Fantasy Human Selene runs a gauntlet

A character like Selene is perfect for retcons, she's a liar and a manipulator, so when it comes to her character, it's easy to just say she's lying, or it's one of her "distortions" or fake outs.

Yea, which is why she's my least fav DG so far.

Acno is dragon in his "natural state" due to dragonification (similar to Eileen, except he found a way to get back his human form on his own)
Selene is dragon in her "natural state" by birth

Their dragon forms being comparable in PL = their human forms being comparable in PL

But he was also outright stronger than nerfed dragon Merc. He overpowered him in physical combat, and spell power.

Slayer advantage merely turned a high-extreme diff fight into a low-mid diff fight, thats all

Can't trust Mashima on anything now since he's retconning shit left and right (yea, I don't think he has any long term plans at all)

Not in durability though, and thanks to Ignia he lost his ocean, which was his most deadly move. Overpowering the roar is all well and good, but it's not enough. Natsu stated he needed team Natsu to win, which means even with slayer advantage he's weaker than Merc.

Pretty clear that Natsu didn't even need them....he was stomping Merc well before they came and helped, then one punched him. If Merc was stronger he wouldn't have been so injured or have all his magic burned by Natsu.

He only called for help because he got bothered by Ignia's words imo.

Because Mercphobia had all of his MP. He just couldn't control it. Apparently being able to control your MP is just as important as having it. It's like how the curse of contradictions messes with Zeref's ability to control his magic. Doesn't necessarily lower his actual MP level, but makes him ineffective all the same. In Mercphobia's case, I can only assume he's just bad at controlling his power because none of the other god dragons have this problem. I guess "1 in 5" god dragons suffer from this. Physically, Mercphobia should still be capable of brawling with the other god dragons,

Magic sealing cuffs make you weaker in a brawl too, even though they're not actually taking your mp away, just sealing it. Logically this is the same for Merc having his powers sealed by Faris.

He was talking about Ignia in that moment and if he seriously thought he needed help he was clearly underestimating himself considering he was treating Merc like a child before he asked for help and got him weak enough to be affected by the rest of the team, who we know are absolute fodder to 50% Merc.

But even if your explanation was correct, the possibility of his MP still existing in him doesn't mean he was stronger, just like with the sealing cuffs, if you can't use it, it's useless. Natsu can't even bust out of a jail cell with them on.
