The quote makes perfect sense. Laxus being a threat to Hades at all means he would have to be stronger than Bluenote. An the battle with Jura and how he compares to opponents shown to be even with the main cast continue to support the storyline that he’s closer to Gildarts on the power scale than he is to the others. I think it’s important to note that Laxus can be on Gildarts tier and still playing catch up. Much like Gildarts in comparison to August. I wouldn’t be surprised if a Laxus vs Gildarts at this point goes pretty similar to his bout with Erza just went.

It wasn’t the exact quote is
“Gildarts? Makarov, you put a strong piece on the board. I never thought that anyone besides myself could stop Bluenote in his tracks.” Chapter 235 in case anyone is wondering.
That was an exact quote, he’s talking about the extra stuff in the anime bro

Yes, he clearly was. He had no issue matching him, and was doing a great job. Don’t forget he tanked that blast from Hades even without magic. An we saw what Natsu was able to accomplish with his magic, he put Hades on his ass.

One shotting Bleunote >>> Matching Hades for 2 seconds, not landing a scratch and getting his ass kicked.

That was Natsu AND Laxus combined. Even then Hades got right back up lmao.

That honestly was BS lol. Natsu's MP was insignificant, and Laxus managed to do barely anything to Hades.

Say Laxus is 100, and Natsu's remainder was 10.
Base Hades took Laxus on with low-mid diff. How does adding Laxus' power to Natsu make any difference here?

Mashima could've at least tried explaining it, saying it was some unision raid which multiplies power or something. Or that it's because LFD (like DF) itself is a boost, on top of gaining Laxus' magic power. But he didn't even bother, and we have to come up with assumptions about what happened

laxus wasn't threat to hades at all the moment hades started to attack it only took him one spell to defeat laxus formula 28 he was even more serious against makarov he used formula 100 and makarov was suffering from his heart too and laxus wasn't in gildarts level and he will never be his fight with erza shows that laxus is erza , natsu , jellal level he is closer to them more than gildarts

Y'all, lets not try and rewrite arcs here. Laxus performed better against Hades than Makarov. At no point does Makarov even really retaliate against Hades assault. Laxus does more damage and lasts longer. The formula used was Hax, and was deadlier than the basic nuke used against Gramps. An Laxus still tanked another attack after that with 0 magic. An was strong enough to save Natsu again before he even got his magic back. All of this without Hades reliance on his hear. The only reason he stood back up in the first place. His performance here, defeat of Jura, and other subsequent victories support the idea he has been on Gildarts tier the whole later part. (Only solo victory against a Spriggan) We also had Mashima's statement about sidelining the two of them because their strength throws the story off.

Y'all, let's not disregard what I said and start fanboying over Laxus. Were not talking about Makarov. Were discussing Laxuss and Gildarts and during Tenrou, Gildarts did much better than Laxus.

Laxus got his ass kicked by Hades. Gildarts one shot Bluenote.

Laxus was portrayed as stronger than everyone else and that him and Gildarts were monsters compared to everyone else. However, Gildarts up until Alvarez was tiers above the rest. The only people that made it to his level now are Natsu, Laxus and Erza. Everyone else would get stomped....hard.

Hades could take Bluenote effortlessly. This was and already Understood fact. Gildarts’ victory doesn’t lessen Laxus performance. Especially considering he’s fighting the undoubtably stronger opponent. In fact, Laxus being weaker than Gildarts like he is, and still doing that well against Hades really only supports my argument that he’s reached that level.

You're not making any sense.

Gildarts one-shot someone that is stronger than the 7 kin, and stronger than any other FT member.

Laxus landed like 2 hits then got low-diffed. Hades didn't have any scratches.

If you genuinely believe Laxus was close to Gildarts then you must concede that Jura during the GMG was too. Really? You think Jura was close to Gildarts?

you are the one who rewriting the arc hades was more seriuos against makarov he used stronger spells and makarov didn't get his ass whooped by just one spell like laxus even though makarov had heart problems.

defeating jura not making him in gildarts level god serena destroyed jura alongside GOI without even trying.

natsu alredey one shoot a spriggan gray defeated a spriggan alone too gajeel he defeated a spriggan alone levy was helpless
and don't say that they recieved a boost becuase laxus recieved a boost too.

mashima statement was about gildarts, laxus from the moment he became a good guy he was in every arc and even before that he had his own arc and got defeated by natsu and gajeel gildarts only showed in two arcs tenrou and alvarez and even in 100YQ he is not here becuase he is OP and the strongest, laxus is here and was matched by erza and that means he is in erza level gildarts is too much for him
That’s exactly what happened. Except Makarov did absolutely no lasting damage. Makarov countered with knowledge and looked dope, but look at Makarov at arcs end then look at Laxus.

So now Makarov is a liar? Cause he clearly stated he would be a good match for Gildarts. Later defeats don’t disprove that, especially when we just discussed the sliding power scale we see from our characters. It doesn’t work here.

Natsu did one shot, and Gray & Gajeel has impressive attacks, but not one of them did it alone. In fact all of them would undoubtedly be dead if their partner had not been present at that moment. Those aren’t solo victories. Laxus is the only member of the guild to fight and beat a Spriggan. Every other fight and subsequent victory that arc is a team effort.

Laxus was used in GMG. Then sidelined in Tartaros with an injury, then given 1 fight in the last arc. An the comment was made after he got taken out in Tartaros in reference to both of them missing in action. As I’ve stated several times, the Eileen fight last arc and recent Laxus bout both serve to showcase that Erza has Firmly reached that tier with them.

What don’t you understand? Hades is obviously the tougher opponent and Laxus matched him. Hades bested him with exp and skill, Laxus showed he could keep up power wise no question. Placing him above Bluenote who was Gildarts opponent. An it was a fight, not a 1 shot.

Makarov himself believed that Jura was a challenge worthy of Gildarts. Why should I trust your assessment over his?

Laxus didn't match him. When Laxus went down, Hades didn't have a single scratch. Laxus himself says Hades is too strong for him. I never placed Bluenote above Hades, learn to read before you make assumptions. I said the feat for Gildarts is better than the feat for Laxus

It was not a fight, the only reason Bluenote kept up was because of Azuma affecting FT members' magic with his tree. Literally when he was defeated and it became an equal fight, Gildarts one shot.

Makarov himself believed that Jura was a challenge worthy of Gildarts. Why should I trust your assessment over his?
Because it's been 7 years since he's seen such a powerful showing? Makarov's statement all of a sudden makes it true? Makarov didn't see Gildarts one-shot Bluenote, how would he know if Jura would be a challenge or not?

Are you really going to try and tell me Jura would last against Gildarts? Gildarts one shot Bluenote, the same person who would beat Jura in a 1v1. Jellal matched Jura and most likely would've won with Sema. Is Jellal Gildarts level too all of a sudden?

Using the statement logic, Natsu should've lost to Sting and Rogue but he effortlessly solo'd them in his base when they were using their DF.

Did you just say Jura would loose to Bluenote!?! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣 I was all ready to respond in depth, but bruh. You mean the same guy they blatantly said was only bold enough to attack them because Jura wasn’t there? You just rewriting the entire manga aint ya? 😂😂

Laxus did match him, not only that he overwhelmed him. Being taken out by Hax is an acceptable loss, especially since the spell was expected to kill him.

It’s been 7 years for us, it’s been like 3 months since the last time he felt Gildarts unleash his power. Cause what you’re telling me, is Gildarts master. Who had 2 seperate chances to sense Gildarts unleashed on Tenrou suddenly went senile and forgot how strong his greatest guild member is. He just had a senile moment and arbitrarily stated he was a good match for Gildarts. See, you’re version of events not only requires that I ignore parts of the story. It demands that characters be suddenly inept to support your version of things. Kinda bold.

It’s not all of the sudden. Jellal and Laxus are the two strongest Mages of their generation. An we are shown that both can hang with Jura. So yeah? Clearly put him on that level.

Dude, you keep saying 1 shot but that doesn’t make it so. They had an entire fight. Bluenote did great in said fight. He actually showed us Gildarts go in. Had it been 1 panel, 1 punch, you’d be right. That’s not what happened though, so let’s come up with a different sound bite for Gildarts shall we. That once compromised.

He would? Now you're being an idiot to bolster Laxus. That wasn't Bluenote, that was Orochi Fin. Bluenote wasn't there with them till later.

Laxus did match him, not only that he overwhelmed him. Being taken out by Hax is an acceptable loss, especially since the spell was expected to kill him.
It's as if you haven't read the fight. Show me where he matched him. He landed one attack the didn't leave a scratch, called Hades too strong for him, and then was defeated by an energy blast. Nowhere did Laxus ever match Hades. You're acting like they had a long tough fight. Laxus was pure fodder in Hades' eyes.

It’s not all of the sudden. Jellal and Laxus are the two strongest Mages of their generation. An we are shown that both can hang with Jura. So yeah? Clearly put him on that level.
Ok......and you call my power scaling bad lmao. Jellal all of a sudden is Gildarts level. Can Laxus or Jellal one-shot Bluenote? Laxus barely beat Jura. Add in someone who's much stronger than Jura (Gildarts) and it's an easy win.

Like @ald7mi_99 said before, Makarov was wrong many times during the GMG. He literally said Laxus has no chance against Jura. The rest is history lmao.

Dude, you keep saying 1 shot but that doesn’t make it so. They had an entire fight. Bluenote did great in said fight. He actually showed us Gildarts go in. It literally was dumbass. Gildarts didn't have his magic and couldn't do anything. LITERALLY the minute he got his magic back he one shot him. Can you not read? He broke Bluenote's strongest spell (Black Hole) with pure ease, made Bluenote a scared bitch, then one shot him.

Are you seriously going to say they had a fight when Bluenote himself said it wasn't equal because Gildarts couldn't fight back?

I feel like I'm going crazy when someone is denying the literal manga itself.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Next topic of discussion since Nova is blatanly denying the manga, will Gajeel ever be able to use his Black Iron mode at will? Or will Mira finally get a new power-up that puts her on the level of the other S-Class?

hades was much more serious against makarov he used a stronger spells agianst him , makarov was only defending and he tanked the spell that one shooted laxus with his heart problem if he didn't had pain he could give hades a run for his money.

makarov said laxus is no match for jura at that time did you believe him?? he said team natsu had no chance against ajeel (yet elfman and lissana beat his ass)did you believe him??

when gray defeated invel he was alone juvia was dead(if it wasn't for BS queen)
and gajeel when he used DF levy was in the ground and couldn't move a finger and then he destroyed bloodman they didn't get any help they were fighting alone

laxus had his own arc and got defeated by gajeel and natsu laxus used in tenrou got his ass kicked by hades laxus was in gmg beated a wizard saint and fought a dragon laxus used in tartarus and defeated a demon gate laxus used in alvarez and defeated a spriggan and helped the other dragon slayers in the fight with acno laxus used in 100YQ and had a fight with erza someone every laxus fans said he will mid diff her and the fight ended in a double KO, he has been used in 6 arcs so where is the sidelining that you are talking about?? he is getting more screan time than gildarts, gajeel, mira, gray, lucy, jellal

gildarts in the other side he was used in two arcs only, tenrou he defeated somone hades said that there is nobody in the island can have a chance against him and in alvarez
he one shoot god serena historia who beated the GOI and((jura)) without using his magic and then put up a good fight agianst august who is by the way >>>>>>laxus

using your logic natsu betead zeref who is >>> eileen and eileen>>> laxus, erza gildarts deos that make natsu>>>>>> laxus erza gildarts??

and every one knows that erza fight with eileen was becuase she was her mother not becuase she was strong enough to beat her
He used a higher number spell, we have no idea how much power he put into it. We do know that the spell he used on Laxus kills people just from blocking it, and the other one is just an explosion sooo.

Yeah, Makarov wasn’t expecting him to be anywhere close. He also didn’t see him fight Hades, or do anything at all since he returned from Exile. Sooo not surprised. Also you attempt at false equivalency between him comparing magic power he can clearly sense to his strongest mage whose power he knows, to thinking his Grandson shouldn’t challenge his strongest mage doesn’t help like you think it helps. Neither does his underestimating his kids when he hasn’t seen them in over a year. Need some better examples my guy.

He wouldn’t even be standing before him if she didn’t sacrifice herself to save him. Neither would he have the strength to win. Same for Gajeel, he would have died without Levy’s intervention. You just gunna ignore those parts of the battle for what you want bro? Really?

Dude, again, you have an interesting way of remembering facts. It took 2 slayers to beat Laxus. An they stood no chance and up until he wasted a ton of magic on a spell that would have ended them. An still almost came out on top. Was gone for arcs, then showed up to help. He’s a full member in GMG and shines. He’s immediately taken off the board in Tartaros. An the same thing happens in Alvarez. Is it not sidelining because he’s shown first? I’m confused.

I mean, the opening sequence shows we were right though? Laxus literally no diffs her lightning armor. An then proceeds to slap her around for a chapter, before ultimately forcing her to admit defeat. If I was aware of all the new boosts she can use at will, I would have given her better odds.

Gildarts definitely is seen less, but he also starts off here. Bluenote was nothing compared to Hades, which he also mentioned. An we see how Bluenote stacks up over time. It’s a cool victory, but not the most impressive part of the arc. An one shotting a historia, who we know is actively weaker than he was before isn’t as impressive either. I mean he kept up with August, GS wasn’t gonna be the one. An honestly, gotta disagree. This is the same guy who was scared to even step to Acno. Laxus blitzes a fully amped Acno while he’s on the offensive. Put him in Gildarts spot, I’m still giving him the W. An it it’s current, he don’t need Cana’s help. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Natsu with DF is the most powerful character in the series. He can literally emotion boost strong enough to beat any opponent that steps to him. I’m not sure how this is even a question in FT anymore? Wait, so you not think Natsu can beat them? Cause I got some bad news bro.

It was her mother for story effect and because people wanted her backstory. (Mashima) If it wasn’t for that, she would have still gotten Erza as an opponent, and still gone down. Opinion, Irene was holding back the whole time. Facts: Erza held her own in the fight, and performed pretty well. Including getting the arguable most impressive feat of the arc, while on her last leg physically and magically.

He also didn’t see him fight Hades, or do anything at all since he returned from Exile. Sooo not surprised.
So it works for Laxus but Makarov not seeing Gildarts one-shot Bluenote doesn't work for you? Sheeesh

FT chapter 421 of 16. Only attacking because Jura is gone.

Also, I don’t see your argument. Makarov would have seen and felt him flex on Natsu and beat Bluenote. 1 shot or not, he knows how strong he is 3 months before the tournament. He literally just saw him, and fought 2 battles. How senile is your Makarov that he can’t sense how strong Jura is and properly compare it to his prize guild member? The Ace of his guild for the last decade. His pick for his successor. Oh ok
