Loved the one-shot. I think it's faithful to the character and doesn't contradict current canon.

Definitely not bad story but the art is another case... It looks absolutely horrendous, and I do hope it gets redrawn.

I, on the other hand, thought the art wasn't too shabby. At the bare minimum I think the artwork is much better than Togashi's usual scribbles.

Still scribbles! At least Togashi's scribbles get redrawn on the volume release. So fingers crossed the same will be done here.

Reading this makes want a crossover of Hisoka schwing to kakuja Eto really would love that.

So I read this and to be honest while it's not a bad story, I didn't think Hisoka's type of character needed one. Hisoka is like DC Comics' Joker. The less you know about him the better. He's a character that should make you question his past and how he ended up who he is, but not give the answer.

It's not by Togashi so I'll give it a pass, but as far as main canon goes I prefer to not know.

Actually there has been a lot of Joker origin stories. Though the canon is ambigious.
The problem is that the Joker is an unreliable narrator and DC retcons anyways.


Hisoka one shot is not really much of an origin story. I mean yes it explains how he developed his powers.
But a true origin story tells how a character became the person they are.

So in that sense Hisoka is like Johan Liebert. We know some of their past but we can't say how or when they became Monsters. Hisoka was blood lusted even before meeting Moritono
