I am staying positive here, I think he is going to return this year.
It will just be a fun short 'detour'.

Might even be a new routine for him to do ten chaps and then do a short hiatus.
It might well be that 20 strain him too much and he deliberately releases them apart so he can take short breaks, even tho the rough sheets might be finished.

After looking into the latest arc again, I am pretty sure that it will go down like this:

The arc we are currently in will the the 'arrive at the DC' arc and its length will be from chapter 340 to chapter 420, so 80 chaps.
We have had exactly 20 chaps in this arc until the black whale departs, and that means we are almost at the halfway point of it (in nine to ten chaps).

Then something noteable will happen, and i would bet on the banquet, which will set off events that make things much more urgent, for example lots of princes dying, chrollo or beyond making his move etc.

I would assume the arc ending with the arrival of the black whale OR the boarding of Morel's ship.
