this last anime episode seals it...

im going to buy all of the manga volumes on amazon. im not a big fan of the Edited Mangas with all of the scribbles, but i hear the art is much better in the volumes and this is a good way to start my manga collection that i have been planning of my favorite titles

I think I'll get all the Magi and Hunter x hunter volumes too! But for now I'll just get the one that has the king on the cover because I don't really have a place to display them >.> and Magi only has 4 volumes and fifth is coming out soon.. One day I'll start my collection too :P

Togashi really likes playing with gender. Honestly, regarding Alluka/Nanika, what if he's biologically a male but identifies as a female-thus he's technically a brother, but Killua refers to 'him' as his sister? Or what if he's just meant to be ambiguous. Gender in HxH and even in YYH wasn't always clear cut, obviously male or obviously female. It's something not typically associated with a shounen series (more likely josei or shoujo is some regards).

See the thing is in the Japanese versions (and the translations) even when Killua refers to Alluka as a 'girl' he does so with quotation marks. Not Girl but Girl. It'd be clear cut if he referred to Alluka the same way the rest of his family does, or at least if the rest of the family cared about Alluka instead of fearing her/him, but there's enough evidence either way I guess. Killua is seemingly the only one who cares about Alluka as a person, while it's true his mom who gave birth to the kid would probably know the gender best, and she seems to refer to Alluka as a boy. So the OG poster is probably the most correct here in saying Nanika is a female, and Alluka is a boy.

What doesn't come through in translation however, is that Alluka has a very feminine way of speaking....which only makes things even weirder.

Though yes. I agree that Togashi scoffs at gender identification. He's evolved past the need to have genders to identify people and draw manga in order to earn a living.

By the way, Akira Hayashi who is the episode director of Yoshihiro Kanno's episodes(Some examples:91,112,118,this week's 125) has an account also but she(?)(apologize if they're a male) doesn't tweet much about HxH. Just blurbs here and there when there are layouts to be done or that their episode is broadcasting the next week

Animation from what I've heard is EXTREMELY tedious work
and from the quality of HxH episodes you really got to appreciate
all the blood, sweat and tears that must go into each and every episode.
