Has there been any discussion of how an Uvo vs. Gon fight could have been? Both reinforcement and everything. I'd totally accept if any of you would debunk it on the spot and tell me Gon would lose in an instant as he's not developed enough- er... but then it might depend on what state Gon is in. Hmm. Let's say pre- metamorphosis Gon but post Greed Island... ??

I know another reason why Togashi went on hiatuses. He saw how Naruto had inspiration from his story and was like fuck this no more inspiration for you.

I actually thought about this a bunch of times. Naruto's story became way more linear when it came to shippuden, and those were the times Togashi coincidentally went on hiatuses.

I was reading through tumblr, and I came across something pretty interesting about Netero's character.

During Netero’s time on the mountain a butterfly is seen hovering around him. On his death, another butterfly emerges from the devastating power of the Poor Man’s Rose (Miniature Rose).

"A brief summary on butterfly symbolism:

The butterfly is a widely accepted symbol of transition or change because it goes through many stages of metamorphosis throughout its life.

In Japan a butterfly is also viewed as a symbol of one’s soul, living or dead. It is a personification of a person’s soul. It is also believed that souls take form of a butterfly as a sign of a person’s death.

Symbolism in HxH : There are a few ways to perceive this and everyone is entitled to do so however they want and below is how I see it.

On the first image it is quite easy to understand, that the butterfly essentially symbolizes Netero’s metamorphosis as he goes through the path of enlightenment. In a way, it also foreshadows Netero’s upcoming death. On its second appearance, during the finale of the fight between Netero and Meruem, the butterfly represents the departure of Netero’s soul from his body. In addition, It can also be viewed as Netero reaching ‘true enlightenment’, he emerges from the fight as a fully grown butterfly signalling the end of his journey.

For readers native in Japan, I assume this is something that they have caught on to quickly. I, on the other hand, after many, many times of re-reading, had only realized this now and I find it reassuring. Netero is my undisputed favourite in the series and it’s nice that Togashi portrayed him the way he did.

Butterflies are also often seen used with symbolism of Killua and Gon. Also there is at least 2 times for Kurapika. If you look you should find them.

What are y'all thoughts on the following?

Nen as the best "system" in all of Shonen?

Gon and Killua as the best duo in all of Shonen? (Note NOT rivals.)

Gon as the best Shonen protagonist or Killua as the best deutroagonist

It may sound like I'm just favoring HxH but I think this is the case. Nen is the best because it is the most grounded system I've seen but yet it results in
almost unlimited abilities...which are often MORE interesting then some of the more "free" systems. I think it's a case of limitations encouraging creativity.

There are a lot of rivals in Shonen but not as many duos it seems. Sometimes there will be the rival turned duo but often it will feel forced (though it can still be interesting) but Gon and Killua seems natural and they're just so much fun together. Like two peas in a pod. And they are both incredibly bad ass.

Gon and Killua are the best protagonists because while they are always Gon and Killua there growth feels very real. Also they are not characters who were annoying and became likable. They were always likable characters and became even more interesting. A lot of shonen manga have growing characters--in a sense that's
the point of shonen. But Gon and Killua seem like at least to some degree everyone they meet has an influence on them and so it feels like not do they matter
but all the people they meet. I mean just think...Would Gon be the same person...If he never met Hisoka? Or how about even Tonpa? I think they all
have an effect on Gon.

I think some other shonens put too much emphasis on the protagonist. Granted, a protagonist is a protagonist for a reason. Hunter x Hunter is essentially Gon's story, and how others have influenced Gon as a character. However, Togashi doesn't ignore his other characters for the sake of focusing just on Gon. You see just as much growth from Killua, Meryem, and others.

If this was your stereotypical shounen, Gon would've trained and trained, and then was strong enough to beat Meryem in a shonen-esque battle while the others and were struggling to beat a Royal Guard. Togashi at least keeps things realistic. No, Gon and Killua, although gifted and dedicated to their training are not going to be as strong as Morau or Netero right away.

Hunter has some of the best fights I've seen in shonen, hands down. Gon and Killua aren't rivals at each others throats all the time. Killua has no desire to be "better than Gon", and Gon shares the same sentiments. And throughout the series it's clear that the two are pretty much on an equal level (ignoring Adult Gon). They have strengths and abilities that complement the other very well.

Plus, Gon is such an interesting character himself, and he certainly has an unconventional view on life. And the other 3 mains are very interesting and enjoyable themselves. Normally, and this is just my taste, I find the main protagonist dull but fall in love with all the other characters. That's not the case this time around.

I was wondering something...

Who is on the cover of Volume 15?

Now I know what the response is going to be "Biscuit Krueger, DUH" and that's what I thought at first.

But then...why does it look NOTHING like Biscuit? See for yourself. Volume 15 character is above and now Biscuit Kreuger from inside Volume 15

Completely different


The hair style is different. Color is hard to tell since it's black and white.

Eye shape is different.

Biscuit despite the OVAs never really seems to wear lipstick

Biscuit has never worn that same clothing as the character on the cover of volume 15 and it doesn't really look like something Biscuit would wear. It's more gothic lolita (think Misa Amane from Death Note) whereas Biscuit looks more like she wears something Victorian
I think (I'm not sure what the actual style is) but Biscuit has a very cutesy outfit that
makes her look innocent and playful while the character on the cover wears something
that looks like it belongs on a doll. In fact the entire appearance is very doll like--
which Biscuit has never struck me as looking as so.

And then there's the bloody stuffed rabbit--
First I don't remember Biscuit having ANY stuffed animals nor the type to be into them.
Biscuit likes jewelry. And while Biscuit can kick some serious butt and is a little twisted
with her trying to destroy Gon and Killua's friendship at first...She's not all that morbid.
Extremely tough, yes. But she doesn't seem to have any morbid fascination, I don't think.

So who's the girl on Volume 15
