Well, if Escalin doesn't happen... here's hoping for some sort of other romantic relationship with Escanor and someone else. I mean, i don't know of any other person who could be the 2nd person in this relationship at all! ;)
You already know my personal thoughts on the matter and how if Escalin doesn't work out, that i have a second pairing with him in mind which is pretty cool. I do wonder about this Rhitta though and if something to do with Escanor's power 3000 years ago, revolves around her... could the original holder of this person have loved Rhitta and is that why Rhitta is a maiden loved by the sun? Regardless of theories, we will likely find out more about her at some given point in time, however, i do wonder what her role will be in the plot, for the actual person the ST is named after.

As for the mustache it'd be great if they spoke about it and she was like "I'm don't like the mustache!" and he replied with "Well it is My mustache and i'll thank you to remember whose face it is on and who has the only say of whether or not it goes!"

Ps: Remember how Denzel's sword had a peculiar reflection in it in chapter 154? Could that be Rosa by chance? Or perhaps Rhitta?
Yeah I know who you mean. :hurr

The reflection in Denzel's sword is most likely the invisible fairy that Deathpierce has with him.And what Gray Lord sensed was all those tools they developed to attack the demons, prolly.

I hope the mustache stays but I would have loved it even more if Nakaba had shown us the Escanor with long hair and beard like in that page spread at the start of part two of the manga. Maybe we will see that in some way yet but I hope not as part of a silly noon transformation. That entire trope of people growing longer hair or whatever when they get their special power-up is so overdone that it is all but a meme. Escanor should maintain his otherwise human nature for as long as possible, he is enough a genetic freak as it is. In fact all of the Sins are.
If you haven't read Kongo Bancho, Suzuki's previous work you prolly don't know who Escanor's design is based on. It's based of Masamune Gokurou

And even young he looks a great deal like Escanor

While I do like the "old man" design, and it would have been very interesting to have such a figure in the Sins, someone who would be wise,I just don't see it happening at this point. And really Escanor turned out to be more wise than we originally expected, regardless of whether he's really an old man.

Kongou Banchou was the second manga I read from him, so I am fully aware. I was actually going to post about this at some point but you spared me the effort :P

Yeah, the similarities are pretty obvious. There are several instances in this manga where Nakaba borrowed from his own earlier works with designs.

No, manga's logic right there. Just like Meliodas had the time to crush Galan and talk to Zeldris in 10 seconds. Don't overthink that.

Yeah he borrowed from Rising impact too, it's interesting to go back and read his previous works.

Yep, it's just manga logic, though I noticed that he can jump pretty high, even when he was around noon and left Ban and the others. Could be because of his highly developed muscles.

Well, the only thing is the figure looks different to the fairy we see, also she was out scouting for Death Pierce so she would not have been there until after the events took place. So, yeah... im wondering who this mysterious woman is as this will likely be a person that appears later on with plot relevance that Nakaba has foreshadowed the existence of.
I'm betting on either a powerful witch (Morgan Le Faye) or perhaps a goddess (Rhitta or maybe Rosa?)

Well according to the dialogue, Escanor only had a few seconds of this transformation, so assuming that is the case he likely did all this in under a minute!
Plus, he was falling when he swung the axe, so it is likely a combination of anime/manga logic and him doing all this in a very fast amount of time.
I mean... if he could levitate he would be way more OP, because that means he can fly, but, that would make sense considering he could have learnt from Merlin.

I do love how Escanor is essentially Masamune Gokurou's design with Kongou Banchou's body!
Also, Nakaba made Matrona's belt Kongou Banchou's face!
Shipping intensifies :toc

And yeah, i think it would be an insult to Escanor if we thought he could not jump like this!
After all, Galan who jumped from Edinburgh to Camelot in 72 "steps", powered himself up to about twice the physical strength and still only cut the dude.
Escanor's body is likely capable of performing Saitama style feats, to be honest! :XD

What kind of inherent magic do humans have?

All the races have something in common with their magic, that makes it easily identifiable.

Giants manipulate earth.

Fairies all draw their magic from the tree.

Goddess use holy magic.

Demons use the black energy.

So what do humans have?

Because so far humans all seem to have their own individual abilities, which would mean Escanor's ability isn't weird, because he is human(ignoring the natural insane power boost he gets, increased size, and personality shift).

So what exactly is the link between the magic of all humans that escanor doesn't have which led her to say that his sunshine ability has no connections to the 5 major clans?

Mera confirms that there was no human with Escanor's power 3000 years ago, so it could be that while humans have their own abilities they aren't as unique as controlling the earth or nature of having druid healing powers and finally having demonic power.
It might be that several humans shared similar abilities in the past, for example 3000 years ago there was a guy who could manipulate thunder like Gilthunder now, and another could manipulate ice or fire or wind or water. And if you look at mages like Gilfrost he uses ice magic, which has the same element as Gustav's (Jericho's brother).
And now you see some humans with those abilities. But Escanor is unique, there was no human before him with that power, and no other clan has a similar power since they have their own (earth nature yaddy yadda).
It is also to stress out how his power is potentially stronger than every other ability from the other races, it was even likened to the purgatory flame which the demons possess.

So to put it simply it is a unique power that no one had before him, and no other clan has some technique like that that would explain how Escanor got it, like he inherited it because he is somehow related to the Goddess clan. At least as far as we know.

I first thought they have an affinity for elemental magic since there are so many with fire, wind, water/ice based magics, but that was proven wrong by the more metal magic abilities like altering stats or moving you through space via teleportation. Humans probably don't have a fixed magic type, while they are the physically weakest and short-lived species overall, they have the most magical diversity and have access to all magic types.

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

Maybe it's just the sheer raw power that it provides him with that makes Merlin unable to classify it as a human ability?

The demon clan is the strongest clan, and the humans are the weakest yet escanor is presumably around the same level as the strongest member of the demon clan(Estarossa).

Mera also seemed to be in disbelief, that any human could be as strong as escanor too, once she ate his soul, and could feel his real power.

Maybe sunshine is just too strong to be classified as a a human ability?

I once had a theory that Sunshine was a fragment of the magical power the clans were fighting over 3000 years ago that seemingly lies within all living things.
If fits the bill as life magic, it would be insanely strong for the Demon King to want it and it would explain why it is unique.

Now, he would not have all of the magical power at his disposal, but, a portion of at max half of it could be possible?
I don't know, it's just a theory but it does explain his insanely power ability!

Interesting but I'd also hate it because it degrades Escanor's whole character to McGuffin-status since it's a major part of his personality and linked to his transformation. It would certainly give him importance in this series but him being the plot driver because he holds a fraction of this power is so.... ugh.

Well regardless of whether or not his theory turns out to be true, I think escanor will probably end up being an important part of the story.

Nakaba must have had some reason to withhold him from the main story for as long as he did other than the fact that escanor could have carried the team through the entire first arc of the story without difficulty, and kill demon Hendrickson by standing next to him.

That was my conclusion too at first, but it doesn't quite fit. If Mera never saw someone with Escanor's power in before, then the nature of his own power is unique. So if it was the source of power from 3000 years ago then shouldn't be able to recognize it?

Plus there's also the question of how he would even end up with some of it in the first place considering the war was 3000 years ago, and he's 40.

There's no way he has a connection to something that happened that long ago.

Yep why would it appear so late, if it had been "crystallized" in some way and was just out there, with no one keeping an eye on it, then how come no one got that power before him?

It's an interesting theory, but imo it can only work if it was the Goddesses who bestowed that power on him, however it begs the question why would they give the last remnant of the source of power to a human? Why not using it themselves since they have lost their bodies?

Either way I think there is a Goddess connection with Rhitta, Rosa and possibly Merlin too. It might really be that the Goddesses have in some way intervened in his conception and he was given this power, perhaps as a way to counter the demons if they're ever released. Although I would prefer if they weren't involved, but he got his power thanks to evolution. Maybe he is the most evolved human, and he has the purest and most concentrated part of the power that was once flowing through all of Britannia.

Well, she does make an unfinished statement as she us being incinerated, something to do with impossibility and "this much power"!
Maybe she has figured out by now, who knows?
But, regardless... The theory is highly based on assumptions, so we'll just have to see the nature of his power when it arises as a main topic.
I really do think Escanor's role in the series is going to be very important!

I assume she did that because usually a soul is not supposed to generate this much power and heat.

Escanor is most likely a very unique case, not just because of how his body changes but also because of Sunshine. I'd prefer if it is his power alone.

But it clearly most likely isn't.

That's one of the mysteries surrounding it that interests Merlin so much.

Exactly what is the origin of sunshine that has no connections to any race she can identify? Not to mention that it's repeatedly referred to as a curse, and normally someone else has to cast a curse on you for you to get one.

It's not a human ability, and he is human, so it makes no sense for him to have it.

The only way this ability can still end up being his is if he's a modified human in some way, or his parents that we were shown aren't his real parents and he's half human and half something else that nobody can identify.

But it is unique since no other clan has it. It was compared to the purgatory flame but it's very different in nature maybe even opposites. One is the power of darkness and the other is the power of the sun.
And no other human had this power before Escanor either so he's unique.

It's pretty straightforward the only thing we don't know is how he came to possess such power and it might really be that he didn't get it from someone and it's just his genetical make up that allowed it.
