I wish so myself. this is a matter not to be trifled with. you know how the purpose of man is to pass on their genes well the purpose of man is also to take care of the planet and ensure a future so our genes may continue to carry on.

You hear it more all the time like bears are skipping hibernation and flowers bloom in the winter that should bloom in spring. These little things are being ignored thou they are a sign how badly it’s going.

You guessed it time to go back to the time of the blade :P

ps it stopped snowing in the winter here to. ><

Yeah actually on the weather forcast I heard that there was a possiblility of snow so I'm crossing my fingers. Maybe we should start some MH organization about Global Warming. Since most of us live in different countries we can band togetherand rise as pillars in our communittee and bring the Global warming crisis to the attention of the world

Just in case, the effect of global warming will result in a new ice age. Warming and thawing of ice at the poles has for effect to cool down the major sea streams. So it's a long time before we all burn to crisp. We might drown and freeze, but not burn.

While humans activity certainly plays a role in it, the scale of that effect has yet to be determined. Atmospheric CO2, more generally Greenhouse effect gaz, reach 0.28%, against 99.72% OF NATURAL ORIGIN (http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/greenhouse_data.html ). Scientist observing Mars also see a raise of temperature, but you can't really say that it's caused by the population there. It is very possible that this is just a natural evolution, moreso a natural cycle.

So stop panicking. Do any of you remember the ozone layer hole years ago?

I remember it due to the release of ozone the atmossphere has a harder time releasing the greenhouse gases which accumalate.

I completely disagree with you that its just a natural evolution. Why would you think so? has it ever happened before I doubt it. I have more to say but I'm just a bit busy right now.

What are you saying, that it is better to have a hole in the ozone layer?

Anyway I was only saying that the role of human activity in this phenomenon, more importantly its scale, is not clearly defined. It's not a matter of disagreeing or not, we don't have the datas necessary to evaluate that. We only have accurate weather datas, year for year, of tha last century or so. How old is the Earth again?

Oh no you must be mistaken having a hole in the Ozone Layer is a bad thing. a few billion years old but they can always do geological studies to study the weather for at least a few million years

Good, you got my point, which is that considering the Earth's age and the numerous cycles glaciation/warming that occured, it's unclear as of now what the role of humanity in this. However you didn't get my point about the ozone layer, which was that 10-15 years ago this hole was (supposately) gigantic and we were all going to die of sunburns. And now it's pretty much gone (the hole, not the layer). What I'm getting at is the mass medias are quick to give the public what sells and what they can immediately recognize ("it's hot, we're all fucked, global warming, goddamn chineses, Bush, etc...) but the problem is not necessarily where they point. Some sort of pre-cooked (and overcooked) info, lacking objectivity.

I agree that it's better to be careful now than be sorry later. However blaming everything on "selfish humans" is a little too much too simplistic as of now. We don't know for sure, but that shouldn't stop us from being cautious.

but it has been proven that our actions as humans polluting and wasting energy is the catalyst of our strange weather patterns. We my also expect something remenicent of The Day After Tomorrow

It can not be proven, as the industrial age is fairly recent. As you pointed before, Earth age is in billions! What's a century? Cycle of warming/cooling have been recorded in Earth's soil many times over BILLIONS of years.Long term datas are not enough to be accurately analysed as of now. NASA is talking about global warming for about 20-30 years now, but never linked it to human activities, because scientifically it can't. We maybe a catalyst, but wouldn't these events happen without us anyway? Again, the temperature on Mars is rising, how is human activity responsible for that?

It's a human trait to think bigger than we really are. I agree that we certainely affect the climate with industrial activity, but maybe we are the drop in the ocean? Keep in mind that if one of the Earth super volcanoes decided to erupt tomorrow, no quantity of human CO2 could match that baby. I'm not even talking of the massive immediate death toll it would take. Of course if we are the drop-too much, then it's a problem :amuse.

It is natural for humans to think of things bigger than themselves thats why alot of humans believe in god, but what I wanna know is why are so many humans concieted if we believe that we are part of a bigger picture.

on topic again- okay so we have a hole in our ozone which means that moe UV rays than ever leak into our atmosphere everyday which was directly caused by excess release of chlorofluorocarbons and too much exposure to UV rays can lead to cancer. Was it not humans that did that?

As for our atmospheric changes that cannot be explained by alot. We have a whole in the ozone so it causes tempertures to rise and help melt our polar icecaps.

so why would we experience another ice age? I seriously doubt it . Tempertures have reached all time highs progressively everywhere. Global Warming is actually caused by GreenHouse Gases are gases that contain heat. By the release of excess CO2 we trap more and more heat everyday which will lead to more melting of our polar ice caps which in turn causes water levels to rise. We have cities that in a couple of years that will be completely sunmerged into the atlantic.

I have more but I have to go do something

I don't get your first sentence, it doesn't make sense to me.

Cancer and weather are 2 different things. The impact of pollution on health is a different things, this is an unrelated point.

Did you read my post? The hole in the ozone layer is resorbing and is pretty much gone. So if human pollution opened it, how come it's closing, does that mean we are rejecting less gas? This is just too simplistic, if anything we are rejecting more. There's limit of our knowledge, and this is one. THe point is to not believe (keyword here) we know when we don't. The inverse can also be true in others contexts.

You don't have to doubt an ice age for Europe. You just have to know that it's happen before, it's documented, so it's possible to happen again. Simple as that, there is no belief in that. You are talking about science fiction, not science. Rely on what you read, not on pop culture.

Before this degenerate, here is my final say on this, because I think it's been good enough, it's straying too much from the subject at hand: temperatures are rising, but that can not be linked to human activity. There is indications that it might be the case, but it might not. There is too many contradictory datas. We should keep searching, and be aware in our everyday life.

Haha, Kalkoen, your first sentence is the reason.

Actually, an ice age is the more likely effect of global warming due to the melting of the polar ice caps. The Day After Tomorrow is highly reminiscent of it. Anyway, some people have even started to call global warming global cooling now.

However, the probability of Global Warming/Global Cooling happening in our lifetime is very low, and it may not even happen in the lives of our children or our grandchildren.

BUt, we should still do what we can in our lives.

Anyway, scientists have linked the recent natural disasters/storms/freak cases with Global Warming which they say have been caused by our pollution of the Earth.

So, I guess it ain't the result of some natural cycle or whatsoever.

Global Warming Impacts and Effects

Effects of Global Warming can already be seen
The IPCC's Third Assessment Report finds that in the last 40 years, the global average sea level has risen, ocean heat content has increased, and snow cover and ice extent have decreased, which threatens to inundate low-lying island nations and coastal regions throughout the world.

US Impacts
In October 2000, a United States Government report found that global climate change may harm the United States by altering crop yields, accelerating sea-level rise, and increasing the spread of tropical infectious diseases.

Predicted Impacts

* More Floods: "Projected adverse impacts based on models include . . . a widespread increase in the risk of flooding for human settlements (tens of millions of inhabitants in settlements studied) from both increased heavy precipitation events and sea level rise."

* Increased spread of infectious diseases: "an increase in the number of people exposed to vector borne diseases (e.g. cholera) and an increase in heat stress mortality."

* Degraded water quality: "Projected climate change will tend to degrade water quality through higher water temperatures and increased pollutant load from runoff and overflows of waste facilities."

* More frequent and more intense heat waves, droughts, and tropical cyclones: "The vulnerability of human societies and natural systems to climate extremes is demonstrated by the damage, hardship, and death caused by events such as droughts, floods, heat waves, avalanches, and storms."

Global Warming Impacts on the US
According to a 2001 report by the National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council, Climate Change Science Global Warming will impact the United States by causing:

* Great Lakes Water Level Decline
"Climate change is likely to reduce water levels in the Great Lakes and summertime river levels in the central US, thereby affecting navigation and general water supplies."

* Snowpack Decline
"It is very likely that as the climate warms, less precipitation will fall as snow, the existing snowpack will melt sooner and faster, the runoff will be shifted from late spring and summer to late winter and early spring."

* Increased Floods
"Climate change is likely to increase flood frequency and amplitude in some regions, with major impacts on infrastructure and emergency management."

* Abrupt Climate Change
A 2002 report by the National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council, also found that warming do to climate change and human activities "may increase the possibility of large, abrupt and unwelcome regional or global climate events." The NAS found that: "Recent scientific evidence shows that major and widespread climate changes have occurred with startling speed, roughly half of the North Atlantic warming since the last ice age was achieved in only a decade, and it was accompanied by significant climate changes across most of the globe."

Thanks for the info, ijoit3k!

I just wanna add on some info.

According to NewsWeek, there's this new bulb out now.

Retailers plan to phase out the production of incandescent bulbs, which means that all of us will probably be using earth-friendly bulbs in the near future.

The bulb:

Also, it has been stated in NewsWeek too that a very good fuel miser is the Ford Escape Hybrid. :)

A picture of the car:

I agree we as the consumers have to play our part to stop global warming. But our efforts alone won't be enough. The major producers of the pollutants are the factories especially in the USA and other developed nations. USA has yet to sign the Kyoto protocol to limit the release of Greenhouse gases. The USA hypocrite government always urge the developing countries to conserve the forest but they didn't do their part themselves.

Well, people talked about it somewhere that the main reason the USA didn't sign up for the Kyoto protocol was because it was impossible.

The Kyoto Protocol's main purpose was to charge those countries who polluted past the pollution limit they were imposed. So far, I think none of the countries have yet to limit its release.

China is now just forking up huge lumps of money to the Kyoto Protocol in order to keep up with its economy, which involves releasing alot of Greenhouse gases.

However, what I'm not sure about is where the money goes to. =\

Perhaps, to help do something good to the world?
