Hi, I wanted to ask you guys about something:


Is it possible to change my name to "JustPassingBy"?
It's the nick I use in all my Edited Manga work.

BUT there is already one user with the nick "justpassingby".
That's also the reason why I had to choose the nick I have now instead of "JustPassingBy" when I created this account.
And that's the reason why I post this in the inquiry thread instead of the name change thread.
(The account "justpassingby" most likely wasn't created by me, because it doesn't use one of my standart email adresses or passwords.)
(As for my Edited Manga works, just look into any of the releases from http://mangahelpers.com/s/nerieru-scans)

The user "justpassingby" himself has been inactive for almost a year I think and has only one post in total:

The problem is that we have a policy to not delete inactive accounts. One reason is to keep the forums archive organized in the long run (we don't want to have 'Deleted User' or something as name besides a post) and also because we encounter very often that people come back after a long time. A wide majority of manga readers are students after all.

Also we don't change usernames at the request of somebody else without the owner's agreement. Maybe try PMing him? In that case we would simply rename you both. We also won't mind changing your username to something else, though. For example, replacing the 'Hm' with a (tm) or (c) or similar. Some kind of decoration lines (*, ~ or maybe a kanji)?

Believe me, I understand your mess. My short nick is given away all to often, so I tend to switch between eni, enini and a third alternative name. It's a hassle but that's a very typical problem of online communities. It's best to have a handful of alternatives and not rely on a single name alone.

Is there a policy change to disallow any Cam raws to be uploaded? If so, would it be ok for you guys to get rid of the option of choosing it altogether (in the raw upload page) as well as informing the general public of this decision?

An update for that Stella, yes, we will abolish the CAM option from the system.

I don't know if I should post here or in beta-test thread, but here we go.
More and more in-house tools in companies are web-based applications to edit core business data. So, what about manga Edited Manga community, the future would be to have all the functionalities through a browser to clean, typeset, etc. contents (so, manga pages) stored in a server.
That's a also the Web 2.0 philosophy.
It could be extended to translators that can directly overlay their text on the manga pages through the right interface. It would be easy to switch from the original text to the English or another translation.

Another point is to make the reading more dynamic going from panel to panel (maybe add real sound to SFX). It would be also an interesting feature for mobile phones and others in order to read manga.

Do I dream too much?

Update on the CAMs, the option is now removed.

As for the suggestion Mero, we don't have a plan for such things yet, but who knows, maybe in the future MH is growing fast, so we need to focus on the core functions first, then perhaps all the extras that we can offer.

yo, i have a few complaints. i become since few days spam mails that obviously try to make me download some virus/trojan or who knows what else. it's always another member with 0 posts and in another language. one is already banned and i reported another one but it doesn't seem to help. can you block the ip or something?

As soon as you reported the PMs these users were banned. (Banned users cannot PM). Unfortunately there's only so much we can do with these and sometimes IP block isn't an option. Especially when proxies are used. If this happens again, please report the PM right away and we will take care of it.

I want to access archived translations but I am told I don't have permission. Is there a reason for that?

All the translations are now in the web system. We no longer use the forums (that's why you get that error).

You can search for translations in two ways:

By manga: http://mangahelpers.com/manga/browse/
(search the manga you want > go to the manga page > click translation tab)

By translator: http://mangahelpers.com/translators/browse/
(just search the name of the translator you wanted to search)
* click the "Show New Translators" at the bottom to see the complete list

Not yet. We usually let the boards stay for a few months or weeks till the active discussion died out.

So far we always merged boards into one mega thread. But it's hurts us a little to do this with ES21. We'll probably archive the board later but there's no ill done by letting it stay for a while
