The buff his Burst gives can snapshot into other unit's abilities
You have to stay in the circle for the buff to stick...? :gwah

eh, he might not be that great with jean/xiao then... :(

so the only thing you'd miss out on is the healing.

:nah

It's not like it's completely useless if you move out of it.

everything good about him has slowly gotten "nerfed"

Bennett wasn't very popular when the game was first released tbh, so I think Abyss Mages and the like doing that was just to counteract static fields in general, not just him.
offense wise, who has a static field that just begging to be used?

Bennett is a menace and the reason for all of society's ills

(...sitting on chrome 24 inch wheels)

---

huh i think i just talked myself out of ever seriously pulling for any static field mechanic characters.

also...

Albedo is spammable though so kind of less annoying in other situations I guess.
Albedo slaps. I tuned tf out of mines. he does like 14k (crit) per tick. :datass

heard a def artifact set might drop soon. which maybe true if albedo gets that rerun. that marketing team know what they doing :e3

Snapshotting means if for instance, Xiangling is standing in Bennett Burst and uses her Burst, the Pyronado keeps the buff whether she remains in the field or not, and it's the same thing with many abilities. So leaving his field isn't as much of a detriment.

Like what though? Pyro resonance is still the same as it's always been, healing is going to become more important with them adding Corrosion on the new island in 2.2 I don't see him really falling out of favor honestly.

Ganyu, Albedo, Zhongli, Diona, Jean, etc

the whole "setting up for a big attack" thing is bust- they've come down on it hard.

ok, you snapshot.
*bam*
enemy teleports half way across the map!
you run towards them having launched your ult in that static field (...for that sweet-sweet snapshot damage) but-
what's this?
the enemy is giving you the finger the whole time you're running to them!
what about your poor skill?
half-way through its duration when you finally catch the bastard :nah

static field mechanics are garbage and if they keep going the way they are- any characters released with them will be d.o.a *cough* kokomi *cough*.

SURE-

they're manageable but it's a chore.

You can't claim benntte didn't affect the game design cause he wasn't popular then say a newer limited 5 star is breaking the mold. :nah

he isn't static (it's spamable :e3).

those pillars do damage...?

they set you to do better physical iirc but it's not as ubiquitous as bennett's

...that thing does damage...?

I'm guessing it's good for melt?

as a jean haver- her field's main damage comes from the release. it pushes all of the enemies out of it and then KEEPS them OUT. :-_-

---

bennett is the main reason they've come down so hard. they saw all those damage vids on youtube and noticed a common denominator. :cop

Kokomi not being able to move her E isn't really the main reason why she was unpopular IMO. It definitely doesn't help though.

My point was that the game wasn't designed around his abilities because he wasn't played much. Don't think I was implying that Ganyu broke any mold, just saying she didn't introduce something new.

he isn't static (it's spamable :e3).
Fair enough, but it has to be since it's so easily destroyed

No, they do Geo damage and resonate with other structures to make the field bigger. The phys shred is from his shield.

Yeah, the damage isn't a huge part of it though obviously.

as a jean haver- her field's main damage comes from the release. it pushes all of the enemies out of it and then KEEPS them OUT. :-_-
It's still a really big nuke though and applies VV. It being static has more to do with it's healing component, not unlike Bennett. Bennett just gets more attention because he's the best/only Pyro support and Jean has a lot of competition as a VV user.

bennett is the main reason they've come down so hard. they saw all those damage vids on youtube and noticed a common denominator. :cop
Yeah but you're saying he has affected how the game is designed, and I'm saying I don't really see it since there's always been mobile stuff, as well as the fact that the main part of his Burst isn't wasted if you have to move out of it. That and since his ascension stat is ER and you still want ER on him, his Burst is constantly available anyway. If there was some change aimed specifically at him, I don't think I've seen him really suffer for it. :hmm

you see any static field mechanics on a new character and you know instantly where the dev's heads where when balancing them.

those new mobs (riftstalkers) look to teleport every millisecond too. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

All i'm saying is that-

The game devs seem inclined towards certain enemy behaviors which just so happens to negatively impact static field mechanics- and bennett is at the top of that hill.

it's been a while since something actually tried to bludgeon me in this game; everything just runs away or attacks from afar.

Not Genshin Impact related, but I got into the Honkai: Star Rail closed beta test... the game looks pretty interesting, but it being turn-based kind of gives me pause.

Turn based you say.... that interests me. I may have to check out some videos as I actually prefer turn based systems to more action-y ones.

I thought Honkai was a sort of action brawler type deal.

I think Honkai has split timelines. In this one, it's turnbased, lol.

Yeah Honkai Impact is an action brawler like Genshin, but instead of comboing between a 4 unit team, a single unit has the combo stuff IIRC

But yeah, this game is turn-based. So far the animations are really clean and engaging despite it being turn-based, so I can't complain too much.

So this is party based like Genshin? As I recall that was the dealbreaker with me an honkai when I played tried it out way back when. Is this a more or a party thing? If so what seems to be the max number of characters on a team?

The one character at a time just isn't enough for me in a gatcha game where you want to use all your characters. Genshin, even if it is an action game does give you 3 other units you can use and try to set up teams and such. Even if those units, unfortunately, can't all be on the field at the same time.

Yeah it's party-based, 4 units at a time. Each unit has two different abilities plus an Ultimate in combat. When out of combat they also have something called a "technique" that usually offers some sort of utility-based thing. They have elements kind of like Genshin, also have passive abilities and a tree-like system that seems similar to constellations, but I don't know if acquisition is the same yet or not. Basically the game in the closed beta doesn't have gacha currently, just all of the characters in a store, primarily for testing purposes I guess.

Yeah, Genshin should revisit doing events where you're allowed more than 4. That duo thing they did before was pretty funny. Like having 6 pairs that you swap through sequentially, it changed combat patterns a lot.

New banners are coming soon

If you were ever going to pull on a weapon banner, this would probably be the one to do it. Staff of Homa is basically the #1 or #2 ranked weapon for ANY polearm user, and Elegy of the End is a great weapon as consolation on any Bow support (Venti/Diona/Sara). The 4stars are great too, both the new Bow and Polearm look to be very good, Sacrificial Sword is obviously very good, and Widsith is basically the best 4Star Catalyst in the game for dealing damage.
--- Double Post Merged, ---

So my summons went pretty much as well as they could have. Got Staff of Homa right at soft pity, pulled the new bow and polearm, was able to max refine my Sacrificial Sword. Pulled Thoma and Sayu a couple times, got Diona once for c5, and won the 50/50 for c1 Hutao with about 60 wishes left.

I'm overdue for disappointment in 2.3 with Itto and Gorou though.

Imma try to hold off for on pulling until something broken comes along.

gorou seems interesting but stacking geo on one team reeks of low damage output.

---

they aren't being coy- corrosion was purely to push kokomi (...which i knew but-

just about any healer would've gotten you through those floors.

questionable sales tactic but it was nice knowing the spiral will be a cake walk if you pull the banner but that doesn't seem to be the case (...was it ever).

---

got (another) skyward blade after around 6 pulls fresh off a mercy. the fact that people fuse weapon (5 star) dupes is insane, the rates for them are garbage (...same principle as with fgo ce's).

I've been sort of stepping away from Genshin recently. So I won't be pulling.

Might even stop playing entirely for a while. Once you reach the end of the story there isn't really a lot in the game I'm enjoying doing at the moment.

i think it's the opposite for me

i never really cared for the story, i just like min-maxing my characters.

that said, not being able to skip cutscenes, is very painful (some of the storylines are decent but most are...)

Gorou seems aimed to make Geo broken, but perhaps only in the case of having a team with multiple Geo members.

I think it was to push healers in general, especially with the new set coming in 2.3 which seems to give healers more damage.

5star weapon refines are treated on a case-by-case basis, but generally refinements are better if you have decent alternatives. For instance, if you had Ganyu and you pulled more than one Amos Bow, there'd be no reason to not refine them, for two reasons. One, Amos Bow refines add an incredible amount of damage on Ganyu specifically. Two, there really isn't another character that can use Amos Bow as effectively as she can, unless you really like DPS Amber for some reason. But in any case, the low chance of you using Ganyu and Amber at the same time isn't worth spending double the amount of resources to max out a 5star weapon, nor the reduction in damage from not getting R2 on a weapon like that.

Only if you have 3 is it defendable (i.e. you merge 2 and keep one)

They're gonna make more characters, someone else is bound to want it in the future.

when it comes to good weapons, the game is a practical wasteland.

at the same time isn't worth spending double the amount of resources to max out a 5star weapon
most of my resources are collecting dust. it took around 2 days to get my skyward up to 90 (and that was mostly waiting for the right domain day)

And there will be more weapons as well, including amazing 4stars, like the new series we're getting now.

There's way more nuance to it than saying NEVER refine under any circumstances. The character you wouldn't be able to use it on, what other options you have, your resource situation, etc.

I don't really understand what you mean, there's a lot of good weapons.

4 star: 20 pulls for a 20% shot
5 star: 160-270 pulls for a guarantee

(that's if i understand epitome path correctly- it procs on your third mercy)

It only makes sense after you get more than two (i wouldn't do it until i got a 4th copy, where i would then feed it to one of the three.)

I meant all new weapons, not the gacha-only ones. The new Inazuma craftable weapons are quite good. Then you have the event-exclusive ones like Festering Desire or The Catch that go toe-to-toe with some 5stars for some characters and they cost half as much mora to level up and refines are free.

I won't simp for Mihoyo though, but the weapon banner is still much better than it was at launch. I didn't spend a single wish on the weapon banner prior to 2.0 when they changed it and I've played since launch.

This argument can exist for some weapons maybe, but not all 5stars are created equal, nor are they actually markedly better than 4star alternatives with refines. For instance, say I had HuTao and Xiao and had a team for each and wanted to use both of them in the Abyss. If I only had 2 Staff of Homa and no other 5star polearms for Xiao to use, I could see the argument for maybe holding off on refining, as Xiao gets a tremendous spike from using a 5star polearm compared to the 4star options, especially if you don't have something like an R5 Deathmatch, which would take 6 Battlepass purchases to get, or an R5 Blackcliff Pole which takes an absurd amount of Starglitter that is better spent on character constellations.

even if they are good, they're locked behind weekly gacha boss drops

prototypes are harder to get than five stars :derp

and they're coveted...

cause the game is a veritable wasteland as far as weapon selection goes.

just pulled (9 times) on the character banner trying to get one of the four stars... can you guess how it went?
i hate this game so much

what you speak of, is an "exception", and every rule has one.

still though-

what i said holds true for like 70% (ehh i'm not counting) of the weapons... (5 stars that is, the 4 stars are kind of trash at r1)
