Well I was a bit afraid at the start of the episode with the endless
Oars...Ace kun...Oars!...Ace kun...OARS !...ACE kun!...OAAARS !
but the part with Garp was nice, they overdid it a bid wrt to the manga but that was ok I guess.
On the contrary, I was a bit disapointed with Luffy's entrance. But it something they can't do easily. With the manga, you receive a huge shock whith a crazy double spread. In the anime you've already have lost the surprise effect and they drag it during 2 minutes

Episode was really nice. The part about Garp reminiscing about the past was the marking moment, until the end where: AHHHHHHHHHH we're all gonna die! Oh I'm made of rubber xD

and then the mythical ACEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I loved this episode, the best episode of the year for me so far !
I really liked the fighting scenes (specially Whitebeard's), the comedy (Garp's face when Luffy showed up is priceless, I laughed hard), the sad scenes were ok too and Luffy entrace was epic, I didn't expect it to be as good as the manga when it came out.

Also the animation was pretty good.

I just hope the episodes to come are gonna be as good as this one but I wouldn't bet on it.

Lovely episode but the best thing or me is Luffy finally making his entrance ... now the real epic stuff starts, this is going to be an arc to remember

Pretty cool episode. Whitebeard's attack was what made it for me ! He was TOO awesome Luffy's entrance was too long though, so all the epicness was gone from it. IMO.

Can't wait for next week !

WB and Luffy stole the show i thought WB attack and Luffy and co. falling were the and did anyone else find the ring,ring,ring part annoying and funny at the same time?

The sound the Den Den Mushi make never stops being funny and annoying. I want it as a ring-tone.. imagine being on a crowded bus and suddenly this sound starts up..

The last 2 really took the quality up a notch; Boa Hancock's fight animation was great, and I liked where everything kept going red. Cheap but effective. Nice flashback too.

Anyone who thought the war wouldn't be full of still frames because they couldn't animate so many people is fooling themselves. They did it far more in Alabaster. I almost wish I hadn't read the manga so I could watch in more suspense. Poor Ace looks like a zombie already though..

I don't know where was Luffy's entrance LONG..
It was perfect pacing for me...
And the AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEE got all the epicness it needed, now everything we need is epic animation here onwards...
And from the preview, we will have it!
So I just hope One Piece gets is pace back, and starts rocking!

It was a nice flashback indeed, but it seemed like they changed some dialogue around and IMO it was better in the manga chapters.

I really liked the *filler* flashback of Garp, Luffy & Ace. It was really cool to see the three of them fighting, arguing, eating and messing around! I miss those kind of moments in the manga. T_T

Garp's facial expression, after witnessing Luffy & co flying down, was just CLASSIC!

I'm really looking forward to the next episode now. ^^

Well, I just caught up with the last 5-6 episodes. Not much to say against it.

My only problem is that anime direction just stretches out the manga content instead of expanding upon it. I'll make an example with Ace vs Jinbei. All we got was Spade pirates watching and some SFX from DBZ. Was that the best possible solution? Come on, they could have animated 30 seconds of fighting at least. Punch, kick, dodge, counter, kick, throw, then the surprised Spade pirates.
They could have done the same with Ace vs Blackbeard before. That's what anime is for. To animate shit and expand some manga scenes.

While I agree with your general sentiment, there is an inherent trap laid out in animating stuff that is not in manga. How do we know about the fighting styles of Jinbei? So far, we have just seen glimpses of what he can do. There is always the trouble of showing some flashy fighting style only to be contradicted later by manga. Similar thing happened in Ace vs Blackbeard. They couldn't show any more than what was shown in manga because we don't even know what kind of fighting style Ace had in addition to his fire attacks.

While I agree with your general sentiment, there is an inherent trap laid out in animating stuff that is not in manga. How do we know about the fighting styles of Jinbei? Similar thing happened in Ace vs Blackbeard. They couldn't show any more than what was shown in manga because we don't even know what kind of fighting style Ace had in addition to his fire attacks.

I know what you're saying, but I doubt it that showing Jinbei punch or avoid punches would somehow create a plot hole. Same with Ace. They just need to keep fights simple, but interesting. Like in the beginning of the manga/anime.

Also, as far as Ace is concerned, the animators didn't seem to have any trouble showing him fight the guards in Impel Down. Fight with Jinbei was an even better opportunity to get creative. But sadly, no.

i didnt realy like that episode, seemed to be a great lack of story progress.
wasn't the way in which the boat fell off the frozen wave different? i was under the impression it was because of iva's death wink
