Dragon slaying magic is like the most common magic in fairy tail Manga.
But after lullyby arc
We had gulana arc, phantom arc, heaven arc, fighting festival arc, os arc, edolas arc, tenrou arc, gmg arc, tartarus arc
And then finally in alverzec arc we hear flames of emotions again
That is all of the manga between these two mentions of flames of emotions.
And it's not like natsu didn't need powerup in those. He required them in every arc. But again no mention of flames of emotion. Even igneel didn't use or we didn't notice him using flames of emotion.

I think it wouldn't be far fetch to believe that mishma forgot about it.
No, it's not. It only seems common because the story chooses to focus on all the dragon slayers. There's literally millions of other mages that the story doesn't focus on. Also ancient spells just means magic from 400 years ago. It's not the same thing as lost magic, which is magic that has become rare. Now, dragon slaying magic is considered a lost magic too. But even if it wasn't, it would still be an ancient spell.

Also, the number of arcs that has passed is completely irrelevant. Dragon slaying magic was explained all the way in chapter 1 as an enchantment that gives your body the properties of a dragon. And that's still true to this day. Natsu has been constantly using flames of emotion throughout the series. It's what his magic is.

Yes sure. But mishma would remember ds magiv because of it

Huh and how would we know natsu uses flames of emotion not just pof.
And half the times he needed external boosts.

I am saying since mishma didn't write about flames of emotions for so long, it is possible he forgot

Natsu uses both.

It showed up in the final fight against Zeref.

I never understood how durability works in FT. Can someone explain to me? First, in the Aldoron arc Natsu suffered damage against Gajeel. But Natsu in the base form was doing fine against God Seed Aldoron(provided weakened Aldoron was not on Gajeel level), even tanking a few punches until he resorted to his thicket of arms. In Alvarez, Natsu took minor cuts from amp neinhart's wind attack but was able to tank Acno's attack with no damage. If you can tank attacks from stronger foes shouldn't you just remain completely unharmed against weaker foes? Does Natsu foe increase his durability? @Axiomus what do u think?

I think for the topic of durability, I have always likened it to a character's maximum ability to brace himself/herself from oncoming damage.

So against weaker opponents, Natsu might not see the need to put in maximum effort into the fight, so he can just take the bruises and cuts no problem because he knows that he's far superior anyways.

In contrast, against stronger opponents, Natsu will make sure to brace for impact against powerful spells in order to minimize the amount of damage taken, so it can be viewed as his ability to counter or suppress incoming damage (this is what I really consider to be durability).

Personally, when I assess the durability of any character, I always go for their maximum performance in bracing against damage. This is very context-dependent on the manga fights and can mostly be measured by how long they are able to remain in shape for battle after tanking an onslaught of attacks.

Now obviously, there are other inherent stats that can also naturally increase your durability; for example, possessing dragon scales, other non-human properties, and even magical-type spells that are specific for defense.

In the aggregate, you would have to take all the above into account in order to look at who would be most likely to win a battle, but the "bracing for impact" idea kinda explains how and why characters can show visible injuries against weaker opponents, but be able to tank far stronger attacks without much difference to their physical condition - at least that's how I see it in my mind.

I was always curious on how strong Bacchus really is.
Erza did say that they fought each other during X784 with no clear victor. And since Erza didn't use her 2nd Origin for most of the GMG, does that imply that Bacchus is on a similar level to Kagura, etc.?

I doubt Erza would lie about this, but it is honestly also hard to imagine the likes of Ichiya being at the same level.

Serious question though. Those of you who have a problem scaling current DG to Acno. Why?

I don't think anyone has a problem....

The only problem is that these dragons came out of nowhere.
( for me )

Ya, maybe they should have been from another dimension something Elentir. Them being from the same Earthland is what that doesn't make sense. DE as well. It's like Irene being Queen of Dragons and the mother of DS got dropped out of nowhere. For someone like that, they should have been mentioned before Alvarez.

They ran away and hid
Is that enough explanation?

Mashima made the difference between continents ridiculous.

An old woman from another world can know that there is a dragon slayer from the earthland and summon him....

This is easy from another world and difficult from another continent
Yeah

do people have a problem with that? seems to me that people have a problem with how there were 5 other acnos hiding in another continent.
Either that or they can’t accept power creep.

Yeah
Yes it is, and make sense that some dragons out of an entire race would be smart enough to run.

I’m regularly seeing both honestly. An honestly,
I don’t understand either.

The sequel wasn’t planned, and he’s admitted most of FT wasn’t. As such, people being upset that the 5 Acno lvl dragons wasn’t better foreshadowed doesn’t really jive. I’m mostly reading because that’s a preference thing, and not something for me to debate with, and I’m not into starting arguments.

The people upset with the power creep confuse me. It’s the same as how folks want Zeref and August to still be above everyone as well. If the series continues then it calls for others on that same lvl. Even if it only averages to a handful of folks on each contine. Why create new villains that are perpetually weaker than the ones before? I think the 5 hidden dragons all on Acno lvl actually managed to up the ante, we know hype is Mashima’s bag. I’d think people who are still into FT would be having more fun with it.

An I say that from this vantage point. I feel like the Dragon Gods exist to fix how folks feel about Acnologia. Nobody came away confident that Natsu belonged on that tier. An he now has these 4 stepping stones leading to this 1v1 with Ignia that would leave folks feeling that way. Mashima is more into EZ, I feel like that’s obvious, but he’s trying to leave Natsu and FT in a good place with this. At least that’s the vibe I get. An I’m willing to continue the ride and give him the opportunity. Though honestly, I hope Ignia vs Natsu pays off like Arthur vs Dragon has been.

So, I’m surprised nobody is making a bigger deal of this moon lvl feat happening this week. I mean pulled it or enlarged it is irrelevant.

It’s more of the feats doesn’t support the statements

Yeah no, simply moving the moon is a moon lvl feat my guy. Selene is either moving it, or genuinely enlarging it which to my understanding would just be an even better feat. Selene just bumped everybody with that stunt.

I do not know. I'd like to see a fight like this between the moon dragons.........
It would definitely be crazy according to their abilities.
