During her childhood torture, erza lost her RIGHT EYE, either through her own actions or that of a protector (eg a fairy of origin or a god). Lots of fan angst has been spent on the fact that she wins because "she's erza", but if she is protected by a god tier character it is actually important that the protection is evident in the story. It is simply too perfect not to be the basis of these two characters. Irene must be erza's right eye, formed during her torture as a child to punish humanity.

Very astute analysis, I pretty much am in love with your references to Egyptian Mythology in this post.
Although one thing I'm wondering, who breathed life into Erza's right eye? Did it come into life on its own?

Erza was the source of Irene. It happened when she was tortured in the tower of heaven and lost her eye. The give away is Irene's lion staff. Irene clearly parallels Sekhmat, the eygyptian lion goddess who loved causing suffering and was a manifestation of the eye of ra (which was the RIGHT "eye" eygyptian symbol, vs the eye of horus which was the left). She was the protector of Pharoahs (zeref) and led them in warfare. She was a solar deity usually depicted dressed in red (scarlet). She was the harsh aspect of the lunar godess of joy and love, Hathor (erza) and was known as the "mistress of dread"/ "the red lady" (the scarlet despair) and "mighty one of enchantments". One story is that she was transformed FROM Hathor by ra to punish humanity, and as "the right eye of ra" did so until the gods (?zeref ? Ankersham) grew weary of it and tricked her into getting drunk by making a vast amount of beer look like blood, which she drank.

Looking into this, a very large amount of fairy tail is eygptian beyond just the obvious talking cats. But what does it mean for the story? Was it just inspiration? Who knows. In the end, the repair of ra's right eye is complicated and once repaired it becomes Wedjet/Nekhbet, a nurturing godess with pendulous white breasts who protects horus (?natsu) from Set and marries..... get this..... Hapy, a water God named "lord of the fishes" and depicted as a blue man. Their child was nefertem, Lord of perfume (or should I say parfum). Obviously ezra isn't going to marry happy and ichiya is not their son, but she may, once she repairs her right eye by merging with Irene, do what sekhmet did and marry the first person she sees (guess who). And I think at the very least we can trust Hiro to make further use of wedjet/nekhbets "pendulous white breasts" in his drawings beyond just the recent calming of natsu and grey.

Doesn't Zeref have a history of breathing life into objects via Living Magic? That could be one possibility for this theory.

I feel like Irene could be the main/container body so she could end up to absorb her or vice versa so it's a way Erza will eventually beat her. It won't happen in this arc I think, Irene's potential should exceed the Alvarez arc and hopefully Hiro agrees.

Erza's last name is gonna turn out to be Belserion, 100% sure. Just makes sense, Jellal gave her her "last name" so we never knew the real one

I'm about to support the Erza/Irene future theory. Like what if when Irene said "I am you and You are me" she meant she's from the future. Like what if she wasn't talking to just Erza but Wendy too. Which brings me to the conclusion that:

Two pigtails each equals Irene's four pigtails.The gloves she wears are a result of her hands being wrecked by Gray and Natsu. Erza was in some sort of "can't win" fight and Wendy finds a way to fuse her power to Erza, thus fulfilling her promise to protect her. Wendy's enchantments and Erza's re-equip magics are Irene's main magics enhanced by the fusion, which is why she can make people out of swords. She chose that outfit to fulfill Erza's wish of being a "witch". Why she's chosen to side with Zeref this time around is anyone's guess.

About your Wendy DS point, I think if we look at it like that, it explains why exactly Irene was intent on going after Acnologia, half of her is a Dragon Slayer and sent from 400 years in the past with the intention of taking down Acnologia, so really she was just carrying out half of her body's initial purpose
I think she used New Age hairdo on her hair and that's why it looks like that tbh, so basically, Wendy and Irene merged and then decided to drop the old ways and go full on hipster mode

But Acnologia will enter the battlefield after that. Same time END awakens. And they'll go their separate ways, Irene to confront/stall Acnologia, and Erza/Wendy to help stop "Natsu". It's probably something Acnologia did in the future/present which is why Irene wants Zeref to get Fairy Heart so badly. He promised to kill Acnologia if she joined him.

I think judging from Larcade's magic involving sex and Irene being effected by it ,i developed a new theory.


Irene once married someone and had a child most probably a daughter.But her husband was very violent towards her and recieved no parental love.She died and Irene killed her husband.We saw in her treatment of Hisui she hates parental love.Then she separated a body part or her personality and created Erza.

Well I'm make a crack theory of my own, but I'll borrow elements of the future Erza thing, and from another anime (hence the crack part). Namely "I am you, you are me" - a quote I will revisit.

The hole in the future theory is having Neinhart 'kill' Erza. Should we assume Irene's gloves are to cover the frostbite/burn marks, then wouldn't killing Erza = death? Or, since she's still alive, Irene knows Erza won't die anyway. But then why send Neinhart? For lolz maybe.

But I'll do my best to come up for a way out here. I don't wanna hurt my head with time loops, so I'll use a particular part of the anime "Monster" to serve as inspiration for what Irene/Erza are. Note I'm making this intentionally as a crack theory, for fun.


I don't want to get into the Monster anime in great detail, but at the end of the God of Peace story, Anna figures that the God will want to shoot himself in the head, to defeat the devil (you see Johan as a kid point to his head, which is a memory of Anna's before she shot him). Johan wants to achieve a perfect suicide, where everyone/most who knows of him is dead, his way of being the last person on earth.

"I am you, you are me" used by the devil, obviously... but for Johan it meant he and Anna are the same. He did dress up as her as you see early in the clip. He did this as well when they were kids. For Irene and Erza, they are presumably the same person.

So Irene might want to commit a similar perfect suicide. The war is meant to be a genocide of all Ishgal, and in the end Zeref wants to wipe out all. So on this day humanity should be coming to an end, either via Zeref or Acnologia. This will erase everyone who knows Erza or Irene (except either Zeref or Acno, but Johan's perfect suicide would not have been perfect either). So all Irene has to do is kill Erza. If she got Neinhart to do it, it would have been an order from her, basically the same as suicide. If she does it with her own hands... it's suicide.

The other possibility is that Erza cannot defeat Irene, and she comes to the realisation that no one can. So to defeat her, Erza commits suicide.

The first time she appear i was like erza's mother.. then suddenly she became very sentiment about the black and white angels then she go after acnologia. And i was like maybe she is Mermaid Heels Guild Master since Kagura seems to idolized Erza in some way...
