Well the wish is apparently generated subconciously so it might depend on whether Mitsuragi was so obsessed with saving Kurisu that he doesn't care about the rest of the shadows or considers them unsavable.
I don't know, I think his obsession to save everyone trumps any possible obsession he may have with saving only Kurisu, all subconsciously as well. After all, his first subconscious wish is to become a doctor. Saving only Kurisu would betray that first wish he made, not just to become a doctor, but to save everyone he can.

Looks as though Sumio inherits a phone which (I think) shows how conscious people around Sumio are without being possessed by Shadows in terms of the phone's signals. Among the ones completely unconcscious is the person Sumio punched away from chapter 1 (his name is revealed to be Takeshi Iwakura).

Sorry but I won't share the happy mood
I don't really like plot twist just for the sake of making a plot twist. I didn't really reread the story to see if there is no unconsistancies but at first glance this turn of event really feel hair splitted and unnatural.

You can't really say that this is a "plot twist just for the sake of making one" though? I think this twist have been planned from the start. Personally I loved this chapter! It was very thrilling, and the art was awesome as always.

With how many chapters Enigma has, I think this little twist was probably planned from the start of the series. Take a look at chapter 8, when Matsurigi was in the incinerator. Here Sumio is suddenly able to "hear" something that everyone else can't and understands what Matsurigi wants them to do. His ability to hear and speak to Suuki is also dependent on this telepathic ability of his, as no-one else can hear Suuki over the cell phone.

I thought it was a good twist, I didn't see it coming at all despite the above hints. What's strange though is that if Sumio can read minds, why can't he read everyone else's mind? Or is he only able to read certain minds? Or only under certain circumstances?

And... Why didn't Shigeru ever ask Sumio about why he could hear what Kirio was saying :blink

That was a very interesting development. There was hints in earlier chapters that there was more to Sumio's "talent" than the dream diary but I didn't expect that he had Telepathy.
I was totally off on Shigure's talent but its ok because it makes sense in a weird sort of way.

And... Why didn't Shigeru ever ask Sumio about why he could hear what Kirio was saying :blink
Well I think it was alluded that she just thought Sumio was the kind of nice guy who would be friends with someone like that and never thought more of it. I guess cuz she was a middle schooler her though process wasn't the best.

BTW was that Kijima who said "Its begun The Parade of Madness" here

If so that means he's been watching them for a long time.

Well my assumption for why he can;t read everyone else's minds is that he's only been using the ability subconciously and doesn;t have any real control of it yet. I think it;s mostly been manifested through the future diary because that;s when it was first picked up and that;s the form of it Sumio's most comfortable with. As you mentioned though there has been times where he was able to use a somewhat more flexable version of telepathy.

If Sumio learns how to use it conciously, odds are he'll be able to pick up anyone's thoughts. Possibly more than that depending on how much power Kenji-sensei wants to give him since Telepathy can be more than just reading minds...

I love all of the mini-mysteries in the series. Like the school nurse. And the plane hijacking. And Kirio being attacked and mysteriously disappearing after that. This may only be the first arc, but a lot of it is setting up for the future as well.

Of course it was planed but by reading the commentars I'm not the only one to find it a bit weird. Why does collapsing on a table and writing prophecy has to do with telepathy : 0. That's why despite all the indices it was impossible to foresaw. The way Shigeru and Sumio power works with the diary is not really coherent with how it should work. Why do shigeru feel nothing when Sumio had a 'prediction', why didn't he noticed that he sometime hear people thoughts ? To me there to many weakness in the storytelling to enjoy the twist to its fullness.

I don;t think it's that weird. Both Shigeru and Sumio were using their powers subconsioudly so it;s plausable that Shigeru didn;t feel anything whenever Sumio used the diary because it;s a subconcious activation. As for Sumio not being aware of mind reading...the situation with Kirio comes across as weird in that regard(may just have been too much in the moment) but for all the other times it;s was during the test and everyone including himself was too busy trying to make sense of what was happening for him to actually take notice of it.

Unless someone told him outright that they couldn't hear Kirio speaking when he and Kirio were conversing, I guess he wouldn't really know that he was the only one who could hear Kirio. Their classmates called him "silence", but perhaps Sumio was only able to hear Kirio's thoughts in certain situations, eg when no-one else was around (except maybe Shigeru). It does seem a little weird, but maybe when we learn more about his power and what exactly he can or cannot do etc, it'll make a little more sense.

Now I wonder if Kirio will reappear sometime in the future, and if so, in what capacity.

What I don't really understand is how Shigeru power work. It seems it is her old child self who perform the prediction. Hence the katakana in the diary, the little girl we see on the last page. But did Shigeru made all these predictions once and she remember them now ? And Sumio would fell unconscious only when it's the little girl predictions.

@ Sala: i am sure Kirio will appear again, or at least i have belief he will :D

What i like about this manga is the foreshadowing. I remembered how i found Kijima paying so much attention to Aru odd, and viola, soon we found out about the reason. ^^
Of course, this manga is not without flaws. But i really enjoyed it and i hope it will survive as long as possible. Go, Go, Sakaki-sensei :)

Sumio could only hear thoughts that were meant for him to listen. The people wanted to talk (sent their thoughts to) with Sumio...
How will Sumio win with this ability? Kijima still has the upper hand.

I just came up with another theory:

Kijima is not Enigma. Rather, he is possessed by an entity known as Enigma at times, up to and including the current storyline.

Have you noticed something about his eyes? They seem to change depending on his behavior. When he's friendly, his eyes tend to be normal, pupils and all. When he's evil, his pupils turn into circles. Compare page 5 with page 6 of chapter 33 to see what I mean.

Also, given the translation for page 9 of the latest chapter, chapter 36, it seems as though Kijima is being controlled by another entity (which we can safely assume is Enigma).

What do you guys think?
