It's a massive stretch because you don't account for fundament reasons why those who bathe in flames all their lives -- Flame Dragons -- would be more special, more proficient & more potent than those who simply learn the flames -- August.
I'm not debating who is the better pyro here, I am debating who is more powerful overall.

You said Natsu was injured by August but I don't see any injuries on him at all. The fact that not a hair of his pals & future wife was hurt also disapproves this assertion.
He has clear strain marks all over his person, they aren't deep wounds but they are injury nevertheless, even Natsu himself admits to not being able to negate all of the damage. Same goes for his pals and future wife, he offsetted the flames for all of them, similarly to how he did when Tempesta used that fire technique on Juvia and Gajeel.

Finally, you mentioned Dragon Slayer's vs Dragons. I don't think much needs to be said about this other than Dragon Slayer's inherently having an advantage over Dragons.
They only have an advantage over dragons if you believe dragons have an advantage over dragons.

Kotsh and Ice trail are both cannon. You need to do your research bud. And dude you're making sh*t up.
Hiro dabbled in KOTSS but its filler. He did not write the story and everything that goes to happen in the arc, he simply gave a basic outline to them. The feats that transpired in that arc (ie Halphas and everything else) are filler, some story points and a few character designs hiro might have pulled out from it and canonized, but its to be considered filler otherwise. This applies for many filler arcs/movies in many adapted manga. Not really sure on Ice Trail, it most certainly wasn't drawn by Hiro, do you have any evidence that Hiro wrote the story for it?

The last punch showcased Gildarts speed. After destroying his black hole, he was already several meters back. He was so fast his arm was already under his jaw. That punch was strong enough to divide the clouds and stop the storm on tenro.
Bluenote was standing there surprised that his strongest attack was just destroyed, Gildarts took that and sent him flying. This "blitz" ain't much different then the "blitzes" that Sting and Rogue had against Natsu and Gajeel. Under normal circumstances we saw that they were fighting on par in CQC, Gildarts wasn't blitzing anyone. And you can't make the argument that he did not want to because he was most certainly bloodlusted. The move was as powerful as current Natsus basic roar at best (both took out Bluenote, although Bluenote was much more battle worn against Gildarts). The difference(s) here are that firstly, Natsus roar is far more efficient seeing as how it has a huge AoE and can be used at long range whereas Gildarts needs to get in point blank to land his attack and secondly, Hoja Kensei Itten is Gildarts strongest shown move whereas Natsus basic roar is just that, basic.

Gildarts blitz fodder but the fact that he can throw mountain busting punches is the reason why.
He doesn't casually throw mountain busting punches, his full powered attack can damage a mountain, but thats a full powered attack. Besides, that has nothing to do with his speed which you try to pass off as impressive.

A Mage on his level should be ready for anything. But that wasn't the case for him wasn't it? And Brandish has ZERO speed feats bud and he couldn't even react to that. Gildarts would blitz August, end of story bud.
Yeah, August wasn't ready for someone close to him to stab him, you just admitted that yourself, so how does her stabbing him while he's off guard bad for Augusts speed? If Cana goes in for a hug and stabs Gildarts instead he's not going to see that coming no matter how you spin it. When your guard is down your guard is down. Under battle conditions Augusts guard won't be down. Brandish was point blank and August was ready to go do negotiations, furthermore, Brandish is someone very close to him so of all people there, Augusts attention would certainly not be on her. At best his guard would be up against Natsu. I can't believe you are actually trying to pass this off as a legitimate argument.

Dude how can anyone take you serious when your pulling sh*t from your ass? Seriously.
SMH.

There is also the fact that Acnologia recognized Irene as someone powerful enough to converse with, whereas most others (including Gildarts) he considers insects not worth talking with. The first two are the official translations btw.

How that was compare to a mountain busting feat? Natsu negated the magic, do you even read official translations bud? Lol nice try.
He says he has negated it to some extent. Its far better then anything Gildarts has shown.

Oh that's why the next panel he was smiling. Totally blood lusted right? Yeah bud, get out of here.
The hell does the pacing of the Gildars/Natsu short have anything to do with it? The face he is making during the feat is what actually matters here.

That face at the bottom is just about the most bloodlusted face we have seen in this manga. He is so angry his damn veins are popping. We even have a panel dedicated to showing him charging up his power in his arm. This dishonesty game you are playing at is only making you look bad, furthered by how rude you are.

Gildarts said it happened in a flash. Irene is protected by plot, she wouldn't been ripped in half by now. And the fact that Gildarts survived that showcased his durability.
Irene held her own against Acnologia, those are FEATS. You could blame the plot all you like, it won't change what happened. The fact that Acnologia shoved Gildarts away like an insect shows little in ways of durability, his body got destroyed, at best it shows great endurance.

Um idk what book you're reading but Crash busted a mountain and the user wasn't trying. August' spell wasn't mountain level and Gildarts can't break that? Lol bud.
Do you have proof that he wasn't trying? Because his face most certainly indicated that he was trying. Augusts spell was quite clearly above mountain level. The blast itself was perfectly visible to the guild, and the guild was so far away from that location that the crew rode on a giant happy, who has shown to be extremely fast. You could see mountain ranges in front of it. I touched on the rest above.

MY GOD people. Please.......... This debate over Gildarts has been going on WAY too many times and way too long.
I don't even feel like this is a good place to discuss about him, this is an Alvarez Arc thread and Gildarts didn't even appear yet...

If you want to repeat the same arguments that we've been reading for decades, at the very least do it in the Gildarts thread :P

Well I mean to be fair, the original argument was that Gildarts was above August, so I guess it's kinda relevant. It's pretty borderline though

Honestly i don't even know what there is to discuss with Gildarts. as of right now his best feats are beating Bluenote mid diff at best, and being more powerful than Tartaros Natsu. I mean you can twist it any way you want but that is all he has. He has not been in the last 2 major arcs not including this one, and it has literally been 8 in manga years since he has fought in any meaningful way. Therefore his portrayal means nothing at this point. Natsu has grown powerful enough to one shot his beast feat(Bluenote). I wish Mashima had not inflated the power levels so much, but he did and as such trying to make Gildarts seem like he is still one of the elites is foolhardy right now. He probably will come back and make an impact, but saying his current feats place him on par with the normal Spriggans, much less August and Irene is ridiculous imo.

We all like Glidartz that's rather clear, I wonder why we're still arguing over the same topic over and over again.

Glidartz is currently featless. The Glidartz we know has shown nothing that puts him anywhere near August. August hasn't shown much but what has shown IMO already puts him above Glidartz + current Glidartz is featless and current August is almost featless so why bother arguing on this?

If/when Glidartz comes back, we'll know.

Go ahead @Takuan rek these fools...
Jk jk though although a little savagery once in a while is welcome:p
I'm still holding out that Gildarts vs August will happen, but the end result will be Gildarts losing, because let's face it people Gildarts at best should be mid Spriggan level right now (on Laxus's level) that is if he was keeping in shape, but August and Eileen?Too powerful for him..
It would be a different story if he decided to put the moves on Eileen though:cheez Can't let all that booty be hogged by Acnologia lol:derp

Haha was I too rude? I'm sorry :P

Yeah i don't think Gildarts would win against Irene or August. Well let's be real, i don't think anyone can 1v1 either of them.
I'm really hoping he'll appear though :wtf

This is anime filler bro, are you serious?

Dude was having trouble with Bluenote, if Hiro wanted him around he would have had him around. He's definitely not OP.

More like a small village. That's what it means to not have control over your power.

Bro, Ice Trail is ALSO not canon. Seriously.

Absolutely not. Even Jet has been shown to blitz fodder, you absolutely CANNOT use blitzing fodder as a measuring stick for how fast Gildarts is.

Damaged would be a better word. And he was most certainly trying, he was downright bloodlusted.

Bluenote was still putting up a fight both before and after Gildarts magic was stripped away.

Natsu destroyed Bluenote in every sense of the word. Not debatable.

Augusts spell was far grander then a mountain, it was so grand that despite being a fire-type attack Natsu did not come out of it completely unharmed. Someone who has immense resistance to fire. Crash ain't doing shit.

Your feats are non-canon and filler and performed on fodder on top of it. Not valid at all. Brandish stabbed an August that was completely caught off-guard from point blank range, the evidence you are using here is simply not valid to put it in light terms my friend.

Nah mate, even Bluenote reacted to these lightning fast punches you speak of. Irene was tango'ing with Acnologia himself, please stop.

Gildarts magic power is an absolute and utter joke compared to that of August and Irene. Heck, its an absolute and utter joke compared to any of the regular Spriggan. Have we seriously forgotten that Natsu has jumped dimensions in power since he was last scared of Gildarts MP? Him being frightened of Brandishes and Augusts MP NOW is FAR FAR FAR more impressive then him being scared shitless of Gildarts MP BACK ON TENROU. Stop it. Furthermore we have characters like Mira downright crying in the presence of August/Irene, saying their MP defies reason.

Also, the reason people are acting like August and Irene are light years above the other Spriggan is because they are. And it hasn't came from a single source either. Mest, Natsu, Mirajane, Makarov, Brandish, Zeref and even Acnologia have acknowledged just how powerful these characters are. The fact that you are trying to drive home that GILDARTS of all power is above them does surprise, alas, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I'm simply contesting the poor evidence presented.
Ice Trail is actually canon. It was fully endorsed by Mashima, and he supervised it.

an attack seen from on mountain is entirely different than it being as large as a mountain.

Forest fires can be seen on mountain, that doesn't mean it's as big as it.
http://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/489/7
That attack isn't even comparable to Gildarts casual mountain busting feat.

Gildarts got angry, yes. But in the next panel is completely calm. On the other hand, August was pissed to the extremes. Gildarts was so strong, he busted a mountain and acted like nothing ever happened.

Natsu negated it because he is immune. Gildarts has magic to cancel out any spell Irene or August uses, no matter the size.

Crash busted a mountain, August wasn't even close to mountain level. Gildarts would simply negate that attack then with his flash like speed feats, throw mountain busting punches. Irene summoned a meteor, Gildarts would break that with ease.

You seem to forget that he has arguably the most broken magics in Fairy tail. And don't say "oh it's too big to negate"
The dude busted a mountain.

Natsu didn't allow Bluenotestingner to attack. He just went all out with a roar to finish him off, and I wouldn't call that a basic roar. He remember bluenotestinger as a treat.

First off a hug is completely different than standing in front of a person.
Brandish and Augusr had a foot of separation and was looking directly at her. So bringing up a hug where a persons face is completely opposite from the other is stupid.

You can't just assume August has speed feats just because he has a title. Panels show evidence, and if you seen Gildarts speed feats, you know August is getting blitz.

an attack seen from on mountain is entirely different than it being as large as a mountain.
Even a nuclear bomb will look tiny if it is observed from a certain distance away. Even a mountain range is far closer to the guild then the explosion, and they still saw it. And then we have the close-up:

Which is undeniably bigger then a mountain. We have similar rock structures to the one that Gildarts cracked right there next to the explosion. Either way, this has dragged, you can still hold on to Gildarts being the more impressive lol.

Gildarts got angry, yes. But in the next panel is completely calm. On the other hand, August was pissed to the extremes. Gildarts was so strong, he busted a mountain and acted like nothing ever happened.
I'm am completely ignoring everything that happened after because it is irrelevant. What matters is what his expression was during the moment in question, and it was undeniably bloodlusted. Thats all there is to it. August was also certainly pissed, but even he wasn't as pissed as Gildarts was at that moment. Gildarts was almost as shadowed out as him and Augusts skin is shadowed, plus that vein tho.

Natsu negated it because he is immune. Gildarts has magic to cancel out any spell Irene or August uses, no matter the size.
He says he negated it, and then follows up with most of it anyways. That means he did not negate all of it, he is not immune to fire, simply highly resistant to it. The latter is a blatant lie. Disassembly hasn't shown to have a big AoE.

Crash busted a mountain, August wasn't even close to mountain level. Gildarts would simply negate that attack then with his flash like speed feats, throw mountain busting punches. Irene summoned a meteor, Gildarts would break that with ease.
With all due respect this is just ranting bias. I'm not going to debate this. You can believe what you like.

You seem to forget that he has arguably the most broken magics in Fairy tail. And don't say "oh it's too big to negate"
The dude busted a mountain.
No he doesn't. His magic is just straight up raw power. That leaves room for defeat by anyone with more raw power then him or hax.

Natsu didn't allow Bluenotestingner to attack. He just went all out with a roar to finish him off, and I wouldn't call that a basic roar. He remember bluenotestinger as a treat.
I suggest you re-read what happened. Bluenote attacked Natsu, Natsu simply no-sold his attack with a simple flame punch. Bluenote then proceeds to charge in and get one-shotted. Whether he made a follow up attack or not wouldn't have changed the fact that he would have gotten one-shotted by that roar. Natsu did not go all out, Natsu using his FDK moves isn't even him going all-out (and his FDK moves are far stronger then that roar on Bluenote). When Natsu uses FDKM is when we can assume he is going all-out.

First off a hug is completely different than standing in front of a person.
Brandish and Augusr had a foot of separation and was looking directly at her. So bringing up a hug where a persons face is completely opposite from the other is stupid.
Makes little difference. If Cana is standing right in front of Gildarts and pulls out a sword, Gildarts isn't going to be putting his guard up against his daughter, especially if the actual enemies are behind them. If you are close to someone you aren't going to doubt them.

You can't just assume August has speed feats just because he has a title. Panels show evidence, and if you seen Gildarts speed feats, you know August is getting blitz.
Actually I can. If August is stated to be stronger then character A then I can rightfully assume that August wouldn't get blitzed and defeated by character A. August doesn't have any speed feats yet, but he doesn't need them because he is far stronger then characters who are stronger and faster then Gildarts.

Thanks for the hard work @Char! I have to respect the effort you put into bringing the community together to draft these rankings.

Now as for the rankings themselves

- lol at Gildartz being so high......he should be closer to Bluenote level.
- Wolfheim and Hyberion are extremely high, above even Gray and Gajeel. Do people think Gray and Gajeel together would get fodder-stomped by base Serena? >.>
- Sayla, who was beaten from one preskip Elfman attack is above current Gajeel, Future Rogue, Jura, Silver, Kyoka Etc, and that's absurd.
- Really dont get how Silver could be above Ur
Tartaros DeS Gray was still below his father (feat wise).
What on earth Char? Despite Gray being at a major disadvantage, that fight ended with Gray shooting a massive hole through Silver.......he was clearly the stronger of the two. Need I remind you that Silver was immune to Gray's magic and still lost?
Fire of the Fire Dragon King =/= Igneel's magical power. Natsu uses the same type of magic as Igneel does, so the type of fire he creates is the same as the type of fire Igneel creates. That's what his fire dragon king spells are, and Natsu can use FDK spells without Igneel's magical power. By the way, Natsu doesn't call Igneel's magical power "Igneel's fire" either. When Natsu was talkiing about Igneel's magical power, he uses the proper term for magical power, which is 魔力 (literally magic power).
Happy knew Natsu had Igneel's power. That doesn't mean Natsu ever used it.
Yep^
Natsu is comparable to a flame dragon king now it terms of the sheer power of his flames

I agree with Kay3795 regarding the topic about the GMG Dragons and August/Eileen.

I never understood how some believed August/Eileen can defeat a dragon, especially without Dragon Slayer Magic. Also, we shouldn't entirely base our claims off of past events (like the dragon slayers from 400 years ago being able to kill dragons). The problem with this type of "proof" is that it was briefly stated in the manga and there are too many extraneous variables that can come into play. For example, do we know for a fact that August/Eileen are stronger than those from 400 years ago? How about the difference in ethernano concentration? MP consumption rate?

With that said, let's use current feats. Last time I checked, a dragon's durability exceeds that of any race. It was to the point that the strongest wizards could barely scratch them (dragons slayers and non-dragon slayers). Now fast foward from the GMG Arc to the Alvarez Arc (1 year difference). As of right now, I don't see Natsu or Laxus being capable of slaying any dragon. I admit their AoE is impressive. But their attack potency is just average Spriggan Level... Granted, I know August/Eileen are a lot stronger, but neither are dragons slayers so they are already at a major disadvantage right there.

Talking about August and Eileen's durability, I can say with certainty that neither are impressive in any way. Remember August?

A dragon would be able to do the same by instantly gutting him. Sure, August eventually recovered but a dragon wouldn't just stand there and let him heal himself like Brandish did. Basically, a dragon's physiology is superior. The only way I can see them being taken down is if it is by another dragon or a strong mage with dragon slayer magic.

I won't even start with Eileen. Yes, I agree she is one of the strongest wizards throughout the series but she ran from Acnologia. Don't worry, I am fully aware the the GMG dragons are many times weaker but still... Running away tells us a lot.

Kotsh and Ice trail are both cannon. You need to do your research bud. And dude you're making sh*t up.
"Bluenote was reacting to Gildarts"

The last punch showcased Gildarts speed. After destroying his black hole, he was already several meters back. He was so fast his arm was already under his jaw. That punch was strong enough to divide the clouds and stop the storm on tenro.

"Jet blitz fodder"
Gildarts blitz fodder but the fact that he can throw mountain busting punches is the reason why.

"Brandish stabbed August by surprise"
A Mage on his level should be ready for anything. But that wasn't the case for him wasn't it? And Brandish has ZERO speed feats bud and he couldn't even react to that. Gildarts would blitz August, end of story bud.

Show me evidence where it says Irene and August are "far far stronger" than the rest. Well because I read it was a bit more.
http://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/487/6
Dude how can anyone take you serious when your pulling sh*t from your ass? Seriously.

"Natsu was hurt by his spell"
How that was compare to a mountain busting feat? Natsu negated the magic, do you even read official translations bud? Lol nice try.

"Gildarts was blood lusted"
Oh that's why the next panel he was smiling. Totally blood lusted right? Yeah bud, get out of here.

"Irene fought Acnologia"
Gildarts said it happened in a flash. Irene is protected by plot, she wouldn't been ripped in half by now. And the fact that Gildarts survived that showcased his durability.

"Crash isn't doing nothing anything"
Um idk what book you're reading but Crash busted a mountain and the user wasn't trying. August' spell wasn't mountain level and Gildarts can't break that? Lol bud.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Those rocks are not mountains. Are you joking?
http://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/487/6
The first panel shows those "mountains" you speak of lol.

Natsu is not mountain level. I already explain this bud Natsu used Igneels flames against the God of War. I'm not repeating myself so you have to find my post.

Natsus aura is FDKM level"" what does that even mean?

It seems you don't bother to read my post entirely. Lucy and Natsu and even Mest don't react to Brandish magical power anymore becsuse they simply been around her for so long. Gildarts has been seeing Mirajane since she was a girl.
Natsu's aura is Mountain level (vaporized Lake Scilliora).
I don't know why i have to debate this after chapter 479 Natsu can only use Igneel's power only once that too against Zeref.Everything was based on his own power. If you go against Canon manga facts. And i don't know where Mira stated Gildarts's strength defies logic even in her childhood .Can you show me that.

What on earth Char? Despite Gray being at a major disadvantage, that fight ended with Gray shooting a massive hole through Silver.......he was clearly the stronger of the two. Need I remind you that Silver was immune to Gray's magic and still lost?
Yep^
Natsu is comparable to a flame dragon king now it terms of the sheer power of his flames
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I very well could be, I haven't looked at the fight in a while), but didn't Gray win by sending a rock through Silver's chest? Gray only won by outsmarting Silver, that doesn't mean that as a wizard he's stronger than him. Not to mention the fact that Silver never intended to win in the first place.

August was stated to be the strongest mage past and present by Warrod. Take of that what you will, but August/Irene being below even the weakest dragon slayers from 400 years ago definitely makes little sense.

I'm sorry but the strongest wizard there was Jura and even current Jura couldn't give God Serena a single scratch. All the while, base GMG Wendy is capable of doing enough damage to Zirconis as to at least piss him off.

But their attack potency is just average Spriggan Level...
If base GMG Wendy can do some level of damage (even if its extremely small) to a dragon, then Laxuses/Natsus nukes (which are easily thousands of times more powerful then base GMG Wendys) are capable of slaying dragons.

Talking about August and Eileen's durability, I can say with certainty that neither are impressive in any way. Remember August?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, bringing this up is stupid. August wasnt on guard, this doesn't serve as a detriment to his speed nor his durability. As of now both are featless in durability, we could leave it at that. These kinds of arguments are borderline reaching.

A dragon would be able to do the same by instantly gutting him. Sure, August eventually recovered but a dragon wouldn't just stand there and let him heal himself like Brandish did. Basically, a dragon's physiology is superior. The only way I can see them being taken down is if it is by a dragon or a strong mage with dragon slayer magic.
Unless said dragon is a daughter figure to August and he's not prepared to fight that's unlikely lol.

Zirconis was scared to even utter his name. Compared to that, running away is tame, especially when Irene actually initially confronted Acnologia on her own accord.

I might not be reading the same translation as you, but this is what I saw...

"And behind him... is one who is called the king of all magic, near and far, old and new. August."

From my interpretation, Warrod is saying that August knows all forms of magic whether it is lost magic or new magic (like Eileen's Universe One). This is quite credible considering Makarov says the same thing when he says that August may know even more magic than Zeref himself. But for Warrod to say August is the strongest? I highly doubt it. That would probably be Zeref, excluding the dragons.

Was it stated that the weakest dragon slayers from 400 years ago could defeat dragons? If so, please post the panel because I must have forgot.

From what I remember, it was generalized. Dragon slayers from 400 years ago could defeat dragons. That doesn't necessarily mean all. I mean I can say humans defeated demons. That doesn't mean someone like Macao can. Anyways, I won't speculate but I still stand by my opinion. Without Dragon Slaying Magic, I don't think August could kill a dragon.

I'm sorry but the strongest wizard there was Jura and even current Jura couldn't give God Serena a single scratch. All the while, base GMG Wendy is capable of doing enough damage to Zirconis as to at least piss him off.
Exactly. Jura couldn't do anything which proves my point. It takes a lot of power + dragon slaying magic to defeat a dragon. Base GMG Wendy barely damaged him. I call it a scratch at most.

If base GMG Wendy can do some level of damage (even if its extremely small) to a dragon, then Laxuses/Natsus nukes (which are easily thousands of times more powerful then base GMG Wendys) are capable of slaying dragons.
As much as it may not seem like a big difference, I can assure you that scratching and totally destroying (or killing) something is very different.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, bringing this up is stupid. August wasnt on guard, this doesn't serve as a detriment to his speed nor his durability. As of now both are featless in durability, we could leave it at that. These kinds of arguments are borderline reaching.
I won't deny this. I agree with you that August wasn't on guard but just keep in mind that a dragon's speed (especially when airborne) is not something to laugh at. Plus, like I said, their physiology automatically gives them an advantage in CQC. The only way I can see August survive without dragon slaying magic is if he has Future Rogue's magic (Dragon Supremacy).

Unless said dragon is a daughter figure to August and he's not prepared to fight that's unlikely lol.
Okay, I'll give you this one.

Yeah, but the difference in power between Zirconis and Acnologia should still be smaller than Eileen to Acnologia (in my opinion). As for her encounter with Acnologia, I think we all know that she somewhat has a high self-esteem. In a way, it is similar to Jacob. He thought he could solo Acnologia and the entire Fairy Tail guild. Now he is defeated and probably a prisoner of war.

Natsu did not evaporate the entire lake, it was never stated. That lake was large, so you didn't see water crashing back because it too far.

They said he was evaporating the lake water.

Why are you comparing a dragon to Irene?

Dragons are immune to magic, end of story. Only magic taught from dragons can affect them.

Current Natsu wouldn't even touch any dragons. The only person I'd see even doing damage to a dragon is Laxus or God Serna and second gen slayers have shown to outclass the original ones.

Gildarts can blitz 99% of the current characters except Dimaria, Zeref and Acnologia. But there could be a million Gildarts level mages on another continent.

I already gave clear feats. "Well August is the king of magic so he probably can counter it"

He can't until he shows feats. As of right now my list is no doubt the most logical one.
