I really liked this episode. A lot. Ok, given, intro song was not that great...But I want to know what they changed of the lyrics. I did not paid attention to them, someone who has a charitable soul can do that comparison?

Undoubtedly Killua is addicted to chocobot.

And I laughed when Gon and Killua mocked Zushi. LOL; it's so nice to see them always in the same page xD

Anyway, at first when I saw Ren from Zushi and the scream from Wing I was a bit disappointed thinking that they will do Nen as a silly aura around the characters. Then I saw the ending and I KNOW that they're doing that now to avoid showing more until proper Nen is revealed, same as they did with Zebro.
Gyo in the ends looks amazing. If they can achieve doing the same aura around the body...It will be perfect.

Opening and Ending (pics) feel like heavy spoilers, now curious non-manga like fans will search for them...
But I like the posing of the characters...except that the half (or near the end) of the opening madhouse becomes lazy and didnt bother to change...
So madhouse is following official colors (???) now????

Having read many opinions from the Western side, I am wondering why the Japanese literally *hate* the new series so much.
This is a (non-exhaustive) list of what they are complaining about (from 2ch/niconico):

- Background music is not dark/serious enough
- Too colorful, atmosphere not dark enough
- Odd character design
- Killua/Gon are too short, "child like"
- Killua's/Gon's voice is too childish
- Too little blood/violence
- Illogicality - e.g. Gon only passed the Zoldyck test gate with the help of Leorio and Kurapika, yet was able to advance in the Celestial Tower with ease

And they are attributing all these to the director of the new series, Hiroshi Kōjina, whom they thought "had no sense in making the anime". To them, the old series was literally the definition of what is good.

Well, it may indeed be difficult to judge the new series fairly considering how much of an impact the old series had on fans of the older generation. However, I think we should at least give the new series a chance, considering that there is potential for it to "get serious" in the later parts.

I think those Japanese fans are our batch mate coz that where usually what we'll gonna complain about...
but overall I think not all of them... so many art works and comments in iinternet are spawning already.... and I think most of them are positive...

She is not.

It is interesting how they made killua shorter than gon in this one. Although it is kind of inconsistent, some scenes has Gon taller, while other have Killua a bit taller, and some scenes where they are the same height.

And yes, I've read some of them here and there as well...But it's nostalgia mostly. If you analyze and compare, then you realize that both versions were quite similar when doing this. Animation was better in this version, though, and they nailed better the backgrounds if you ask me. Celestial Tower is not an outcast place, is a very popular building that have many followers as you can see in the 50th floor.

haters gonna hate, but it's not eastern opinion the ones you read. In my knowledge, the ratings are going pretty good and overall opinion is positive.

Fantastic. Typically, it's one of the top ten most viewed anime series every week in Japan.

This was a great episode. While the first arc used Pokemon as an inspirational foundation, this newest arc is more Dragonball-esque. It's reminiscent of the Tenka'ichi Budokai tournament. Gon's opening "push" move especially--that's a direct homage to Goku. And the Goten / Trunks vibe is definitely supposed to be there.

However, as you may have realized, Hunter x Hunter is starting to delve more into its characters' psychologies. For instance, when Gon first pushed his opponent out of the ring we get this interesting little scene: Gon looks down at his hand and contemplates his newfound strength. "Was I always this strong before?" It's something new to him. He is in awe of how much his strength has increased. He stares and somewhat likes it. Really pay attention to how often you see this around this arc.

There'll be another arc like Dragonball Z in the later future too; it's quite something.

Gon being taller than Killua is one of the things I dislike about this adaptation (I like this version overall, just not as much as I do the old series), because it is very illogical and contradicts the manga. Killua's parents are taller than Ging (we don't know nothing about Gon's mother yet, but her being taller than Ging is about as likely as a snowball's chance in Hell) + Killua has had much better nutrition than Gon has since his family is filthy rich + He has been training since a very young age in martial arts + His brothers are quite tall (Illumi 185, Milluki 182 (and hasn't stopped growing), even Kalluto (who is 2 years younger than Gon) was 150 cm, while Gon's height was only 154 cm), so by all means Killua should be 4 or 5 cm taller than Gon as in the manga. Perhaps the makers of this anime wanted to emphasize that Gon is the protagonist and thus gave him some additional cm out of nowhere.

Anyway, this episode is a very good opening for the new arc.

I'm pretty sure that complaints are largely from butt-hurt 1999 WESTERN anime fans. And yes, I'm one of those "old fans" who sees this version (at this moment) to be better than the old anime series.

I'm getting fed up seeing this "reason" from fans so if you don't mind, I would like you to list these illogical and contradictory things you speak of.

Also, have you really look at Gon's house in the manga and the 2011 version? Is that a "poor" boy's kind of house?

Yeah, you are right. I should not have made a blanket statement. Of course there were good comments from the Japanese fans as well. My main point was that it is still too early to make a definitive judgment of the new series. Probably the only point which I agree fully was the illogicality one. The change in the new anime in the test gate part downplayed Gon's strength, but somehow the director did not make any explanation about the strength Gon currently has. Maybe this is to pave way for an original arc.
Also, when Killua asked whether Gon cleared the test gate, Gon just answered "yes" and this seemed to some to be a bald-faced lie, as that is equivalent to saying that he did it all by himself. And lying does not seem to be Gon's "cup of tea". To some, this undermined Gon's setup as an innocent youth.

The problem is, Gon is NOT innocent. Naive at best and a little stupid at worst but he is not an innocent kid. He will not outright lie if possible but he will if it's necessary... just that he's not very good at lying so he opt to, shall we say, leave out details to get around that (look at the 4th exam when he took Ponzu's tag).

Have you watched the old series and then just read the manga where it left off? Because the 1999 series Gon is very different from the manga Gon.

This anime is so BA!!
It follows the story so well and the vibrant colors is so appealing
Zushi is boss, I hope to see him soon in manga when the hiatus ends
Can't wait for the epic Gon vs Hisoka fight!

Honestly at this point I don't even care anymore.
As long as they do the episodes justice. If it ends
up being one chapter at a time but they do it REALLY well.
Well then I'll be happy. Though I think they are going back to two chapters a episode.

On the preview of the next episode. Notice how the girl standing next to Hisoka
gets scared. Well actually in the manga she just sorta stands there even
while Hisoka has his malicious aura going.

THUS MAKING HER THE MOST HARDCORE HEAVENS ARENA EMPLOYEE EVER.

Though I suppose they thought that if animals get the heebie jeebies
from Hisoka's aura than so should some random Heavens Arena employee.

But anywho I'm giving this episode 9/10

Only reason no 10/10 is because of the opening being too similar.
And I do think Wing's shout was a bit weak. Of course that's nothing a
good English dub can't fix. But overall it's hard to ask for more from
this episode. I think they did great and it looks to get even better.

Zushi's fight was done excellent. They did it justice.


Next is learning about nen and then GON VS GIDO!

I forgot about one more moment--after Killua decides that they're going to the top floor of Heavens Arena, Gon has an interesting thought.

"Actually, that was my intent from the beginning."

Money wasn't the main issue for Gon. Seemingly, it's the act of fighting itself that's more important to him than anything else. Training to get stronger. But for what purpose and why?
