Well, i thought about short stories which do not span more like a scene or two (so nothing insanely long like an ongoing story or s th like that) which fill out the blanks with some character interactions.

My first idea would be leorio confronting kurapica about his absence and change of behaviour in the boat arc, i have a scene in mind there.

Since i suck at writing fighting scenes it would probably come down to unseen interactions and focussing on thoughts of minor characters.

Sounds spicy, but why would Leorio do that /on/ the boat :')

Also we're kinda aware of how Kurapika thinks about all this, not to mention he seems unwilling to discuss it

It is set before they board the ship.

I am not sure whether we know how kurapica thinks about it.
I always found odd that togashi depicted him not taking up the phone when leorio called him.
Something with kurapica has changed. I am not going to try to go into canon territory and make something up about that, but i will adress that.

it's really nothing big tho, it is one scene between them, but it could be nice if i get it right (which is questionable, but still

).

Rereading the boat arc for that so far tho, and looking for their interactions so far.

Edit: okay it is kinda traumatizing for me to reread that and realize once again how fucking good it is and having to break up right after the other princes are introduced once again...

Well, but i got what i was there for. The interactions of them were as i had remembered them.

I will get really drunk tomorrow night and then i am in the mood to write something up, edit it the next day and then i'll see.

KURAPICA AND LEORIO

When you see pictures of the black whale on tv, it looks almost cute.
When you watch it from up close while mist dims your sight, it can look somewhat frightening though.

Not that Kurapica would have been frightened of that. Kurapica had not felt frightened in a long time.
But at the moment, he felt confused.

He still was not sure why Leorio had wanted him to join the Zodiac.
He knew by now that his skills would come in handy, but that would not be Leorio's line of thinking.

Kurapica let out a long sigh.
Well, who was he kidding? It had to do something with Gon, right?

They did not have much time to talk in private, let alone for more than some minutes.
But this was the last night before the black whale would depart.
Preparations were done, there was no excuse to evade him now.
Kurapica had tried, he had gone outside into the mist in hope he would be left alone.

But it had been no good. Leorio had found him on a bench near the water, staring onto the whale.
"Hey buddy. It's freaking cold out here, wanna come in?"
Leorio knew the answer. He was a fool, but not a damn fool.
"I quite like it out here, Leorio. It helps me to clear my mind before tomorrow."
If he wanted to talk, then he would have to endure the cold wind.

"Sure." He sat down. "...Kurapica, i brought a bottle of booze. Do you want to share?"
"I do not drink before a mission."

He tried to hide it, but Kurapica could feel the rage building up inside Leorio.
After a long stare, Leorio opened the bottle.
"Well then, in that case i am drinking for the two of us."

Kurapica said nothing.

"Kurapica...When I called you...", Leorio began and interrupted his sentence by drinking.
"When i called you....What were you doing? Did you think i would call you just to chat?"
"No Leorio. But I was busy."

Kurapica felt more rage building up. But he would not lie. He could at least be that fair, after all.

"Busy?....You were busy. Sure. While Gon was dying and Killuah was facing off his monster brother."

Monster. What a funny word. When Kurapica told a holder of one pair of his brethren's eyes that
he was a monster in human form and had no problem with disemboweling him if he had to, his
collegues thought it was just intimidation. But he meant it.
Only Senritsu noticed it. And then she told him he wasnt.
This had really upset Kurapica, because he knew Senritsu's judgement is rarely wrong.
After all the hestitation, he knew that only a monster would be able to do his brethren's justice.
But there was no point in telling that to Leorio.

"I am very sorry for what happened. And i am glad nothing happened to them."
Leorio's knuckes were pressed tightly onto the bottle, but he tried to remain calm.
"Don't give me fucking empty phrases. I am asking that myself since then: If you knew about Gon's condition, would you have come?"
By this point, a third of the bottle was gone.

Kurapica kept silent, and looked down.
He didnt want to lie. So there was nothing else to say.
By now, there would just be enduring Leorio's rage until he had finished.
He didnt even want to look at him. But he could hear his voice starting to tremble in anger.

"Kurapica.....When you were in Yorkshin again, with Chrollo as your prisoner, and you had the option to once again do the exchange you did back then....LOOK AT ME GOD DAMNIT"
He grabbed Kurapica's shoulder and forced him to look in his direction.
Drops of Salvia and alcohol flew while Leorio screamed with a deep red face.
"IF YOU COULD CHANGE IT, WOULD YOU STILL DO IT AGAIN?"

This is a question Kurapica had asked himself many times.
In a lot of his dreams he was back there.
In some he killed Chrollo, in some he didnt.
But it never felt wrong when he killed him. It was always so easy and exhilarating.
Letting him go sure never was easy.
And the more pair's of eyes Kurapica collected, the more he felt judged by them for letting
the one men responsible for all of their deaths go.

Kurapica's answer to Leorio's question would be the same.
But this time, he could at least muster up the courage to face the man who considered him as a friend.
He at least owed him that much.

The longer the silence was not broken, the less red Leorio's face became.
Now it was pale white.

Kurapica exspected Leorio to hit him, soon.
It would be fine. If that was what he needed to do, so be it.
The sooner he understood the distance between them, the better.
It was better than pretending to uphold a friendship Kurapica was not worthy of having.

Leorio did not punch him.
He put the bottle down.
"So this is how it is. You have changed, Kurapica."
Leorio's eyes and voice were not angry anymore.
But they were hostile. He spoke calmly, but every word was like a cut.
Kurapica had never seen that on him, and it broke his heart.
But he couldnt let himself be wavered by that.

"There is nothing i can say that - "
"Then don't. But i can tell you something you WILL say.
You will explain yourself to Gon and you will explain yourself to Killuah.
I will make sure that you will get your eyes and don't die. And don't think i am doing that for you.
I am doing that for them so they will get closure on that matter, because they would not believe me otherwise.
And after that, i will beat your face to a bloody pulp. And then we are finished too.
Did you understand me, Kurapica?"
Kurapica gave him an incredibly sad smile.
"Yes Leorio. That's fine."

From one moment to another, Leorio's expression mellowed.
It was almost as if he was nearly tearing up.

"Kurapica....When there comes a point on which you think otherwise and apologize for what you have just done...I will be the first to forgive you.
You know that, right?"
Couldn't that big idiot stop? It was hard enough as it was.
"I know, Leorio."

They both sat there for some moments and listened to the waves.

A lot of thoughts went unfiltered through Kurapica's head.
He didnt deserve any happiness in his life until his brethren got their deserved revenge.
He couldnt allow himself get soft and decadent before he could even be sure to have acquired pairo's eyes.
And he most certainly didnt deserve friends who risked their life form him while he was not even sure whether he would sacrifice them.
Yet Leorio sat there. He could have got rid of Gon and kulluah probably, but if Leorio had a talent, it was that he was hard to ignore.
Well what could would it do to ignore him?
Every alarm bell in Kurapica's head rang, but he still asked:

"Leorio...If i still may....Would you give me some of that bottle?"
Leorio smiles, even somewhat excited.
"Sure buddy, this thing won't survive the night."
Kurapica took a big gulp. He wouldnt drink more than that because he needed all his senses tomorrow, but this was about the gesture.
He had a much happier smile on his face when he said: "Let's don't die Leorio. Alright?"
"Don't worry. I made a promise, didnt I?"
"Yeah....Thank you, Leorio."

Soooo, that's it. It is a bit corny, but i said i would do and i did do it. Oh well. I am also somewhat less drunk now, after writing that.
Realizing this is probably the wrong thread, but i am not sure whether opening a new one is good either.
I could always edit that if ppl are bothered by the walls of text tho.

....well....over and out. Sleeping time.

Good, so his volume will be in November. It's not odd, they announced stuff like that for other mangaka early as well.

The volumes contain video interviews so, it means that he's supposed to be able to work at this time. So, it means he should be able to draw and publish his work in the WSJ. Since his volume is scheduled for November 2 I think he'll be back in October at worst.
