Kurapika IS Furuhashi's favorite character:

- Gave him REAL swords instead of wooden ones
- Made his fight with Hisoka before anyone else AND in full detail.
- Ended the Heavens Arena arc quickly so he can go to Yorknew arc where Kurapika shines.
- Didn't make Kurapika look like a bad guy by making him feel guilt while hurting and killing Uvogin.
- He made Uvogin and Pakunoda haunt his dreams and further make him feel the guilt.
- He didn't want him to live like a cold blooded killer and wanted him to die regretting his actions.

You think that's bad? Watch Chobits (By the same studio). It was 28 episodes and it had 4 recap episodes.

Madhouse are known for recap eps in times in which ratings are usually low (public holidays, end of seasons etc.) You can probably expect one after Heaven's Arena. I don't mind them as they are sometimes a necessary evil, as they give animators a much deserved break as well as a refresher between seasons for people who haven't been following religiously.

What I hate the most is that in 30 or so episodes we get 2 or 3 filler recap episodes. I can understand when anime is getting close to manga and has to give time for manga to advance, but now with 340 chapters to work with why was that necessary?

The recaps seem to be for scheduling reasons (holidays), basically a break between seasons.
I don't get the outrage, just skip those episodes.

For those who are skeptical about the violence and gore in the upcoming Chimera Ant, let me tell this:

The human violence will definitely get toned down, but for the ants, the studio got an advantage...

THE ANTS ARE NOT HUMANS

And since they are not humans, that means the studio can get creative with them. Because unlike regular humans, Japan got no problem with freaks and monsters get slashed to pieces or spray blood from their wounds.

Example #1: Dragon Ball Z:

Since a lot of DBZ cast were alien and bizarre looking creatures, they were able to show a lot of violence.

Vegeta punched Kiwi so hard that his guts spewed out of his body.

Namekians are green, had purple blood, and can regenerate = no problem

Vegeta stomps on the dead Appule's head

Freeza's blood is read, but that's okay since he's an alien.

Gurd's head got decapitated and rolled and no one cares for the four eyed alien.

Take a look at Cell's perfect body from the inside.

Babidi's head explodes, he's an alien and his blood is purple, no problem again.

A human's head explodes? Cover it!

Example #2: BLEACH:

The enemies are mostly monster looking and they were able to get away with it for the most part.

Grand Fisher bled through his body

Hollows losing their body pieces.

Green blood. Because Hollows can have it.

Do you think they'd make Kenpatchi slice Giriko in half if they didn't make him green?

Tsukishima is a human and he's not allowed to lose his arm...

But Komamora is allowed to because he's not human

Example #3: Naruto:

Not only do they slice a monster in half, but they made it rain blood all over the place! And this is coming from the same series that censored decapitations, exploded arms and holes in chests.

So, I'm not worried if they'll gonna pull some crazy tricks up their sleeves. In fact, I think they'll do the same with the Shadow Beasts since they are not humans either. But like I said, the human gore is the problem.

To be fair Dragonball is very old and most of the scenes you showed are censored compared to the manga version, (in particular Gurd/Guldo's death scene vs Vegeta, its way more graphic in the manga). But I agree with you, inhuman characters tend to be a barrier that make them less relatable and more fantasized so we can do more violent things to those types of characters. Let the ant bloodshed begin!

One Piece has plenty of this kind of violence as well. Look at Little Garden arc or when Luffy fights Laboon the Whale or even Strawhats vs CP9.

Yeah yeah yeah but Kastro vs Hisoka isn't one of these leaving-to-imagination throw away battles. I want to be shown NOT told. Hisoka is too big a personality to for that. And I want to see Hisoka's showmanship, I want to see Hisoka in trouble (such a rare moment in the series). The 1999 series' director made a stupid choice in denying the audience that, Togashi already illustrated the fight in details anyway.

Well, if you want to see a further proof, watch American cartoons. Do you think we would get the same effects if they were using human characters?

Just the first few notes actually. I vaguely recall the song being used in another future event involving Nobunaga. So two scenes, one of them "borrowing" a couple of notes. I wouldn't say that it's "used fairly frequently".

Wow, what an absolutely brilliant episode. As good an adaptation of Hisoka vs. Kastro we could have asked for. Now can all the Madhouse doubters pipe down about this series? Haha 10/10.

It was pretty good though I still would have had preferred a double episode of Hisoka vs Kastro with all of the last episode and the first half of this episode.
And then have the next episode be the second half of this episode and the first half of 33. Analyzing the fight as soon as it was over just felt a little soon
for me and since we get even more analysis next week it almost seems like "we're still talking about that fight?" Whereas a double episode of the full fight
and then the full analysis in the next episode is like first here's the fight then while you're waiting for the next episode you're thinking "How did Hisoka do that?"
Then you get the answers in the next episode. But of course they didn't do that. Oh well. It's not that I think the episode was bad it's just my preference.

Actually the episode was done very well.

I notice that they didn't show Hisoka using Gyo but I'm pretty sure it was for spoiler reasons.
We'll probably see the scene with Hisoka staring down Kastro with Gyo in the next episode.

But man...Hisoka MURDERED Kastro.
