He's just a massive disappointment. His character is lame too

The question is, why do you still like him lol. I'm curious.
For not being a main character or part of the main group(FT). Most his moments are pretty good. People just rack on him for not having many proper fights or feeling guilty about his sins. One isn't needed for a good character, the other just isn't fair criticism imo.

As for his character, it's simple but effective. From his atonement to his sins, and his relationship with Erza.

By out of gas, I meant he has really nothing left that can damage August.
Didn't he use? I don't remember, I'll check tho.

Ok. So, in case of no PIS and CIS, what then?

It really was though. Because after that one time, it was August who was contantly overwhelming him. It shows that August is superior to Gildarts in physical combat.
Nope. Because you need to consider base as well. Jellol's combat speed in base would be lower or about the same speed as those guys. August's base combat speed is above Gildarts, who himself is significantly above Laxus and Erza. Now add meteor to that, and yes, IMO he would dodge 95% of their attacks.
Jura didn't hit him easily. He dodged like 10 attacks before Jura could land a blow, and he managed to blitz Jura twice.
Meteor is a game changer when the base speed itself is high.
Why 50%? August dodged/countered most of Gildarts' physical attacks in his base. Why wouldn't he dodge most of Laxus' and Erza's attacks when he uses meteor, which is a massive boost to combat speed?

It makes a difference whether we consider human Eileen or dragon Eileen.
Dragon Eileen >> human Eileen.
Dragon Eileen got rekt only because of CIS and massive advantage from slayer magic. Tools can only do normal damage to August, not super effective damage.
If August can tank Gildarts' strongest spell with minor damage, he can take everything Erza throws at him. Gildarts >> Erza in attack power. August will need less attacks to put down Erza than Erza would need to put down August. And August will dodge more attacks than Erza does as well.
It's really going to be just like Natsu/Gajeel vs Laxus. The gap between either of them, and August, is as big as x784 Laxus and x784 Natsu/Gajeel
Sure, something that doesn't apply to Erza, her reserves are practically infinite.
No, Gildarts only ever uses his organic arm to fight, he's done that since Tenrou.

August loses. You can give August a power boost by making him magically more intelligent than he actually is, he still loses though, Nakagami slices through reflector and August both, assuming he can even use it with other magic(which he probably can't)

Not really, August is immune to his magic, it had little to do with August's speed or skill, that's why when Gildarts did use an attack that could hurt August, it hit him cleanly. August is a good fighter, but he's not better than Gildarts.
Laxus is arguably already a close match for Meteor by himself with Lightning Body, add Erza and there's no way August has the advantage in speed. Gildarts is fast, but his speed is in no way comparable to Laxus and Erza combined. So yeah, %50, it'll let him escape their combo attacks sometimes, but they'll still be hitting him.
Meteor isn't a massive boost to combat speed, it's a massive boost to movement speed, same with Laxus lightning body. The actual speed they fight at is normal, all they provide is increased movement which they occasionally use to ram people. Like I said, useful, but not a game changer.

Yeah, which is why I said it would take a few hits for Erza to kill August, rather than one. Should be more than doable with Laxus as back up.
August didn't tank Gildarts spell with minor damage, imo he'd at best be able to tank one or two more of them, and Erza's stamina is limitless.
Natsu and Gajeel beat Laxus, and they had no advantage over him like Erza has over August.

Wrong :feelsbadman Jellal is still one of my favorites. I don't understand the severe hate on the dude
Because people wanted more from him but never got it, of course to me you can say that about most other characters

Which never made sense to me. He didn’t freak over August power, had no trouble keeping up (even before his daughter got involved), and his first landing attack convinced August to revert to his suicide bomber ace. Laxus has been chasing Gildarts the entire series. Realistically another major power jump from a year of training, should have him sitting pretty solid. His treatment of Kyria supports it. Even if you make the argument it’s only in his amped form.

Nebal is nowhere close to them power wise. An Erza only needed Wendy to win. You wanna give her a slayer stronger than her?
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Like the entire assembled cast thinking they have no chance against Laxus?
Irene still has massively more MP than both Erza and Nebal, so no reason why she can remove her magic. Also, Wendy + Erza didn't win against Irene, even when she let them get a free hit and after Erza beat her dragon form, she still could've won but killed herself.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

I didn't say human Eileen = x792 Erza. Just said overall she's Erza tier. She has MP >> Erza, but Erza is superior in combat speed and attack power. Dragon Eileen obviously >> Erza.

Eileen didn't just decide to stand still. She used her spells on Erza, Wendy countered them and resulted in Erza landing a blow on her while she casted the soul exchange spell.

And see Eileen vs Erza round 2. This time it was WITHOUT Wendy, ie solo. Eileen was extremely angry and Erza was still matching her in combat, until she decided to transform to dragon.

Nebal is nowhere near their level.
She used her strongest spell on Erza, i.e she did go all out. And Erza broke it. I do agree that moving and attacking with such power without any functional bones is utter BS, but it does mean that healthy Erza would have the power to break the spell.
How is Erza superior in attack power? She was buffed by Wendy yet Irene matched every one of her blows IIRC. Same with combat speed, she was buffed yet Irene was reacting to almost all of her attacks.

IIRC, Erza was in her bunny armor and got buffed by Wendy, then she lunged at Irene who stood still because she didn't care about her body getting damaged because she was going to switch soul into Wendy's. Irene wasn't taking time to cast the spell, she literally raised her hand after she got hit and she switched bodies, also even if she was taking time to cast it she could've at least dodged or countered Erza's attack, but she didn't care to do so because she had no use for her body anymore.

R2 was just 7 pages of Erza dodging or getting hit by all of Irene's attacks and Irene easily tanking Erza's attacks, so not much happened and even then Irene had the upper hand.

Where did Irene say Deus Sema is her strongest spell? She summoned that without a drop of sweat, unlike August who literally sacrificed his life. Also you realize that she could've just stepped on Erza, but she wanted her to have a flashy ending so she brought down a meteor. The second she went dragon form, Erza stood no chance, she got one shotted by a smack, talk about disrespect lmao. Also I don't think it matters that Erza is stronger than Nebal, they're both much weaker than Irene and both have no counter to her separation enchantment. I guess Erza could use her Nakagami armor but that drains all her magic in an instant, plus it wouldn't work on Irene's dragon form because of her magic resistance.

I don't doubt that Erza can deal significant damage to August if she lands her slashes, and I don't think Midnight's refractor will be a huge game changer. But can't August just nuke them with attacks on the level of melt? That was a fire spell that knocked Natsu out.

Dues Sema is Irene's strongest onscreen offensive spell. It's better than her explosions, which is really her only other offensive spell. Deus sema is also her only master enchant spell.

Erza wasn't oneshotted by the claw swipe. She ended up breaking meteor and then cutting Irene from her dragon form. Then headbutted Irene when she went to stab her. I don't buy the narrative that Irene held back her attacks against Erza and Wendy. She was trying to kill Erza with deus sema, and simply never expected that Erza could cut the meteor.

Irene and August are equals. Her dragon form outstats August in physicals, but their MP levels are still equal and August can just use dragon slaying magic against her. So it basically evens out.

As far as feats go, I would put melt in the ballpark of Dues Sema. It's at least better than any of the explosions that Irene uses in her human form.... Unless we are to believe that Wendy can shield melt like she against Irene's explosions, which would make Wendy better than Natsu at shielding against fire.

Nakagami has high constraints in timelimit. August isn't losing within that period. Also, I highly doubt Nakagami would work on August, since he's on a completely different tier. It should work as other haxes right? If it does, yea I agree it will cut through August's hax.
Still don't think that is a complete gamechanger though.

I just read the chapters. August was superior to Gildarts in physical combat (I'm not saying far superior. Same tier, but superior). He got more blows on Gildarts than other way around (I'm only considering physical attacks). In fact, the only attack Gildarts connected with August, prior to machine arm, was the crash he used in the very beginning of the fight (which didn't do anything thanks to August's magic immunity).
Meteor is a far bigger boost to combat speed than lightning body. Jura knocked down Laxus each time he tried to blitz with lightning body. Jura's combat speed was actually >= Laxus' with lightning body. Laxus basically outlasted the dude.
While he got blitzed twice by meteor Jellol. Meteor also allowed him to dodge more than ten attacks from Jura before he connected one.

Now, it doesn't mean that Jellol is OP in his tier. His speed is superior to high tier, but his durability is inferior to his tier. So it cancels out in the end. August is pretty damn good in durability, tanking Gildarts strongest spell with only a bloody lip.

Nah, he would take more than three of those attacks to bring down August. Because that attack didn't do much damage to him. He was all right, only had minor superficial injuries. I'd say he can take 10 of those.
Why do you say it isn't minor damage? Does this look like he took significant damage?
And, Gildarts' strongest attack >> Erza's strongest attack. August would need lesser attacks to put down Erza than Erza would need to put down August. And August would land more hits on Erza than Erza would on August. There is really no way Laxus + Erza could take him down, before they get taken out themselves.

Ok, let me ask you this. Remove slayer advantage, will Laxus and Erza be able to beat dragon Eileen? The same is applicable to August. Tools are not super effective on August, just does normal damage on him instead of no damage.

Why wouldn't it be a huge game changer? We saw in Erza vs Midnight, how much it countered Erza. The problem with Midnight was that refraction was the only magic he knew, which isn't the case for August, who knows countless spells.

Also, technically, he should have OP hax of other Spriggans as well, like organ burst, clap hax etc. Because they all have used their magic in August's presence. So, the fight should really just end instantly if not for CIS/PIS.

But, even just by the magic he copied and showed on screen, he should still be able to win against Laxus + Erza.

It's not a gamechanger, she doesn't need it in the first place. August is a match for Gildarts in combat, he isn't superior. Being immune to Gildart's magic gives August openings and options that Gildarts doesn't have, that's why August was landing more hits. Even with that, Gildarts still manages to blitz him and land a critical hit with his machine arm, while protecting Cana.

Yes, this looks like he took significant damage As for why I think it's not minor damage, because that's not at all the way the manga portrays it. Gildarts after experiencing August's power first hand, thought that attack was powerful enough to outright defeat him. Now, he was wrong obviously, but I doubt he was wrong by a margin so large that August could take more than another 1 or 2 of those attacks. Combine that with the fact that August decided to kill himself afterwards, and yeah, there is no way the damage is superficial, nothing in the manga suggests that is the case.

Sure, Erza's not as strong as Gildarts, she doesn't need to be, because Laxus is so much stronger than Cana. And no, August won't be landing more hits, not with Laxus in the ring. Cana got hit a grand total of once the whole fight because Gildarts was protecting her, taking the brunt of the fight. Laxus can fulfil Gildarts role decently as the head on combatant and protect Erza, and when August does get around Laxus he still won't be hitting Erza because Erza is leagues faster than Cana. August's performance simply isn't good enough to suggest he could put these two down, he couldn't even do it with Gildarts and Cana.

Remove dragon durability? Then maybe, as long as the two of them stay out of claw range then they could beat her, it's a riskier fight than August though, Dragon Eileen's offense is more powerful.

Agree that they are equal as human wizards and yes, Dragon form outstats August in physicals. But I am not sure that her MP remained the same amount as well. When she passed into Dragon, she revealed that her enchants passed to "High Enchant" to "Master Enchant", and can enchant more than everything on Earth, which implied that it was her previous limits. In that so, her MP seemed to rise up as well. But I can be wrong.

I just don't think August will use it very much, if at all. He already has barriers that can block Laxus' attacks, and he has better CQC than Gildarts. So he doesn't really need refractor to deal with Laxus and Erza. He really only used refractor because Midnight used it.

Same can be said for his other abilities tbh.

They are equals overall. She needs the wisdom of a sage dragon to use master enchant. I take that to mean that a sage dragon literally has a smarter brain that can be used to cast more complex spells, not that it's a boost in MP. Remember, Irene's actual body is now that of a dragon's. The human form is just a transformation. The god dragons and Acnologia don't really lose their MP going into their human forms. They just lose the physical advantages of their dragon form. I assume the same rings true for Irene.

Let's hypothetically remove CIS/PIS for this battle. Or as you'd put it, make him smarter for the fantasy battle.
In which case, refraction counters tools, you'd agree right? Same for OP hax such as mass manipulation, clap hax, timestop etc; which would allow him to one shot people like Gildarts. The guy is so OP that Mashima had to make him retarded like Jacob, and make him stupid in using his abilities.
(which really makes no sense since he's apparently a genius, which is why I go to CIS/PIS instead. The same was true for Wahl, a freaking machine who should be immune to nonsense like CIS and being retarded, yet he was because Mashima writes the series lmao)

Also, I think Zeref permanently changed her biology. She's still part dragon, but her natural state is now human instead of dragon. Which was why when Erza rekt her dragon form, she became a human again. Because her human form is her current natural state.

I do agree that MP remains, same, but stats in dragon form >> stats in human form. August and dragon Eileen should be comparable overall, not August and human Eileen.
Dragon Eileen has superior physical stats, while August has spell immunity and versatility.

I suppose you're right about the "hax" part. Yea, Nakagami can probably get around refraction.

Ehh, we just have to disagree on that lol. We'll just keep going on circles regarding base August's cqc. Anyway, if you agree that August is at least Gildarts level in CQC, adding meteor to it would make it incredibly hard to land blows on him, considering Gildarts himself is fast AF. And this is not even considering he has at least one more speed magic, racer's one. If it's possible for him to combine those two, imagine how fast he would get (tho, don't bother responding to this lol, I know you'll say he probably can't do it and that's just headcanon, and yea I agree it is. I'm just putting it out as a possibility. I don't see why he couldn't tho, since they're just two independent magics.)

Nah, meteor is a far bigger boost (And yes, it's a boost to combat speed as well, not just movement speed. I consider blitzing a combat speed feat. Also, in Natsu's fight, he managed to land a ton of attacks on him in a flash, it doesn't just make him faster in movement, it allows him to attack faster as well.).
And yes, he blitzed Jura twice. Just one time, it just wasn't a hit, he just went around him. Jura also had a very hard time dealing with his speed when he got close. Laxus got close with lightning body and was countered more often than not.

Jura was actually trading blows with Laxus. It actually seemed like Laxus eventually just outlasted the dude. While Jellol was so fast that Jura couldn't physically knock him down like he did to Laxus, he actually had to put walls and stuff to block his path, and Jellol still blitzed him getting around it.
In combat speed, Jellol >> Jura ~ Laxus
I'm not saying that either of them would not land blows on Jellol. That's 100% NOT my argument. My argument is that Jellol would, say, land 3x more the attacks on them than vise versa because of his speed, but they would probably need 3x less the amount of attacks to put down Jellol because of dura difference, so eventually they just end up around extreme diff irrespective of who wins.
I keep brining Jellol's dura because I want to then apply meteor and compare it to August, who has great durability himself. Point being that meteor make a big difference for August because he is durable himself.

Your panel is just him getting hit. Many characters have been shown to scream in pain when hit, while the damage itself isn't too high.
Consider Laxus vs Erza in the spinoff. Laxus punched through her lightning armour and had her scream in pain, but she then went onto take several more hits from Laxus before actually going down.
The panel I posted, was the aftermath of the spell. The actual damage done to him was superficial. He was completely fine other than having a bloody lip.
And him going for the suicide attack soon after, is either CIS (my argument) or him being in a hurry because of Acno (your argument). It wasn't because he couldn't beat Gildarts, Gildarts lost his ONLY means of damaging August, beating him at this point is just formality.

Cana got hit only once because he only used meteor once lol. This is just CIS from his part.
Yeah, I agree he can't hit Cana in his base when Gildarts is around, because they're comparable in combat speed, so he can't afford any distraction. This is why I keep brining meteor, because that makes a big difference in combat speed. The difference between meteor and no meteor is Jellol being on the defensive against OS in base, and blitzing them in meteor. It's a huge difference. He also ran circles around Acno in meteor, though I'm very skeptical of this feat since I believe Acno would've one shot him like GS if he was truly serious.
I agree that August won't be landing more hits than Erza, with Laxus around, in his base. But in meteor? Yea he would.

Durability is just a part of her. What dragon Eileen has for in physical stats, August compensates with versatility and magic immunity (she would take blows from Laxus and Erza, instead of just Erza for August). They're overall comparable.

August didn't use his other spells in fight against Gildarts. It was mostly a fist fight lol. He didn't use melt, which seemed like a city sized spell. Not did he use offensive refraction, which became a huge tornado. He has countless more spells in his arsenal, he could've used probably any spell shown in the series lol (he has the hype for that, he is the most versatile mage ever in the series). But he mostly stuck to fist fight, only used one spell against Gildarts IIRC (a blast from his staff)

Sure. Refraction would be able to warp Erza's armors, except for her robe of yuen. I just don't think August would decide to use refraction. He has other, simpler ways to counter Laxus and Erza.

Melt knocked Natsu out?
I assume he was unconscious when he woke up on top of Lucy.

Maybe he has. I'm not talking about August vs Laxus & Erza specifically, I'm just pointing out that refraction completely counters his supposed weakness, tools.

In this fantasy fight specifically, it would mean that he would be immune to all of Erza's swords except maybe Nakagami.

Doesn't increase combat speed, it doesn't make Jellal kick or punch faster. If Jellal just stays in one spot with Meteor active he's not going to attack faster than in base. What it does is let Jellal move fast, which is useful, but has never been a game changer for him, except against maybe Acno, because flight speed is actually useful against a big dragon.
Yeah, he didn't hit Jura, which means either Jellal missed or he didn't see an opening in Jura's defense, either way that means it's not a blitz.
Sure, Jura could deal with Laxus, because Laxus flew at him head on, he didn't circle around him. Makes sense given grazing him as you fly by does pretty much nothing.
Like I said, Laxus landed more hits than Jura did. Laxus didn't outlast Jura, he was simply superior overall.

I can buy Meteor being faster than Lightning Body, but it's not by a large amount. Jura can still hit Jellal in it, they're within the same tier of speed. As for Jellal landing more hits, he landed a grand total of 1 hit on Jura, 2 if you count the Mystogan spell, so no, Jellal isn't landing X3 the hits that Jura is, he landed the same amount of hits on Jura that Jura landed on him, so Jellal's hit rate is 1 to 1.

Yeah, him getting hit with his eyes whited out, screaming in pain as he was literally smashed into the dirt. Erza getting punched by Laxus doesn't even come close to what August experienced, she didn't even get knocked down. That aside, I'm not just counting the visuals(though he visually was in agony) I'm counting what actually happened in the fight and how it was portrayed. As for the damage shown in the aftermath, he has scratch marks all over his body and blood on his face, I don't know what more you expect, the character is totally black, there is only so much Mashima can do.

Yep, hit only once and used only once, which just goes to show how useful Meteor is. You're massively overselling it's value, the reality is that even for Jellal, Meteor is rarely ever a game changer, he much more often relies on his bigger spells. OS is a good example of that honestly, Meteor did almost nothing, just a single hit on Racer and Cobra, pretty much the same as what August did in his fight. Jellal hit more times without Meteor than he did with it, that's how useful it is.
Base and Meteor combined, August is hitting Laxus and Erza less than he hit Cana and Gildarts in their actual fight and that's why Laxus and Erza will definitely win.

I know durability is part of her, just like her weakness to DS magic is part of her.

So? What's the point in using spells against Gildarts? He'll just crash them anyway. It made for a boring fight, but it's actually fairly logical.

Ok, so if the idea that Laxus now is at least as strong as Gildarts was last arc. That puts him on August tier. Especially since unlike Gildarts he has a transformation.

August manhandled a bloodlusted Gildarts while talking about his daddy issues. There are no equal lmao.
