Anime Hunter X Hunter Anime- Fall 2011

I am on your side mrsticky :P I do want it to be different, I've read (most) of the manga and seen the 1999 series a bunch of times. That's why episode 24 was probably my favorite episode cause it brought something new to the table for Canary's character. It would be cool to see most things like it is in the manga (its mostly better this way). Just when things are translated from books to film sequences of events sometimes change for pacing reasons. I wasn't trying to imply I want the series to be 1999 series again (not at all)

I think futurefrog's suggestion would be neat too, expanding on his character. So Mizuken? That's seriously his name? I have the 2004 guide book but :P I don't read japanese very well, can anyone tell if his name is mentioned prior to the new series? I'm excited to see what sort of fillers we'll get (nothing big just small touches) in the next few episodes. This is where I first really heavily fell in love with HxH and its happening all over again XD. I'd be really happy if we got indepth Conjurer training details maybe or Mizuken talking with the Hunter Committee (we know they informed him about Kurapika or was that 1999 filler? I know Wing finds out about Kurapika later on too)

Would anyone want more Phantom Troupe foreshadowing or do we already have enough as it is? I am thinking we have enough, but I wonder if they'll add anything with Machi's tiny cameo in Heaven's Arena this time around.

This is the first instance of his name. It has never been said prior, which gives extra gravitas to the theory that he will recieve a filler expansion. It also leads me to believe he may in fact return in the manga in the future (Togashi is said to be working alongside Madhouse afterall). I would be interested to see him somehow connected to Kurapika's storyline once the manga returns, that is if he can prove to be an interesting enough character (we have only seen a few pages of him). Would be interesting to say the least.

Mousiehamster, from my recollection you are a big fan of the 99 series, what did you think of this episode in comparison with it's 99 counterpart?

This is one anime that has me doing back flips every time i see an episode... this has slowly became my fav manga/ anime currently haha

There are some interesting differences between them. I liked the way Nen is depicted in 2011, being a good deal more flamboyant whereas the nen in the 99 series, particularly for characters in York Shin, was an ugly smudge (that hideous green buzz surrounding the Injuu for example). Its depiction was also rather inconsistent imo. On the other hand, I preferred 99's take on the sound effects, which sounds sort of like a yoga mantra ("OM") heavy on the vibrations - makes sense, considering that Nen is a projection of ones will and is something intrinsically cerebral. In fact the character Nen in chinese means "mantra", "will", "idea" or "desire" . In the 2011 version the aura sounds like swirling wind emitted from the body.

Glad to see the series has made it very explicit that the Gido and his buddies suffered some real consequences from their initiation, a deliberate contrast to the 1999 series. I'm guessing the director of the '99 series simply missed out on the detail to be honest (seemed to be something quite tame to censor).

Also interesting to see the name of Gido's hatsu flashing on screen when he performed the move. I didn't find it off putting. The 99 series played it straight.

Visually in this episode the 2011 series wins. The characters are detailed and Hisoka was magnificently devilish. I found it strange how Zushi was portrayed though. Lots of slanting eyebrows that make him look darkly ambitious in this ep upon seeing Gon and Killua's aura. In the 99 series as well as the manga I recall that Zushi was amazed instead.

I have been thinking about subs lately. It's interesting how reading subs has gone from me having trouble multi tasking between what the subs say and what is going on screen to getting to the point where you don't even notice you are reading subs. It's gotten to the point where I tricked my brain into thinking that the Japanese voice are speaking in English, if that makes any sense.

Yeah I don't have any PROBLEM reading subs. It's just I MUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCH prefer to hear it dub.

Hell I even like live action foreign films better in dub. I don't care how stupid it sounds at least I speak the same language.

It's just more comfortable to me.

Not to mention. I'm a fan of English dub. I find the dub more entertaining.

Speaking of dubs, I honestly didn't dig the HxH dub and one of the biggest things that excites me about the reboot actually is seeing it adapted in english with a more dedicated director and cast for the dubbed version (should we ever get it). Yu Yu Hakusho has one of my favorite dubs, and when I was getting more into anime Hunter x Hunter (1999) was one of my first subtitled shows! At this point though its pretty darn natural for me to read subs, but as a YYH dub fan I can't help but cross my fingers for a Funimation dubbing of HxH one day. I think Viz is very hit or miss with their dub work in general ( though I think its because they outsource to various studios).

Does anyone think the new HxH stands a chance of getting a US tv broadcast?

I checked out the old version for the current events, and man! This time, the old version is the one feels rushed! Here's a comparison:

Old: 4 minutes and 56 seconds
New: 8 minutes and 41 seconds

-Second Scene: Breaking through Hisoka's Barrier:
Old: 1 minute
New: 2 minutes and 20 seconds

-Third Scene: Registration:
Old: 4 minutes and 3 seconds
New: 4 minutes and 25 seconds

Old: 41 seconds

Ok is it just me or do the Japanese DVDs of the 1999 series seem sorta Tite Kubo-ish?
I mean they just show the character posing, some nice fashion and a general blank background. Here's a comparison.

Though I think the 2011 series has the best covers. They're colorful and dynamic.
Like how Hunter x Hunter should be. Though I wonder if they'll ever implement
Togashi's chibi style into any of the covers? Or you know what would be cool?

I've always loved the OVA covers. They're so pretty ! And the new series' covers are pretty awesome! I especially like the one with the blimp with Gon and Hanzo and a VS between them.

Back to Hunter X Hunter: Hunterpedia omake at the end of the episodes are really cute! But the first one seemed a bit redundant, its alright so far but my hope for it is to actually goes over series tidbits the anime normally can't cover. Like maybe going over Nen details, or other things like how in Yorknew arc you get pages like this:

I already love what Mad House is doing with Gon and Killua Hunterpedia, They use that time To Show and give us information, that could not have been given during the episode like peoples Nen Category etc

Yu Yu Hakusho has a great dub, I really like it. Also, Death Note had a amazing dub also, and Since Death Note's anime was created by Mad House I hope this series gets a great dub also, (Its sad to say but some anime have some really horrible dubs, not that the voices don't match to me, its just that some voices are just overdone and become annoying or too playful, while some nail it head on as too where it can show a wide range of emotions.) Also, FMA had a pretty good dub also, especially Ed's voice, one of my favorites. So I hope if Hunter X Hunter gets a dub, it will be good.
