So when do yall think we'll get more Gyro stuff? I remember first watching the backstory and thinking it was the most randomly located backstory I've came across, came out of nowhere. I'd still like to hear more about it strange enough, found it interesting.

An encounter with Gon is sure to happen so once we'll get a Gon chapter or a bit before that.

Or maybe on this boat. Gyro can't really ignore the DC stuff, he might have agents on the BW. It's also possible that he met Chrollo before(his prediction was about finding new companions) and Welfin thinks he is at Meteor City or did something like this at least; he is his friend so he knows him well.

I don't know, but at least it would be nice if Togashi didn't leave us in the dark regarding his future plans or his planned schedule. I don't mind if he publishes only 5 chapters a year, but I would really appreciate knowing how much we are going to get and when. The way things are now, we are torn with anxiety fearing he might not come back; if he comes back, we have no idea whether it is going to be in months or years. Maybe transitioning to a schedule like Miura's would be more interesting for him, and it would be easier on the fandom.
It's unofficially 10 chapters every time now. Of course less or more are possibilities but if you are too anxious about the number just assume we'll get ten.

Am I the only one who believes firmly that Gyro became Meruem? He is even wearing half a BLACK NGL drug trafficker coat, for goodness sake. And that backstory helped give a good perspective on Meruem's mentality compared to everyone else. Even the Royal Guards, despite their lack of human memories, possessed quirks likely rooted in their former personas. It happened with Yuupi, at least, going from Magical Beast intelligence to a more Human-based one.

It also fits with how Welfen kept insisting that Gyro was the only King, and yet didn't seem to recognize the truth. I think he even mentions how Meruem reminds him of Gyro, in a way. Not sure though about that. But my rewatch of the series did run across an odd quote that compared the two.

And then we have the fact that Kite became the King's twin sister. Kite and Gyro were sent to the queen around the same general time, or would have been. I'm pretty sure it was implied the Chimera Ant soldier sent him to the Queen for feeding, and we know Kite's brain was fed once Pitou learned he couldn't be resurrected. the timing fits perfectly for Gyro to be eaten, gets lucky and becomes the baseline for the King, Kite pursues a couple days later and is slain, fed and follows as the princess, but doesn't gain much nutrition thanks to the greedy nature of an infant Meruem.

I highly doubt we will ever see Gyro again. He planned to destroy the world or render everyone as miserable as himself. ALL of this is touched upon heavily in Meruem's dialogue attempt with the Chairman. His conflicting, wavering views were not from his Half-ant/Half-human nature, but his nature as the reborn Gyro wrestling with the same dilemma he suffered in life, the difference between ant and man, and how he himself was treated as an ant by his father, and later as a true, apex ant, treated humans as something to squash. His conflict with his greater, more temperate ambitions created a flaw, one that had him wavering between great leader, as he was to his NGL subordinates, and the tyrant he planned to be to the Human World. There were ant-specific complexes attached, but Gyro already had an inhuman pyche, so again it fit the whole theme perfectly, as expected of Togashi.

Without Gyro being Meruem, the entire thing falls apart for me. Meruem's plans outlined to Netero feel sudden and from nowhere, as well as the conflict suddenly escalating from basic appreciation for weaklings like Komugi to complex political and ethnic breeding schemes. And Gyro is a random piece of backstory and worldbuilding that feel incredibly relevant and poignant, only to seemingly vanish.

But they don't. The themes live on. In his second life and death as Meruem.

Visual evidence from the anime is trite in comparison to the philosophical arguments, but the eyes of Gyro as a kid, though black, stare in that same, focused and unblinking way as Meruem's violet orbs, harkening to the similarities shared. This happens with Kite using the same bodily motions in his Chimera Princess body, though his memories were retained.

Let's also not forget the Koala discussing the vicious cycle of how reincarnation did NOTHING to stop him from following the same path he'd taken as a man. Gyro and Meruem ended up following extremely similar goals. And since Gyro's full plans weren't given beyond drug distribution, we have no certainty they weren't along the lines of mass genocide, though we can be sure he would have loved nothing better than to unleash the Ants on the rest of the world, had he known prior to their arrival what would transpire in East Gorteau.

Holy theory Batman, tell us more why don't you my G :mono

Good post though. However it'll be extremely disappointing if he doesn't get touched on again. The combination of Hime, Welfin, and Bizeff I personally thought was hella intriguing when you think about. Hime and Welfin are ants but for Hime who only followed and took orders from Leol, with Welfin's paranoid and reduced state from encountering Meruem, while Bizeff is some sleezy human who is able to manipulate, talk to, deliberate business deals and what not is strange but seems to work somehow. I found them wanting to locate Gyro, who possibly is somewhere in the very world (prob alive), a cool side quest that honestly could impact the main plot if a Gyro turns out to be something of a final villain or a gamechanger in the present part of the story. I'm aware of his impact with the NGL but there has to be more than that. If these 3 make an appearance during DC arc or even Gyro I will be shook. Too bad with the hiatuses, who knows how long it'll be or if it'll ever come to that point. So yeah, I guess in truth it would be dumb not to consider that Gyro stuff could already done.

While he could have survived if Togashi wanted, we had better get an explicit scene showing how he manipulated the most violent and bloodthirsty ant commander of them all and was allowed to escape when the Ants never let anybody go on pretense of just letting them go. If they chose not to hunt and kill them as sport, they went to Ojou-sama. If they wanted to hunt or kill them, they ended up dead. If they wanted pets, they ended up naked and chained like dogs.

Gyro would have to be one hell of a negotiator. One with Nen Manipulator or Specialist powers that let him slip away. Even then, his seat was bloodied, and shredded, and Welfin and the octopus guy, who were his bodyguards that night, were taken. If they got taken, why the hell not Gyro too if he was injured? Like I said, he'd have to be the absolute smartest, slickest, golden-tongued character. Pariston would be an, pardon, ant in comparison to that level of genius.

A genius like Meruem. To me, it just seemed too plausible and implied that he weaseled his way into being sent with his men to the queen rather than become a plaything, however that happened. It all fits too well and the themes connected for me. If it's true Gyro lives... well, I'll not be pleased. The CA arc will go down hill a bit in my estimation. But perhaps Gyro would prove such a remarkable foe that I wouldn't mind.

Still, we have plenty of remarkable and final-boss level antagonists congregating on the boat. Beyond, Chrollo, Pariston, the 1st and 4th Prince, Hisoka <3, the rest of the Spiders, Zoldycks, the King of Kakin, and who knows what else by the end. And then the Dark Continent with its Calamities. It's just too much for Gyro to fit in. And for little reason. He was a drug lord in an undeveloped glorified nature reserve. Sure, he was impressive considering his background, but what could he do in Meteor City compared the sheer scale of the current players on Black Whale 01?

He may not be on the black whale, but it's stated that Chrollo took the Sun & Moon ability from the meteor city elder. I don't see any reason to doubt Sun & Moon's origin, and to my mind it's very unlikely that Chrollo would have taken over leadership of the city itself.

There was definitely an opportunity for someone to take control of Meteor after the elder lost their ability and life, and we never saw or heard anything else about it after Chrollo's fight with Hisoka at heaven's arena. If Gyro were to appear anywhere, alive, the political scene in Meteor City is very fitting for him.

I'm ok with Gon's adventures being essentially done. We enjoyed enough time with him, and his character arc has concluded, along with Killua. This time, it's about Ging and the other Hunters. (I presume Kuropika dies. I just can't see him surviving this. Not with Tserriednick and the Spiders both on the loose. That boat is a death trap, as are his powers. Who knows will will happen next.)

He isn't saying that Gon's adventures are over or anything, he even called him the protagonist. His story isn't over. Ging literally told him that he needs to think about his new goals.

I agree, gon's story cannot be over at this point.
WEll i guess the story of phase 1 is, the story of gon finding ging.

It is interesting that this is true for both protags.

Killua had to find a new goal to not be dependend on gon forever, gon has to find a new goal now too.

There is definitely plot left for gon, aka the gyro storyline and i cannot imagine he will never see killua again in the manga.

Finding a new goal is not a plot, it's a synthom of a story being finished.

Anyway Togashi left lot of space to reset this and give Gon a new goal if he wants to, but as it is now Gon story has finished, and Togashi claimed he want to finish HxH, so you may sum all this and get a conclusion.

Gon's story is not finished. The first part of his story is. He wants to finish HxH yes, but it won't end until we get back to Gon. The story isn't that close to the end.

It would be hard to esimate how much HxH has to go.
I think anything between 60 and 200 chapter is possibly-

So what do you hope to happen in this batch of chapters? I'll take getting more information on that weird room with the capsules, all Nen Beast revealed including their abilities and Hisoka finally appearing.

The banquet, Hisoka's appearance, more Leorio and Zodiacs in general.
