My third typesetting venture based on Gintama chp 97 and I'd be glad to hear your opinions. Don't hesitate to tell me if the fonts look wierd or if I could have made a better selection/better scaling, etc. O.o I would appreciate it. These pages are from a guide (WIP) I am making. Thanks!

I got the fonts from www.blambot.com
Page01: Dialogue
Page02: Strong dialogue + SFX
Page03: Title w/ shadow
Page04: Shouts, Screams and Exclamations w/ white fonts
Page05:Alien speech
Page06:Intense shouting and yelling
Page07: Aggressive commands

Hey, that's nice of you to say that, lol.

Another person commented that there are too many FONTS there, even for a HQ release, that I musn't fall into the trap of making the fabric of the typesetting too "jagged". Although I have to say that the use of so many fonts is a Gintama characteristic, the manga is a little more "hyped" up compared to others...

Hmm...well, I'll be releasing a coupla chapters over this weekend, hopefully we'll see how this system holds up over 19 pages. >.<

Oh yeah, and there is also a mistake in the second page, when I said that fonts don't have to all be the same size... its best that the same size is maintained, ( except for the emphasized words) it gives a smoother feeling to the whole page. ^^

Thanks for commenting~:D

Wow this really is good. Was it ment to be a tutorial? casue it sure looks that way. Maybe i should show it to the person who typesets my Edited Mangas?

haha, I'm glad you found this helpful.

I did this because our first few typesetted Gintamas looked wierd when we used the same fonts as our other series, Kekkaishi. Anime Ace was used for Kekkaishi but when used in Gintama it looked too proper and cute for the sometimes blunt and sarcastic Gintama dialogue.

Well, actually, I didn't notice that until GGpx pointed that out, lol. That was a great piece of advice. :D

Yeah, that raised my attention to the need to choose a custom set of fonts unique to each particular series.

As of now, we've improved on this list a bit. We decided to drop Armour Piercing and occa standardized the font sizes to use for our 72 dpi RAWs.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that a great place to familiarize yourself with fonts is at Blambot.com. There are more sites, but I learnt the most from this one. :love
