Beastly episode was beastly.

I felt this episode playe itself out rather nicely the first half being the fight and second half bearing explanations felt nicely done to me. It was great being able to rewatch the fight animated, and how kastro ultimatly went down was nicely creepy. I like menchi's voice sofar, though I haven't heard the old version its a very nice and fitting voice. I liked how they were just talking to each other like underworld people: its quick, but you KNOW these aren't the same people you'd find in the chase bank line... or maybe they are, but you don't want to run into them! Did I mention I liked the OST's used in the second half? Makes me anxious to see what they'll use next! Its kind of hard for me to say anything else as it was just simply a great episode. I can't wait to see how they'll do Gon vs. Hisoka!

Really cool chapter. Blood wasn't lacking, although I prefer it a bit more messy and "splashy". But it was good anyway.
I like how they're showing the techniques so far. The four basic principles at least and how they color aura. At first I thought they would do it as the original series, but now I notice that they're being coherent with it. No color, no property. Just aura, something that flows. Zetsu looks like a shadow over someone and that was incredible done. Ten is like a barrier and they grasped that as well. And Ren it's just increasing the aura, so it's logical to have diverse sizes for each character that uses it (Notice the difference between Zushi and Kastro, for example) And they colored Hisoka Bungee Gum, so it has sense with Transformation later.
I am pleased by that.

Some gifs. Does anyone enjoyed how they're portraying playful Hisoka so far? HUH?

And I like how they're portraying Machi so far. Voice is not best fitting, but isn't the worst. I'll work nicely.

Now! this was seriously an amazing! episode. This easily tops last weeks episode imo, and the anime didn't shy away from showing blood either. Madhouse actually showed Hisoka pulling a card out of his arm!! I'm really happy now that I was finally able to see my 2nd favorite fight in Hunter x Hunter animated. Also the way Kastro died anime was crazy!

Machi's voice actress was great. I'm also glad the anime thoroughly explained Hisoka's "Bungee gum", and "texture surprise" nen ability too.

I got chills with the way Kastro was killed off. Of course we got the magic trick. I thought the explanation of the fight was the most impressive. You just don't see that level of depth to explain a fight in a shonen. Looking forward to Killua next week

Did anyone else love Machi's monologue about Hisoka? I thought her delivery was spot on and the revelation that Hisoka (who was just revealed as one of the Spiders) is actually deceiving her just goes to add further gravitas to her words 'He is his own man'. It was a perfectly captured moment.

Yeah I thought it was neat how they had Machi and Hisoka talk about the fight. In the manga all that appears to be narrated.

Also hope we get knife Killua

and I hope it ends with the narrator saying "Killua wins by default". Then the end credits. That would be beast.

Yeah Madhouse did a good job on this episode. They certainly handled Hisoka's characterization really well. 10/10

The only thing is why Hisoka was actually speaking about past when saying Bungee Gum was his fav gum? But meh, it fitted greatly so I'll just let it pass =3

He says that in the manga as well. It's the only hint at all that we have ever gotten about Hisoka's past to date.

If I remember correctly, in the manga the whole explaining, as well as this part, was done by narrator.

No, I agree that it shouldn't have been left out. I just think that the circumstances were rather peculiar. Perhaps there was pressure from the broadcasters or something because the Kastro fight actually had its own theme song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkgJ9oAQtKk&feature=relmfu

I don't know if the fight had its own theme song or not, but any way, that does not change the fact that the old version skipped the whole thing.

I liked that they used the Phantom Troupe theme song when Machi was talking about them.

This episode was the best. 10/10

Another magnificent episode.

Spoiler: Episode 32 - Anime vs Manga

I guess that scene replaces the hand chomp that we see in the manga.

Hisoka's math problem was perfect. The riddle was shown in a way the viewer can keeps up with him, and the best part is they actually show Hisoka pulling the card from his stump! Note the difference in design between the two versions.

Again, we don't see the exact moment of the amputation. Also, if you look closely, you can see something coming out of the arm like it's supposed to be blood, but it's yellow and hard to see under the spotlights.

Hisoka's remark on the dirt on the real Kastro is in the manga, however, we don't see his eyes glow.

The mighty has fallen! This scene was wonderful and Hisoka's theme was fitting for his victory.

And now we see Machi. The design, the voice and the personality are all cool with me. And isn't it convenient that she's available at this moment? I wonder what would Hisoka do about his arms if she wasn't present!

Machi's nen threads had a great effect with the blue on the dark background. In the manga with the exception of the first scene, we don't see the threads. This made me a bit confused and didn't get exactly what she was doing. The camera shutter sound effect was a nice touch. Hisoka's "Be gentle with me" wasn't in the manga. Also, is it me or does he enjoy the stitching a bit too much?! Look at his face while she's doing it!

Three things we didn't get to see. The first is a detailed look at Hisoka's stumps, the second the gush after turning the aura off, and third Machi nipping the thread off.

Then we get to know Hisoka's two special abilities: "Bungee Gum" and "Texture Surprise". In the manga, the explanation was either by the narrator or Machi's monologue. This was made into a dialogue between the two. The same thing was done with the explanation of Hisoka's tricks in the fight.

The next dialogue between gon and Killua was not in the manga.

In the final scene, Machi described Hisoka in a monologue. In the manga, this was narrated.

The final moment was cool when Hisoka slapped the fake tattoo on the mirror. And speaking of which, how did they put the tattoo on? Texture Surprise mimics the looks, but not the feeling. How did they put the tattoo without noticing that they are doing it on a fake surface and not on his actual back?

Spoiler: Episode 32 - Old vs New

When Hisoka got out of the arena in the old version, the shadowed him in a way you can't see him at all. In the new version we see him clearly. The old version gave us some glimbs of the fight, but they were vague and no explanation was given.

The stitching process in the old version was not as directly looking as the manga and the new version. It was done in a way that you can't see the tips of Hisoka's arms. Id did give us a detailed look of the wounds on Machi's eyes and they show us when she cuts the threads. And to be honest, I like the sound effect in the old version more than the new one.

Machi's personality in the old version feels cold and unemotional. In the new version they gave her more emotions that we get to see in her interactions with Hisoka.

The old version completely ignored the gum and texture and showed nothing about them. They tried to give an explanation to the gum in Hisoka vs Gon fight, but they tried to make it like a sad story and they failed miserably about it.

But the biggest difference here is the message scene. In the manga as well as the new version, Machi comes and stitches Hisoka's arms back, gives him the message and leaves afterwards and we never see her again. In the old version she leaves for a bit and comes back to give him the message after his fight with Gon. Which brings up the question why didn't she tell him the message from the start instead of waiting all this time! Plus, because she stayed and watched his match with Gon, it creates a plothole in the upcoming events when the Spiders captures Gon and Killua and she doesn't recognize Gon whom she saw fighting with Hisoka. Hisoka's tattoo and shower scene is shown for the first time here as well instead of after his fight with Kastro.

Maybe Hisoka just copied the tatoo texture and told spiders that he has already got a tatoo by himself? =D
We actually don't know if the Phantom Troupe members control the tattoing of new members or the newcomers think of it themselves.

Like everyone else, I loved how they pulled off the Kastro fight. Even with the (minor) censorship, the episode was very faithful to the manga. A very satisfying episode that I think many of us were anxious about.

Yeah, I agree. I liked the extended dialogue between the two as well (Hisoka explaining his inspirations and Machi expressing a lack of interest), it gave a bit more depth to their relationship. A very fitting way to reveal Hisoka's profile. Hopefully they'll do something similar for the Ryodan members (eg. Franklin deliberately chopping off his finger tips).

I wouldn't mind eventually knowing a few things about Hisoka's past, even if he himself doesn't care/doesn't remember. Maybe Hisoka's dad is Kefka??

The fight was awesome: better than I expected and nearly perfect. It would've been perfect if they had added that remark of Hisoka's about Kastro being enhancement but misusing his potential and wasting his nen on a technique suited for another Nen type and not his own.

I was worried about Machi's voice, but it's good, great even, at times. I also have to say I love her new appearance. At least some of my worries have been put to rest.

The scene in Hisoka's room was... okay. I get that they needed to find some way to incorporate that explanation of Hisoka's tricks, and they chose to put the words in the characters' mouth, but, unlike a few people above, I liked it much better in the manga where it was done by the narrator, and the scene with Machi and Hisoka was short. In the manga you really could see that Machi wasn't fond of being in Hisoka's company and was hardly inclined to talk to him at all, much less at length, but, well, you can't have it all. The part where Genei Ryodan was mentioned was perfect, though, and, being a girl, I appreciated the fanservice-y bath scene, and the ending bit with the fake tatoo was powerful as well, so I'm perfectly content for now.

The thing is that it was said in the manga itself where did Hisoka's abilities names come from. When speaking about Phantom Troupe, their info was on the cover page. I think it will be covered as a bonus in the Gon and Killua's Huncyclopedia. On the other hand, everything mentioned in Huncyclopedia is mentioned in anime as well, so maybe there'll be some bonus talk about Troupe members.

As we know, starting from about Yorknew, the chapters get shorter. So I've recently counted the pages, and I can say that Yorknew and Greed Island are both about 55 19-page chapters long (~52 for Yorknew+Kaito flashback; ~58 for GI), while Chimera Ants Arc is about 111 chaps long. That's not to mention that pages become less informative than in early HxH.
That means that both Yorknew and GI would last about 25 episodes each. And both would finish mid-season with NGL arc starting-finishing mid-season as well. As we've seen until now, Madhouse are trying their best to finish each 13-ep pack on a great moment. And they don't want to rush things as well. Do you guys think they'll drag the story to finish GI by the 100 episode or not? What other options do you think they have? I thought from the beginning that they'd cover GI by the 3rd season's end, but now I doubt it. On the other hand, some chapters do miss extra scenes, so that might help.
