And that would explain why Hendrickson was frightened when Meliodas referred to Escanor

Well Hendy wouldn't know who killed the grey demon but he doesn't need to have known that it was Escanor's that killed it (assuming it was) for him to be wary of Escanor. If he ever encountered Escanor at any period while the sun was up, he wouldn't need anyone to tell him that Escanor isn't one to be messed with.

@kkck
For the part about the Grey demon still retaining some form or the fact that it only had a 'minor' injury like that from possibly battling Escanor, well there could be some logical reasons for that. A pretty easy one would simply be Escanor being bored. He probably slashed it once and killed it while thinking up poems for his beloved Merlin.

I suppose it's not impossible, but what would the purpose of that be?

I mean Hendy used the demon corpse that ban killed, so we could get a future scene where ban would get really pissed at him.
In that case there was a payoff.

What would the payoff be for escanor killing the grey demon? To show that he's a badass?
I mean that's a little moot at this point?

well it could be a random bow just to show te demon was dead? but as i said if it wasn't escanor then i'm really curios to know what else can take down a grey demon with a bow like that

Could be apart of his backstory, like Ban killing the Red Demon was apart of his. It wouldn't be a pay off, moreso the closing of a lose end of how it got there.

Hendricksen said he only found the demon 4 years ago. Assuming the death happened somewhere around that time then it wouldn't be much of a backstory. A battle with something like a grey demon, something which might as well have been stronger than dreyfus and hendricksen currently, is something that is bound to be noticed considering the sheer scale. So it would make sense that the location was investigated shortly after the fight and the demon was found. It wouldn't be weird if the backstory of the grey demon could give a clue as to escanor's location.

You know, I sort of wish the whole Vampires of Edinburgh sidestory never happened. Finding out about Escanor before he actually appeared in the story has made things much more frantic than I would have liked.

If we didn't know his deal people wouldn't be trying to insert him into every single conflict now and would actually be okay with him having a proper introduction.

I can truly sympathize with Gilan's want of none death. Truly the heart of the Nannatso no Tiesi series.

It wouldn't of mattered once Mel said Escanor even stronger than me after he just stomped Galan.

Don't start this, or you're gonna summon dark123 who's gonna use his transcendental logic to explain us how it's meaningless compared to Meliodas

So, Escanor is confirmed as human, no goddess shenanigans. What do you think is the source of his power ? From all the informations we have about races in Taizai, we can clearly see in general humans are the weakest race. So I kinda feel even if it's their best warrior, he shouldn't be able to be stronger than the elites demons.
So maybe Nabaka is in fact showing us there isn't a power scale between the races

Nakaba said escanor was a human quite some time ago. I don't think there has been a debate about this in a while...

Anyways, I don't think escanor really proves that humans can compare to other races powerwise, or at least not to the guys the sins are fighting specifically. For one thing, the main factor to consider for such a statement is probably "average". Basically average power of one race against another. And the maximum power of one race against another. And what it takes for each race to grow stronger.

So with that in mind it is quite easy to make the point that on average humans are without question the weakest race. If you limit the selection to holy knights then perhaps fairies would be a tad low however you have to consider that each and every last fairy has magic to begin with and with that in mind humans are clearly inferior powerwise. Add to that that they have the sacred tree to use as a weapon. Against demons the situation is even more dire as red demons, the weakest and lowest of the low, even beneath demon "toys" (the albions) are about 2 or 3 times more powerful than an average holy knight (500 pl against a red demons 1300). The grey demons have PL between 2700 and 3200, in other words they can meet the minimum criteria to be a sin (3000 pl). Giants are hired by humans as a surefire way to win their wars which speaks pretty badly about human strength as well.

Adding escanor to the mix does not really help the human situation. Escanor is an unique existence which as far as the manga has told cannot be replicated. His power is something he was literally born with. It is not something that can be acquired by training as far as we know. So escanor is human but at the same time he is an entirely different deal from any other human. So while he is probably the strongest guy in the manga at his peak he does not necessarily turn the tide in favor of humans.

Then of course you have the humans who are shown as exceptionally powerful. You have gil, hauser, hendrickson, dreyfus, and a few others who also have strength which can be considered at the GHK class. The first thing to consider here is that PL wise each and every one of them is essentially worthless. Hauser and gil increased their PL by a solid 25% during their training and they still would get easily defeated by mel as he was when the manga started. Maybe the increase would be enough so that the two of them combined would have a small chance. Although vivian, hendricksen and gil failed so odds would not be on their favor.

Now, there is the last factor to consider here and that is pretty much the peacetime thing where all races in britania safe for demons grew weaker. Giants didn't have proper enemies to fight, fairies grew lazy and complacent and human warfare was not enough to keep britania knights at their old strength level. The issue would be what the maximum human potential is, how strong their most talented can become through training.

With giants they have kept the fight in their own way and they manage to retain some strength with matrona even being able to fight almost on part with severely crippled commandments which is commendable. So it is safe to put the upper strength of giants during peacetime at over 20k strength (even if only matrona is that strong). With the fairies we have king whose base strength is over 4k PL and apparently helbram who is comparable to a GHK. With humans it seems their upper strength seems to be at the most beneath the weakest sin, so at most at around 3000 when the manga started and even that is quite optimistic. Now, gil and hauser seemed to reach the 2400 mark which is an improvement and dreyfus presumably increased his power as well. Still, being optimistic they reached the 3000 mark.

So with that in mind in current times the strongest giant is around 20 to 15 times as the strongest humans and about 4 to 5 times stronger than the strongest fairy. At least based on the specific cases we have seen. Now, I don't mean to suggest giants are necessarily stronger than fairies as a whole, we have to consider giants kept fighting however they could while fairies literally devolved. Considering the fairies can draw power from the sacred tree and have their own innate magic powers it wouldn't even be weird if the strongest fairy was stronger than the strongest giant in general.

All considered, it is plausible humans can become insanely stronger than they are now however at least right now the evidence does seem to suggest that on average the strength of every race is superior to that of humans, by a decent margin. If anything the average here has to ignore 99% of humans (the ones without powers) for them to even register at all. Whereas you don't really have to do that with other races considering each and every one of their members is a magical being in nature.

Well, all the Sins are the elite of their respective races and I don't think he's stronger than some of the Commandments even at his peak but he probably won't need to train the same way as his companions for the rest of the series. He considers himself at the peak of human evolution so he's a special Human, all the strongest Humans with the potential to rival the Sins are like that, Ban is no more from this race and Arthur is some kind of hero chosen by fate. Humans in general are average and don't have any other special abilities besides Magic, I consider them as the weakest race.

I don't think it will happen so soon, he hasn't done something really significant to unlock his ability. He was supposed to train with Mel.
However if he's supposed to be stronger than all the sins, then I'm curious what kind of ability he could have. It could be something that even surpasses sunshine, or it could be something else entirely. Maybe a deus ex machina type of ability.

Btw I'm not sure this is the right place to discuss this, since it's not so much about Escanor, but about Arthur.

This. Please discuss Escanor-related topics here. You could always make another thread for Arthur and other characters.

Thanks.

Am I the only one who thinks he would have been better with black, gray or white hair? Day Escanor is fine with but Night Escanor looks horrible IMO.

He would have definitely been better as a light blond. I actually drew him once like that. But I'm also under the impression that in that panel the colors are a bit darker than they should be since it's supposed to be night time. Just compare Jericho and even Elaine's hair to other pictures, the shade is a bit darker.
So maybe his hair is of a lighter shade during the day.
