Gintama is an on-going series which is currently appearing in Weekly Shonen Jump (same as Naruto & Bleach) since 2004. In March 2007, announced that sales of the first volume had passed one million copies.

Summary

Set in the last days of Edo, strange outerspace creatures named 'Amantos' have invaded Japan,
and resulted in a war between the samurais and Amantos. Now, the Amantos are living on Earth together with the humans. The adventures of Gintoki and his friends begin from his Yorozuya, ranging from silly rescue missions to fights against the alien government. What will they be up to every time?

If I remember correctly, this guy has not appeared in any of the chapters before. Maybe his real identity will be revealed later on. These few chapters seem quite interesting. Btw,
Yorozuya had just released Chap 91 too.

Hey, you're right. I just realise most of Gintama chapters can be read independently, except for some arcs like this current one, where you had to follow closely. You should check this out too.

thanks bomber. i wish the scans were caught up. then my group would do the new gintama every week (in my dreams). gintama takes a long time to go through the R/T/S process. but we are on our way to getting set up. i think we are going to ally with rumbelsubs and then there would be a small but dedicated team working on the gintama scans. so just keep doing what you're doing and we'll probably end up using your translations to get something out for the people to read!

My favorite quote in Gintama is Gin-san's "I wish I had something like Bankai" hehehe that made me laugh.Makes me wish he had one too =D.

And Bomber is doing fantastic these days...Chapter 162!! Can't imagine, i had not even read that far yet into the chinese raws, and this chapter looks interesting.

I always like to see Gintoki & Hijikita together, they fight so well, and they are so loggerheads with each other everynow and then. And it seems like even Okita had gotten into his plan to get rid of Hijikita?! I'm not sure what this story is, since i think this chapter is from the middle of some arc. Am I right?

今週は星海坊主が主役

とある星に謎の生命体がやってきてその星を攻撃
必死に抵抗する戦士も美人隊長カイとイワノフの二人だけになりいよいよ終わりの時が
そこにやってきた星海坊主
カツラかぶってるけどズレてる

救世主が来たと地下に隠れる人々に共に戦おうと訴えるカイだが諦めきった人々は声を聞かない
おまけにイワノフが星海坊主のカツラをばらし民衆にバカにされ説得は失敗
だがカツラの件はイワノフがわざとやったことだった
それを見抜いてた星海坊主にこの星はもう滅ぶというイワノフ

謎の生命体はこの星そのものだと言ったところで次回に続く


Somebody with a little better japanese comprehension should do it but what i gather from it is that Kagura's dad is trying to defeat an alien, but it splits into two and heads down to earth where Katsura is trying to either defeat or observe it. When that fails Kagura's dad (or Umibouzu) tries to fight against it but its getting stronger.

Ok, first of all, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate thread to ask this, but since this is where I downloaded it, I'm gonna assume it is.

I recently downloaded the Gintama from issue #28, the one with the popularity rankings on it, and since I have no ability in speaking Japanese whatsoever, plus there are multiple characters appearing in a frame representing the place that character got in the ranking, could someone please help me and tell what the popularity rankings of Gintama is in text form? Much appreciated.

I've had a look and I believe they are rankings of people's favourite scene from the manga hence showing the manga panels.

And you are right, it's the 1st that Gin is ever seriously injured. The appearance of Nizo's boss, Takasugi, is important too, since he's going to be one of the more troublesome enemies that Gin will face later on as well.

Er...can you remember whether the Ben arc fully scanlated yet? >.>

Hi Nami! Yeah, I loved the Nizo vs Gintoki fight under the bridge, it was a cliff-hanger!

LOL. I feel sympathy for Nizo and Tetsuo because they remind me of people in RL who are socially rejected so they have to work really hard to get power and respect. They end up like small versions of Nizo and Tetsuo. Yet ironically, they tried to get power and respect in order to feel belonging.

Nizo probably felt that Takasugi was the only guy who understood his twisted soul so he didn't mind dying to serve him, i.e. dying for the sense of belonging. Tetsuo hated himself and thought he would be happy if he could make the ultimate blade, yet the ultimate thing that made him happy was sacrificing his life to protect his family member (sister) from his own blade. XD;;;

No, the Beni Arc isn't fully scanlated yet, but it will be in two months. It's currently being released by Mangasearcher as a solo, but in two months Urakai Scans will take over and begin releasing the rest of Gintama from Beni Arc to Kyubei Arc to Owee Arc, 35 Edited Mangas are being prepared now.

On the topic of Edited Mangas I've heard that M7 has got chps 42-50s ++ translated, so we can also expect them to begin Edited Manga on these chapters once their staffing issue is settled. ^_^
