Yea that's basically it in a nutshell. This is one of my least favorite changes in the 1999 series. So I'm really hoping they are done up right this time around! It could be argued that the first two are still paralyzed but its definitely one of the heaviest censorships to me because it changed the severity of their "Initiation" and thus makes them seem less desperate and the 200th floor less scary to the viewer. Also I think Riehlvelts wheel chair was changed to an electric scooter? Or something like that, from the next time preview's it seems like a proper wheel chair this time.

Judging my Riehlvelt alone, huge improvement so far! Red Gido is pretty interesting too.

So let me get this... in the old series Riehlvelt got a tricycle instead of being a crippled on a wheelchair..

Gido still has his legs...

And Sadaso got two arms instead of one.

What? They didn't want Gon and Killua to look bad by beating up people with special needs or something?!

the great part is why was Gido unable to continue fighting in the 1999 version...if he still had his legs?

Like I said earlier, we never see Riehlvelt or Gido walk in 1999, so TECHNICALLY, they could still be handicapped in the 1999 series. It's still censored since it feels more ambiguous and Sadaso obviously can use his arm. it's not wrong to imply they are all still able to walk, but at the very least his main ability to spin fast was destroyed.

Haha, I actually laughed when I first saw these guys (before reading the manga) I thought they were still goofy pathetic characters, but the manga adds that layer of damaged warriors to them that makes them a lot more interesting to me.

That is pretty much one of the problem I had with the change . I don't really like red gido, it's too striking.
To me ,those guy were just useless and pathetic as nen users.Not exactly looking forward in seeing them No wonder why they were stuck at that floor and had to resort to dirty tricks to win.

The color scheme for all three of them looks great. Madhouse has yet to disappoint me with their choice of colors for characters.

I had always imagined Gido as red when reading the manga. I don't know why. I never imagined him being dark gray like in the 99 series. Anyone got a screencap of Sadaso in 2011 series?

Good to see Madhouse keeping the guys as handicaps. Riehvelt looks pretty dorky on that scooter, but I think Sadaso looks pretty cool with his arm outside of sleeve. Makes him look like a samurai.

As for the trailers, I have to admit I like em. I do hate how they spoil everything though, like Killua's trailer should have ended with them asking if he can live on his own instead of adding illumi, and leorio's could have done without the snake scene. but all in all they at least tried to keep people hooked with the whole "will they make it or not" shtick. and while spoileriffic, I liked gon's trailer especially, since it really made it look epic that gon was even living after all that, which is something alot of other shows and stuff fail at.

Wow thanks SHINOBI-03 for the comparison, I completely forgot how far 1999 series went to change the enemies' handicap to make Gon and Killua appears more innocent...that's awful. I hope the new one doesn't do that.

Strange that it didn't even register how 'mess up' can be when I read the manga that these guys are handicapped. I did frown a little when Gon broke the spinning guy's standing rod, I always found that scene cruel. Now I wonder how did they get up to floor 200 in the first place? I remember weapons aren't allowed in the lower floors.

As for someone mentioned they never realized how uneven and poorly drawn the 1999 series was, I think most people only remember the glory part (the Yorkshin) where the art quality was stable and top notch. They tend to ignore that anything before that was very uneven, even for its time (nah this 'back in those days' excuses doesn't work cause there were other series back in the 90s where the drawings are better than that). Particularly Gon's face, he always looked almost pedestrian as his eyes are drawn like a background character and his face constantly changes.

While I think it was definitely inconsistent (only about half the episodes had what I'd refer to as the A team animating it), I never thought the 1999 series was "poorly" drawn when compared to several popular 90's anime. ( off the top of my head :dragonball, yuyuhakusho, early trigun,early onepiece, mobile fighter g gundam,bad days of evangelion etc)

Hmm, I'm torn honestly. I think the fingers make more sense, but yea the knife coming from a child! That is straight up scary. Holding it under his throat would make more sense to me though.

I don't think the fingers in the 1999 series made sense because those handicapped guys never witness Killua's sharp nails and heart-snatching, they wouldn't felt threatened by a child's hand. At most he only showed his judo-chop in the lower floors, which is not as threatening.
I think it's just pure censorship - they didn't want kids to see a cool child character threatening others with a knife, bad influence and all...

I wouldn't be surprise if the new version censored it the same way.

BTW did anyone notice how they ADDED blood in when Killua punched Zushi?
You don't actually see that in the manga. At least not so obviously.

Yes that was interesting as it was an instance in which blood was added. There was no blood in that scene in the manga, so I found it very interesting and it gives me hope for things to come. I strongly believe Killua will have a knife and we will see Kastro vs. Hisoka with minimal censorship.

Yeah I think if they could show Gon cutting his own eye with a knife that they would show Killua simply threatening Sadaso with a knife instead of actually using it. The eye scene also gives me incredibly high hopes for Hisoka vs Kastro.

Well cutting your eye is completely different form have your hands ripped of, and eating one of them....

well yes the latter is definitely more brutal but keep in mind that it is a KID cutting his own eye. People tend to be more sensitive to violence when it involves children or young teens.

I think Hisoka vs Kastro will be minimally censored and by that I mean it won't go into
too graphic detail on the dismembered arm. Like you won't see all the nerve endings
and all that.
