the final villian will be a zombie
and the creator of nen
'creator' of nen?
I'm pretty sure Nen, in the World of HxH, was more like a discovery than a creration. Because its the Life-Spirit of everything.

One thing's for certain: Meryem only won (instead of being at a perpetual stalemate) because of Gungi. If he didn't know about the game and was never tested by Komugi, Meryem would probably be battered for hours on end, probably until he really started to take damage or Netero runs out of gas.

I don't know if there would be a final villain in this manga in the traditional sense...because there's no overarching storyline, but independent arcs...

However I hope that the last villain of the manga and the most epic will be Chrollo...not just because I like the Ryodan, but because I want more insight into that No Man's Land(forgot the name)...

Meryem was stronger than Netero and was arguably a genius. Did he lose because of a simple aura concept? No he lost because Netero fights dirty!

Having a nuclear bomb goes beyond fighting dirty. Fighting dirty would be if Netero threw a poison grenade and it killed Meryem.

Um, that's totally missing the point of Meryem's power. He was sitting still when Netero first fought him. Netero had to use his name as a lure to get him to stand up. That means, if Netero didn't know this information, Meryem could simply sit down the whole time until Netero runs out of gas and win easily.

To him fighting Netero is just a game like Gungi, which is why both experiences are relevent. Even without playing Komugi, he already figured out that there's a pattern to each individual. Perhaps without playing against Komugi he wouldn't have met someone who can help him get better at these 'games' so quickly but in the end outcome would not change. As Meryem said, the random kid he killed might have surpassed him in some aspect, but it doesn't matter because his power is at the top of the world. Martial arts is no more a game to Meryem than Gungi. If Meryem wanted to kill Netero, all he has to do is do any massive area effect attack on Netero's position since he obviously can trade any amount of hits with him. Even with all the bogus advantages Netero enjoyed (like able to knockback a guy who he can't even damage) the fight would still be over almost immediately if it was to the death.

The only way to defeat Meryem is in a game, and without Gungi, Meryem could've lost in that particular game against Netero, but he's never been afraid to admit that he might not be the best in the world in every random thing.

I'd like to see the personal villain idea.

Gon vs Hisoka (once Gon finally 'ripens')
Killua vs Illumi (the battle of brothers)
Leorio vs Med School (the battle of neverending study)
Kurapika vs Chrollo (battle of vengeance)

But then again that all is just way too obvious for Togashi, so much so that I know he would never do that.
I think the final villain will be something unexpected to be honest. Togashi never does what anyone thinks.

Problem is these fights would all end up as faceroll victories for the good guys minus Leorio against Med School.

Gon would wipe the floor with Hisoka if he is at least as physically strong as Hisoka, which is only a matter of age since Gon has a better school for physical strength. When he does this makes Hisoka's Hatsu useless, so Hisoka must rely on his ingenuity, except Gon is the master of coming up with crazy tricks, so he can't beat him straight up and he certainly can't out-crazy Gon.

Killua pretty much won't lose to anybody just with his speed alone. By definition he can hit you whereever you wants and you can't hit him at all, and unless your head or neck is going to just withstand his fist you're totally dead. For that matter he could also just grab a weapon and stab you to death though I don't think any human is going to withstand Killua's fist with various vulnerable body parts.

Unless Kuroro just dissolve the organization the moment he's caught by Chain Jail, he already had his ability sealed by Kurapika the first time they met when he has 12 other Spiders on his side. How can things possibly get better in a 1on1? Hisoka's betrayal is irrelevent since none of the prophecies mentions Hisoka. The prophecy only spells out the important details, which means Hisoka's betrayal played a minor role in the Spider's deaths. Otherwise the prophecy would probably be something like "Watch out for the clown" or "Watch out for the false April". The fact no such prophecy exist means Kurapika did most of the work in slaying the other Spiders on his own.

None of those fights (besides Leorio vs. medschool lol) could ever be made into "faceroll" victories for the good guys, because that wouldn't be a satisfying conclusion to their story arcs. Gon vs. Hisoka, Killua vs. Illumi and Kurapika vs Chrollo would have to be close memorable fights if they ever took place. The arguments you posted don't matter because the plot tromps any technicalities in HxH's battle system that would hypothetically make one character unbeatable.

With that said, I don't necessarily think Hunter x Hunter's complex plot threads will end with these one-on-one fights. That would be far too simplistic for Togashi.

That's like saying if Gon (normal) fought Meryem to the death it has to be an epic battle because he's the main character even though the said battle would literally end after one frame. As is right now these matchup has the antagonists fighting guys way out of their league that it couldn't possibly work without some "I was hiding my power all along" deal, which HXH probably isn't going to do.

I'm getting a bit psychological here, but I like the idea of the final villain being Gon. Gon vs Himself. That type of set up...but realistically as someone else said the never ending villain of this series will always be the hiatus. -_-'

I think it is more Hunter x Hunter style for no such thing as a big bad. There is no such thing of black and white in Hunter x HUnter only shades of grey. Not Togashi's style to have a big bad. I think the main plots will resolve without conflicts actually.

For example, I think Kurapika will ultimately give up his vengeance.
I also think that Killua and his family will make peace with one another.
As for Gon and Hisoka, I don't know if they will ever fight again (on screen), I can see Hisoka being more of an ally for the remainder of the series honestly.
And for Leorio vs med school, well Leorio will just finally become a proper doctor.

I don't consider the Poor Man's Rose as a nuke but more like a
Chemical Weapon. Netero using the Rose isn't all that different from a poison
grenade...except with the poison grenade there's a much better chance
of survival.

Did it even look like he was gonna gas? Meryem "felt a dull pain" from being hammered hundreds of thousands of times. He initially refused to fight Netero but that was before he realized he could never land a hit on Netero with the statue constantly bashing him this way and that. Without gungi it would simply have been a stalemate until one side runs out of endurance. Meryem has no AOE or ranged attack - if he did he would've fired off a bolt at Netero instead of going through the trouble of finding a way in.

To him fighting Netero is just a game like Gungi, which is why both experiences are relevent. Even without playing Komugi, he already figured out that there's a pattern to each individual. Was it not stated that figuring out patterns of an individual is a gungi skill?

Pariston and/or Gyro are good candidates, although my guess is that the final villain for the story will be someone/thing from the dark continent yet to be introduced. Of course there are still villains specifically made for each of the main characters (Illumi for killua, Hisoka for Gon, spiders for Kurapika...) but their purpose in the story is mainly the growth and development of their targets.

Gyro is probably going to be the last villain. He's probably going to grow through the rest of the arcs, slowly taking over Meteor city, since that's where all rejects of society go, and that means the Phantom Troupe, which means Kurapika, which means Leorio and Gon and Killua, which means the Zoldycks, which means Hisoka, and the Hunters association, and Bisuke, and Wing, and maybe even greed Island, and because of his connection to Netero, that could mean Beyond Netero and his gang (if they aren't all killed off), and then it's a all out war where who knows will survive - except Mr. Bean.

Mr. Bean will survive, because he has a desk job.

Well lets see:
Illumi could easily end up as final villain material, if he manages to take control of Alluka or killua (or both) to get his wishes granted, only problem is, he has no army like Gyro or a troupe like chrollo.

Gyro is most likely final villain material, but I still wonder how will things work out for him, if that happens.

Chrollo at this point doesnt seem like he will be a direct final antagonist, he keeps losing spiders left and right, I´m thinking he will end up as a ally to the final villain most likely Gyro, unless he finds out about Alluka´s nen, then all bets are off.

Pariston also has good odds of being final villain material, if he gets dissapointed with the hunters association that is and Ging knows he´s a big threat so he wants him monitored, that just goes to show Pariston is a big deal also he´s a very good psychological fighter, which I think will be togashi´s main focus point with his final villain, it wont be a about a overpowered physical monster, but about a psychological monster, I´d like that concept more actually, it would be a bitchslap for many shonen out there to have the final villain of a series like HxH be more of a psychological fighter.

Hisoka and his final fight against gon, seems interesting, but I doubt Hisoka will turn into final villain.

I´d pick Gyro or Pariston for final villain material, but more Pariston.

Well, HxH isn't the type of show that really has an end goal. The Original Goal has been to meet Ging or find out what made being a hunter so great (in which case gon's story could be permanently put to rest. But the world (and gon's life in particular) have expanded beyond that. It's more about the journey than the destination (i doubt it even has one). Neither Gon nor Killua have any superficial motivations that would make a final villain even possible. Maybe Kurapica for his story would, but the point of his story will likely end up with him taking another loss, but finally learning to move on. Outside of him the world is simply bigger than any individual character bar anomalies like Meruem.
  • Now i could be wrong. A first guess is that it could take the Naruto route and be about the friendship of Gon and Killua in which case the last fight could be the fight between those 2. That however seems less likely as Killua is a more self aware character than Sasuke is (so he's less likely to be manipulated) and he doesn't have any motivations in life. In that regard Kurapica is much more likely to become a future villain but he wouldn't be close enough to gon to warrant a final villain status (Assuming gon is still treated as THE main character).
  • Hisoka is the next guess but on a basic level that idea can be discarded simply because it doesn't fit the character. Hisoka has no real motivations. He only has a lust for battle and a very minimal but somewhat existent social life (he has acquaintances?). Also the unexplored world would suggest that humanity on a whole is rather insignificant and probably weak on a whole. There might be other species that are more powerful.
  • The third guess would be a dominant race in the new continent, but even then there could be life on the moon.

I mean really. HxH isn't the type of anime that does stereotypical things for superficial reasons. It's much deeper than being bounded to any destiny.

I don't think HxH really does the concept of 'final boss' all that often.

It invokes it, but often doesn't really follow up. We had Hisoka as gon's target in heaven's, but Hisoka won and was actually mentoring Gon in his own way.
We had Chrollo for Kurapika, but Kurapika abandoned his revenge in favour of searching for the eyes.
Then we had two legitimate examples with Genthru and Meruem, however, even those were not completely straight.
Genthru got beaten like a final villain, but even with that, he was just one more obstacle (like the dodgeball game) to finish the game, which was the true antagonistic force in that arc (and in fact, beating genthru didn't instantly win them the game if gon and kil didn't have the knowledge for the ruler's blessing) and Meruem was never gon's personal villain but just opposed to the group he tagged along with.

I think that HxH keeps up a good mix of universal and personal villains and a good mix of anticlimax and pay off for those.
In our case, people like Pariston and Beyond are (for now) universal villains for the zodiac and a good chunk of the hunters, and pariston is a personal villain for ging.
The fourth is a universal villain for most of the ppl participating in the deathmatch because they fear for him getting nen when they know him.
He is also a personal villain for each other prince and, soon, kurapika.

I do think that HxH will keep this up and not suddenly pull a Kagura, so no 'OK GYRO IS UNIVERSALLY HATED BY EVERYONE BECAUSE HE IS DOWNRIGHT EVIL AND ROTTEN TO THE CORE!'.
I think and hope HxH will stay true to itself and let Gyro be just another person with a blue and orange morality that either needs to be overcome or to be fought into a stalemate or even to be made an ally.

In that regard, a suitable end would probably be the end of the personal journeys of our mainprotagonists.

Kurapika aquiring all eyes and HOPEFULLY finding peace of mind.
The spider/Hisoka plot to be settled.
Kurapika either becoming heir or severing all ties with his family forever.
Ging finding Don and Pariston vs Ging being resolved.
Leorio either dying or coming home as a fullfledged doctor.
Melody either dying or finding the dark sonata.
Gon finding a new purpose in life that makes him happy (and subsequently resolving the gyro plot).
The huge plot of Zodiac vs Beyond being settled.

Since i am a person who believes gon will never get his nen back, there is an ending that is at the back of my head.
I think Hisoka will lose his nen too, and in the end, there will be an all out match gon vs hisoka without nen.

I really dont think there will be a real "final villian" in HxH because its not that type if Manga in my opinion.
I believe HxH is a more Goal oriented Manga.
Like for example the Hunter exam arc - who was the main villian there? That arc had a goal rather than a main villian - to become a hunter.
Can we say Genthru was the Main villian in Greed Island? Maybe but there was a goal - to collect the 99/100 cards.
This shonen doesnt lack villians but it is all a matter of perspective and even the protagonists have different goals.

Thats what i esoecially like about HyH its not like DBZ where the goal is to Save the earth every now and then.

In my eyes irs far more interesting to know what goal eavh character might have and how he will be able to reach it.
Gons Goal might be to regain his nen abilities.
Kurapika to collect the Kurta Eyes as a long term goal.
Hisoka seeks revenge on Chrollo and most probably vice versa.
Each character might have their own villians.

Pariston in that way might be an exception. I dont see what his ambitions might be.
He is likely to be the Chaos element in here.
I like that. I want to see more of him he is a very interesting character.
I wonder how he will treat his villians.
