Ok after the latest chapter i'm getting a Shaman King vibe from them. Anyone read that manga or watched the anime? Remember how the main protagonist Yoh was the twin of main antagonist Hao and it turned out they were just two halves of one powerful ancient Shaman that kept reincarnating himself? Maybe it's something like that. Now I doubt Hiro will go the reincarnation route, i hope he doesn't personally, but what if it's a similar concept? The past and future timelines come into play a lot in Fairy Tail. Maybe the original, let's call her Erzarene (ok fine let's not) before she was defeated, by who and why i don't know, the past is weird, made preparations so she could "return" or be reborn at a particular point in the future? What she didn't count on was her power being split between two persons. Now if you remember Shaman King, Yoh had no idea he had a "twin brother" or what he really was like Erza and her amnesia. Whereas Hao knew every single detail about their past and considered himself the "real" one, and went as far as to train/develop Yoh into becoming stronger so he could absorb him. Right now it seems Irene would prefer killing Erza, but it's shown that even though they are the same person they're capable of existing separately, only weaker than the original Scarlet witch.

Now this, for those that never read/watched Shaman King, is a basic overview of Hao/Yoh's past/resolution:

In his most recent reincarnation, Hao chose to reincarnate as a member of the Asakura family, as a pair of identical twins to be born to Keiko Asakura, splitting his soul between himself and Yoh. In hopes of at least stopping Hao until the next Shaman Fight, Keiko's father, Yohmei, and her husband Mikihisa, decided to kill both children. However, following his rebirth, Hao escaped from the Asakura family with the help of the Spirit of Fire, while badly burning Mikihisa and sparing his twin brother with the promise to reclaim him some day. After escaping from the Asakura family, Hao was raised by Blocken Meyer. When Hao was five years old, he began travelling the world and accumulating loyal followers while simultaneously leaving a wake of destruction in areas of conflict and killing those who would not join him while survivors would eventually gather together to seek revenge in the Shaman Fight. In the months leading up to the tournament Hao began to kill prospective competition while gathering an entourage to assist him in winning the current Shaman King tournament.

When it becomes apparent that Hao cannot be defeated in a direct confrontation, Yoh and his allies elect to allow Hao to become Shaman King uncontested and begin an alternate plan to eliminate Hao as he sleeps to merge with the Great Spirit. Yoh and his friends are unable to reach Hao before he awakens, after which he annihilates everyone within the proximity of the continent of Mu, where the final round of the Shaman Fight had been taking place. Within the Great Spirit, Hao is confronted with the souls of nearly everyone he has ever encountered who have come to save him from his loneliness and he begins to doubt his own heart. After finally reuniting with the spirit of his mother after 1000 years, she reprimands his behavior and encourages him to love and have faith in humanity. No longer blinded by hatred, he accepts the promise of Yoh and his friends to try and change the world for the better and tells them that he would watch over them and see what would happen.

This is one theory I had when i saw the chapter. I have to look at it more. It's a very unique situation between these two ladies that's for sure.

I like this part a lot, I can see something like at the end of the Irene-Erza fight, after they fuse, Erza is met with the decision whether to use the name Irene/Erza from that point on.
She might actually use a new name at the end of this fight.
Perhaps the name of the Scarlet Witch?

I honestly hope she keeps "Erza". That's who we all know. I can't see myself calling her anything else. I hope they remain separate

I change my mind. Now I think that Irene and Erza are the same person. During Rosemary child-hunting action Irene detached part of her and attached it to some dead girl, in order to increase her changes to stay alive (half of her personality would live even the second part died). However I am not sure if Hiro would troll us that much and make main character a fake...

I think originally there was an wizard named Irene Belserion.She due to some reasons decided to separate her personality or her body part or create a clone which we now know as Erza.We should remember that Erza doesn't remember her surname it is like that she came out of nowhere.It is because she was originally created by Irene.

I like the theories that are most sensible for my brain to accept.
- Family relation
- Detached persona provided it's explained reasonably (doesn't need to be water tight, but I don't want a sieve either). There's already the 2 girls that were enchanted swords, so it's magically possible.

Unlikely to be sensible
- future person
- kidney

I wonder if we'll get anything new with the Mt Zonia legend.

Also if Erzarene will exist, then Erza will be strong enough to at least help in the fight against Acnologia. I can sort of see that happening plot wise. Although I just prefer it being DS v Acno tbh (only person that comes in is Larcade and/or FH-Zeref)

I think we can rule out she's Future Erza..... Irene wanted Neinhart to kill her so which means she would die if that happens. I saw people say "maybe she's Edolas Erza????"

Alternate timeline sounds cool but can be tricky so idk....

I like Bel's theory, it just makes sense they were split into two entities when Erza was young. Erza can be the "pleasure" Irene the "pain/agony" part of each other. Although I'm not sure who's container body is the main one. So if Irene absorbs Erza or vice versa, either way RIP.

Wouldn't mind a dark/light theme going on, especially with all this talk of black/white this arc. Idk, I feel like this will be good either way. Future Erza continues to not make sense though.

Add to that that Irene was surprised that Erza is alive after all why would she been surprised if she's from the future
That alone is making future Erza theory makes no sense


As or Irene words in Latest chapter I will one more time tell that I have come across in some books and movies when that Sentence was used by either twin or parent so it doesn't set anything for me

But I will stick to Twin ( or sister )/Mother or something like @Belserion theory I won't be surprised at either outcome

Facts wife..... I told you my theory a minute ago but I thought Hiro could finesse a specific reason why Jellal's followers at the time targerted Rosemary, maybe they were looking for someone who is talented in the magic power department and captured Irene or separated Erza and Irene from each other. But could be a plot hole in that thought. Still I'm like 70% positive Rosemary will be at least mentioned when discovering Irene's true persona... why would Zeref's followers target Rosemary specifically is my thought process?

For the workers to build ToH Rosemary Village wasn't they only target ( Rob and CS + Jellal etc. aren't from Rosemary ) but they could target Kids from Rosemary Village because of they magic potential that later may could prove useful for they goals ( 4 characters ( if we count Irene in it :P ) from Rosemary have magic inside of them )..

Erza remembers everything that happens during Rosemary incident but we have no info backwards ( but it looks like she knew Simon before ToH or find out about it during she was held captive ) so if anything like create another self occurs and causes that Memory lack would be before the Child Hunt ( I'm just theorising But it was Erza who have remembers Kagura more clearly than opposite so she has memory before ToH:P )

I'm 100 % sure that Rosemary will be brought in a convo ( Ok 90 % :P ) earlier I was also hoping for some dark secret behind Child Hunt going there or even some dark secret about the village itself ( Kagura and Simon also didn't have parents there ) We will see what Hiro has in store for us


Also, I have to ask if Irene is the another side of coin of Erza then wouldn't she despite everything Erza was cared about when she was created ?? For Example, if this happens during ToH wouldn't Irene despise Kagura and Jellal etc. with a full heart ?

I voted sister and i'm still sticking to that. Although i should have voted "Twins" but technically it's the same thing lol. So when Irene said it's been "far far too long" I'm thinking she means since birth lol. But I also remember her being slightly triggered by Heine mentioning Ishgar so I hope Hiro doesn't forget to mention why she defected. We didn't even get to know God Serena's reason

off topic, but we kinda know why he wanted to cross over... to look for Acnologia/get him to stop hiding from him. He thought crossing over to Alvarez might of been the best option and it worked but unfortunately....

Well she didn't wreck everything around her so I considered it only "slightly" lol. She did look about to snap though I also like that they showed her soft side with Juliet and Heine, which in Hiro-land means there's hope for redemption. Not Nakama though. She should just become a wandering mage like Gildarts.

Your theory gave me another idea.In D Gray Man Mana Campbell and Nea Campbell were originally the same coming from Millenium Earl.Maybe Erza is also like this.

What if both Erza and Irene are clones of some original "Erza" who may have been a powerful mage in the past or smthg like that. Let's say they were both considered failed products and discarded (or maybe just Erza). For now I'll stick with this conjecture (until trollshima destroys it next week)...



Just for funsies : Irene is a mage who swapped bodies with an Erza in some parallel universe using some powerful artifact (most likely some giant balls of dragon Lachryma), then traveled to this current universe and settled in alvares...
