Reread the fight, Irene was never distracted to the point where she somehow fell in durability. What about August and Brandish? August was hurt in his base form which is physically featless and Brandish is pathetic physically compared to anyone relevant.
Jellal performance against Acno > anything Erza has. That's what suggested superiority

Erza used her entire arsenal which are physical attacks something Acno doesn't have resistance too, which blindsided Acno. Jellal did it with magic and head on. Don't ignore context....
That's not an argument, let me just say all of Irene's feats are compensatory too. See how dumb that sounds.
Jellal has better feats thus he would splatter Human Irene. It's that simple, no mental gymnastics, trying to deduce narrative or anything, just who has better feats. Which is Jellal by showings, when not hard countered.
She was surprised hence the “!” When Wendy charged in. August was surprised too with Brandish suddenly stabbing him. Brandish is not physically bad as she could take hits from Enhanced Neinhart who is above her magic, which would mean she has higher Dura compared to AP. Those swords are magical, and even so, physical non spell attacks have magic power in the, via Magic Power Finder. And thus August and by extension Irene have better feats too since the former thrashed Jellal.
Yep, that's all I'm saying. If anything, Jellal was stronger than her in x792, since it's kinda implied that Erza has been slowly closing the gap to Laxus, while Jellal has always been that level.
Right now yeah we don't know exactly where he stands by feats, but in absence of feats which allow direct comparison, we go by portrayal.
Current Jellal scales to current Laxus, who is a lot stronger than his x792 self.
As for Gears, yes, we don't know where he stands. But Aldo seed seems to consider him a cut above the others, with his comment of "even Gears has fallen". And Jellal basically one shotted him with his mid tier spell once he got around the hax

Not an argument man. x792 Erza was somewhat comparable to human Eileen herself, after Wendy fell. No reason x792 Jellal won't be able to replicate that.
Current Jellal scales to current Laxus/Erza, who are confirmed to be a lot stronger than they were in x792.

I don’t think Gears was a non factor as he was just as surprised at his defeat as any other. Like Doom who he was genuinely taken back by, as he stated that he can’t waste time any longer, meaning he put in more effort against Natsu. And from the fact he was serious and Natsu able to react to his attack, Doom was pretty strong by comparison, and he was taken down by an Spriggan attack that is weaker than the original Spriggan user.
