fruits" came to be, we really dont have enough info really, but i guess we just have to think up good ideas untill dr. punk gets some screen time, shit, we dont even know what he looks like. Il bet ether one of my nuts that he got an DF. IQ fruit maby, hehe, but offtopic.

What we know is that they are supposedly just parts of what was once a demon that got slain and the fruits is what he left behind, probably hence the devil fruits name? But all we can do is speculate really.

Re: Why cant people grow Devil Fruits

I may be going off the deep end on this one, but if I was to consider the nature of devil fruits the main things I would consider are:

1st, they are closely related to the sea... and it just happens that the One Piece world is mostly submerged. Whether if this was always the case or not will probably have a lot to do with where devil fruits 1st came from.

2nd, the one quality that all devil fruits share is that the one who ate it will have their energy drained while they are also submerged. On a related note, another question that might be relevant is where seastone/seaprism/kairoseki comes from since they seem to be just as rare as devil fruits. Interestingly enough, seastone also has a quality that it shares with poneglyphs (they can't be destroyed but can be carved into shapes)

3rd, Devil fruits can affect objects as well as people, so its not strictly a matter of "eating" but some kind of transfer in ability where the ability is encapsulated in the fruit.

I guess, the real mystery is "how exactly is an ability encapsulated in a fruit that grows in a tree?" Answering this will probably also have a lot to do with why they only grow once every 50 or so years and why only one fruit of one kind can exist at any one time. But knowing Oda, he will have an elaborate explanation that sounds very much believable as we get closer to the end of the Grand Line the same way he made it believable to have an island exist in the sky.

yep i'm also sure that we will learn more about DF when we meet vegapunk after all the guy even found a way do make objects eat a DF so he must know a lot about them....if the tree makes fruits once 50 years then it is possible that there will be another gomu gomu no mi since luffy had the fruit when he was little so if he lives through this 50 years then there will be 2 of this DF ??? or the tree will make just the fruits that don't exist yet...uff this sure rises a lot of questions :amuse

I don't think DF grow from a tree, if it was the case, then the WG will just protect the tree, and always pick the DFs and give them to their best fighters and have a monopoly over it and a big army of DF users. I think that they appear randomly at different places, or something like that.

I believe the roots - be it a tree or w/e - are in Raftel. That Island will solve a lot of OP mysteries. I also think that the island is surrounded by the All blue, which water is the reason for the growth of DF.

So basically, the person who eats the devil fruit becomes the seed.
omg if that is true it is very cool. you guys think that we will see luffy with more than 1 devil fruit power ???? maybe not but i think would be cool for they to find one and than they had to choose who was going to be with it , in my oppion it would be great if usoop got a new power lol:)

i like alot the logia devil fruit but i have to say that i love the ancient and mythological zoan
