Well like I said, the mode allows him to regulate it better. We've seen that he can damage his entire arm if he uses too much of that power
Now the damage likely won't be as severe as that, but it could still occur.

Also like I said, he was amping himself with that ancient magic that Erigor was talking about. It's not as if Natsu can generate that kind of heat whenever he wants to; he has to get emotional enough to subconsciously activate that magic. As for dragon Force, like you said, he's physically tougher in that form, so he can pour in more power without having to worry so much about his body being damaged(his body might also be able to naturally handle the heat better, due to it being more like a fire dragon's, but I don't have anything from the manga to prove this to be the case).

Well DF Natsu could easily burn through Zeref's weird tentacle attack, while base Natsu was struggling greatly to overcome it, so that could be proof of DF also amping his flames' temp.

But if Natsu can use the flames in his base without the mode, and if his flames are as strong in base as they are with the mode, then entering the mode did nothing other than deplete his magic faster. Natsu may be dumb, but I don't think he's that dumb.:)

Well I don't know what to tell ya man. Erigor outright says in that scan that Natsu was using Ancient magic. Also, I agree that it's not a mode (or at least, not like any of his other modes);. I see it as sorta like Kaioken. He's briefly augmenting his power in his base form to a great degree and can probably stack this magic on top of his actual modes if he tried (although I don't really have evidence from the manga regarding this, too)
Are you saying that Natsu wouldn't have burned his own arm if he was in FDK mode? Assuming that's the case, wouldn't that mean FDK mode increases Natsu's physical heat resistance?

Natsu is indeed using an ancient magic. Dragon Slaying magic is an ancient magic. Ancient magic is just a term used to describe any magic that came from 400 years ago. All lost magics are ancient magics. Stuff like Rufus' act of burning earth is also an ancient magic. So it's....not really that special to have ancient magic. Natsu gets more powerful the more emotional he gets all the time. Practically in every single one of his series fights. He doesn't have to be pushed to his absolute limits to do it.

There is really no such thing as a "base FDK attack". I don't even know how this thing got started. An FDK attack is performed with FDK flames, and FDK flames are different from his basic flames. So what is "base mode FDK" even supposed to mean? When Natsu uses a mode, he's generally releasing a bunch of power around himself. He could use that power however he wants to fight. It's not a matter of being dumb or not. It's just what we see physically happen whenever Natsu enters a mode. If you want to say that the modes make Natsu stronger, then one of these things has to happen:
  • Either the mode grants Natsu a new type of flame that is superior to the regular FDK flames.
  • Or the mode increases Natsu's physical capabilities.
  • Or the mode increases Natsu's magical capacity and he has more power to work with.
If you deny all 3 possibilities, then there's simply no way for the mode to be a power-boost. It's absurdly redundant for there to be a difference between the flames produced by the mode and the spell. It's not implied anywhere that the modes give Natsu physical enhancements. I personally don't have a problem with saying the mode increases Natsu's magical capacity, but apparently this is the one avenue in which people think isn't the case.

People here are suggesting that Jacob has higher durability than Madmole. That means Natsu wouldn't even scratch Jacob without the mode using FDK spells. This is an absurd leap in power. So until someone explains to me where all this is extra power is coming from, it sounds like an awfully convenient excuse to keep Jacob relevant. I've yet to hear an convincing model for how the mode boosts Natsu's power, let alone sufficient reason to believe it's the case.

It is simply flames that have exceeded Natsu's heat tolerance, which is visible with what happened when Time was distorted. which you are again wrong, which is described as Savage Flames or Savage Dragon Flames. it doesn't matter, when something demonstrated a unique or deviation from the normal that means it is something different, especially when the flames breaks the laws of physics. when they peak, they do not burn him, when they go overboard (in this case, adding everyone else feelings), then it burns him, which adds reality warping, that is how going over the limits works.
Sorry, but I don't even understand your point. Why does exceeding Natsu's heat tolerance prove that creating these flames are beyond Natsu's limits? These flames aren't beyond Natsu's limits because Natsu can use them without any outside help. All he needs is to be worked into the right emotional state.

@Axiomus thats because POF natsu Is the strongest natsu of all no other power ups is stronger or else ur saying that base natsu with fdk flames>Ig powered natsu and DF also FF POF natsu> ToH DF natsu according to ur logic
Indeed, POF Natsu is the strongest version of Natsu. That's exactly the case.

Well, almost. Ignia's flames made Natsu the strongest he's ever been. Ignia's powers gave him all the benefits of "savage flames" without necessarily burning his own arm so long as he maintained the dragon force. But even then, Natsu was amped up on POF when he fought with Ignia's flames so who knows?

Because if flames are at max heat like you claim, then it would not burn him, if exceeding the limit then it does burn him, it is simple. Why does exceeding heat limit mean he can’t use it? That makes no sense, Because he simply cannot go that hot again because he burned too much. That by definition means he exceeded his limits of heat with his emotions and the guild’s

So you’re not even gonna bother to address your blatant hypocrisy and bias. Lol okay. Moving on.
I would not be able to change your opinion as you've apparently convinced yourself that that is the case, so it's kinda pointless, no?

What? That’s stupid. Yes, defeating no names fodders are feats but they are casual feats that make no difference. I’m pretty sure both Wendy and freaking Gildarts can both knock out unnamed fodder just fine.
Casual feats still require MP, no? It's like you're grasping at straws now. It's just the amount of how much they produce, but they produce it nonetheless. You're simply going out of your way to appeal to extremes to prove some point that you have obviously swayed away from.

He explicitly nerfed himself. He knew he was fighting someone yet he closed his eyes anyway. You don’t do that unless you’re underestimating you’re opponent or overestimating yourself. Because why would a weaker person deliberately handicap themselves against someone that’s way stronger than him? That doesn’t apply to Jacob. He thought he was strong enough to win even with eyes closed or he thought Mira was too weak to defeat him even if his eyes were closed. Or probably both. But he was wrong and he lost to a weakened Mira.
It is not a handicap he wanted to impose upon himself, but one that he had to, otherwise, he would be fighting way worse.

I don't understand why you keep repeating this.
Did he nerf himself by closing his eyes? Yes.
Was it something necessary in order to fight off as well as he could in that particular scenario? Yes.
Can Jacob closing his eyes mid battle be considered stupid? Yes.
Does it make Mirajane lucky? Yes, as she already has said so.
Does this also mean Jacob was underestimating Mirajane? Not in this particular scenario, no.
Could Jacob actually fight with his eyes open against an exposed woman? All evidences point to no. .

Yes he can as he has a technique for that and he could even hit Mira, there is no reason he cannot since his magic allows him to see the unseen. Well Mira was lucky mostly just because of jacob’s handicap while she managed to hit back portions of her power

Who says the limits of Natsu's flames are determined by whether or not those flames can burn him? Just because Natsu is burned by his own flames doesn't mean that he can't create those flames. Natsu can create flames he used against Zeref to burn time without an outside power-source. If he can create them without a power-up, they are within his limits.

I assume the damage wouldn't have been as severe. Again, what I'm suggesting is that Natsu can better regulate or control his fdk flames in that mode, sorta like how he can somewhat prevent certain individuals from burning when he flexes his heat (like how he didn't burn Happy when he made his GMG entrance). So in FDK mode, he could maybe prevent the heat from affecting him as much as it would in his base, allowing him to use more of that flame at a "safe" level, without it damaging him.

Natsu is indeed using an ancient magic. Dragon Slaying magic is an ancient magic. Ancient magic is just a term used to describe any magic that came from 400 years ago. So while he has his regular POF boost, this seems to be something entirely different that can actually generate magic power and amp his flames to a massive degree.

He entered the mode just to throw a simple punch, something he can and did do in base (against the army leading up to Zeref). He also planned on following that punch up with another one; one that he was sure was going to kill Zeref. So if he just planned on punching Zeref after activating FDKM, then the only purpose of him doing that was to literally burn through his magic supply for no reason (assuming FDKM isn't a powerup).

If you want to say that the modes make Natsu stronger, then one of these things has to happen:

Well for all we know, Madmole can withstand an FDK attack in the mode, or Natsu was still too close to his friends to safely use it. Also, it's been a year since the Alverez arc and Natsu could've grown stronger in that time, so maybe he felt that he could handle Madmole in his base (not knowing how high Madmole's defense is)

Because his flames burns him, that is proof enough that he has a limit, he even stated that he burned a bit much. That is what I have been saying, just because the heat is too much at some point doesn’t mean he can’t make them. Whether or not he uses a power up is pointless, he can exceed the limits of his heat but it burns him, that is why it is savage, uncontrollable, unrestrained.

It's not seeing her in the relative sense, it's sensing her movement that he was that he was doing. Not exactly the same as fighting with his eyes open and fighting that way, in which he would be exposed to what he exclaims as a 'vulgar' appearance.

Not exactly sure if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me, just wanted to make that clear.

Who are the top strongest 10 girl in Fairy Tail?

My opinion
1. Irene
2. Dimaria
3. Brandish
4. Erza
5. Kyria
6. Kagura
7. Mirajane
8. Kyoka
9. Sayla
10. Wendy
Why are Sayla and Kyouka even there at all? Not to mention, placed above Wendy, Lucy and Juvia?

Seilah and Kyouka are definitely still stronger than Juvia who hasn’t had a feat in years lol. I don’t see Lucy or Wendy beating them either lol? Tartaros wasn’t that long ago. They haven’t been powercrept yet. I mean Juvia ahead of Kyouka? Unless you think Juvia would be able to give Tartaros Erza a high difficulty fight?

That’s hilarious. You think so highly of Juvia’s ability that you thinks she’s stronger than the strongest 9D gates with her featless self yet you don’t think Mira, who defeated a Spriggan is strong. Weird. I guess it’s about favouritism and not feats, probably explains why you tried to make Kagura look better and Mira look worse.

I mean, sure. It would be kinda pointless for you to address your bias, hypocrisy and flaws in your argument.

It doesn’t matter if it requires MP. What even is your point about the fodders? Okay, it requires MP to take fodder out. So what? Is that somehow impressive that the character defeated no name fodder? Defeating fodder has never and will never be impressive.

If he didn’t want to fight, he could’ve simply chose not. We saw Brandish decide multiple times that she wasn’t going to fight because she didn’t want to. Jacob still decided that it was ok to fight Mira with his eyes closed, therefore showing to some degree how highly he thinks of his ability.

I don’t know why I have to repeat myself either. A weakened Mira defeated nerfed Jacob, a Spriggan. She beat him after everything that was thrown at her. That shows her strength. She defeated a Spriggan in canon. Everyone needs to stop underestimating her.

Okay, but how does stopping his FDK flames from burning him make his attacks stronger? What's the difference between an FDK spell in the mode and an FDK spell without the mode then? Natsu can still pour the same amount of power into either, the only difference now is that if he forgets to use the mode he burns himself if he uses a strong enough flame. Natsu's not using flames that would burn himself anyways against Jacob.

It's not like Natsu ever learned a type of fire magic other than what he learned from Igneel. His emotional flames is just part of his dragon slaying magic, and Natsu frequently gains power from being more emotional. Again, in pretty much all his fights.

He entered the mode so that he can throw a punch with FDK flames. He didn't use FDK flames to punch Zeref's army. He didn't plan on a second punch. He had to throw a second punch because Zeref tanked the first one. Not really relevant. The purpose of entering FDK mode is to release FDK flames. Natsu then gathered the flames to punch Zeref with.

He cannot be that strong again unless he achieves Savage Flames, the difference is the mode makes him stronger, and standard FDK spell is not, the Savage Flames lets him have reality warping via breaking the laws of physics. It is not a matter of quantity, it is quality. In his fight with Zeref was different since standard heat would not help him influence a factor of reality itself. That was with Igneel’s fire which supposedly ignores immortality.

The act of preventing damage itself doesn't make his attacks stronger, but it does allow him to use more power without hurting himself. Imagine that Natsu's Demolition fist in base is close to the threshold that his body can withstand without straining/burning itself. FDKM would allow him to handle that same amount of FDK power much more comfortably, which means that he can then add more power in his attack without breaking his body (at least until he reaches his threshold in FDKM)

Maybe the magic comes with the package when you use fire dragon magic. Or maybe Natsu meets a hidden requirement to activate the magic (through his personality or something), or maybe Zeref just installed it when he remade Natsu and forgot about it. Who knows, but the point is that it was treated as a specific ability separate from the usual friendship boost that's in the manga, since it was specifically given a name.

Well the size and visual similarity would suggest that it was FDK flames. He also used FDK flames in base to punch out an Enchanted Neinhart (unless you believe he did that with his regular fire) and logic would dictate that if he can draw out FDK flames into an FDK spell without entering the mode, then he would be able to do the same with just regular punches

Savage Flame is like Gohan using his Ultimate mode. Technically it's base Gohan, but we think of it as a mode due to base Gohan being not up to par with things like SSJ+ level beings yet Ultimate form makes all his other forms useless as he can reach 100% of his power without the strain of forms. That's what I see SF as. It's technically base but it's also a different form since he can only obtain that power at his strongest point.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

FDKM is like gear shifting for Natsu. Sure he can use FDK in base but there's a limit while in FDKM that limit gets shifted and he has access to a stronger variant of his FDK powers while using it. The mode wouldn't exist if his FDK powers in base and FDKM were the same.

Even if you say that FDK mode protects him from his own flames if he uses too much power, Natsu really only burns himself when he's operating at peak emotion. He's not even close to that level fighting Jacob. So unless you're saying the flames he used against Jacob would have burnt him if not for the mode, there's no reason it should be that much different from his regular FDK attacks. It certainly shouldn't be to the point where Jacob can tank multiple FDK spells outside of the mode, but get burnt up in the mere presence of the mode.

I guess? But so long as Natsu can get more powerful the more emotional he becomes, and he does this a lot, the greatest factor in determining how strong Natsu's attack is always going to be his emotional state.

Natsu wasn't using FDK the punch the Alvarez army, though he did use an FDK roar. He also didn't use FDK to hit Neinhart. That was just a punch. I'm not sure this is debatable. Wait, hold on.....Are you implying that Natsu can use FDK flames without using an FDK spell or mode?

Well Jacob was wailing on him with presumably his full fighting power, so maybe Natsu entered his mode to assert dominance lol. He also could've maybe used it to better control his power so as to not outright kill Jacob ('cause Natsu only really cares about the lives of non-fodder soldiers, plus keeping him as a prisoner of war could have been useful to the guild, or else he would've just killed Jacob while he was out cold)

Well Yeah, his emotional state does determine his power; It's just that he needs an extra "oomph" in order to activate his emotional flames, which really makes a massive difference in his power, and that oomph likely isn't so easy to get, or else we would see it more often.

Are you implying that he oneshotted a Neinhart that was enchanted by Irene with just his ordinary fire? Even though he had the standard delay before punching him that he has when he usually uses FDK spells and moves, along with the massive amounts of large flames?

To be honest, Natsu doesn't have to say anything when he's casting a spell or entering a mode, he can just keep quite and do it, I mean, it's not as if "Fire Dragon King's Demolition Fist!" is some sort of ancient incantation that needs to be said to activate the spell, same for the mode. Just like how Goku doesn't have to chant Kamehameha in order to fire the energy wave. It's just done to
seperate it from the generic fire punches, to signify that this specific fire punch is stronger than the average nameless punches, and because it's way cooler to have a named technique.

Anyways, it's getting kinda late where I'm at, and I'm not really too interested in continuing this debate, so I'm clocking out. You can have the last word if you want.

What is Natsu? A car? How exactly is FDK mode making Natsu's FDK spells stronger?

He used FDK Demo on fodder and you really think he's using more power on fodder then named adversaries?

C'mon, you get the analogy. He shifts limiters to get stronger through his modes. Just like Goku does when he uses SJJ-SSGSS+.

But he did go all the way, he said he cannot afford to hold back before the battle and will do anything to win. He even killed a god with standard Punch, no reason to hold back now

This wasn't in the fight leading up to Zeref. This was during the next day. I'm fairly sure the moment Shoutman and I are talking about is this one:

But yes, that demolition fist used against the fodders is stronger than any of the non-FDK attacks Natsu used.

I agree on it being a dominance thing. He released some flames to help burn Jacob before hitting him demolition fist. If he's using it to get better control so as to not hurt Jacob. Well then....the mode isn't really being used to make FDK attacks stronger.

I am suggesting that Natsu beat Neinhart with just his ordinary fire, yes. I don't understand what you mean by standard delay.

Well if you believe that every large attack that Natsu uses is an FDK spell, I don't really have much to say.
