..well actually I'm gonna add more fuel into that fire .. Since Mermaid Heels Guild Master identity is still unknown..
The first time she appear i was like erza's mother.. then suddenly she became very sentiment about the black and white angels then she go after acnologia. And i was like maybe she is Mermaid Heels Guild Master since Kagura seems to idolized Erza in some way...
ohhh. yessss... that would be epic.. since irene is busy learning magic from the black wizard and they are forbidden to step foot in ishagar kagura left in-charge and milliana is not aware of the true identity of their master..
Odd.
So the most voted for option ended up being the answer in the end?
Well then, cheers to all those who got it right.
Personally I voted for sister but it seems I was way off the mark
Oh well, here's to hoping that the next few weeks revolving Irene and Erza end up being some of the best moments of this arc
Ok so even though she's Erza's mom there's still another layer. I'm assuming we're allowed to continue the speculation. This is how I think she may have been the Dragon Queen
Theory 1: She's from a time before 400 years ago. A lot of people seem fixated on the fact that Acnologia didn't know her. This could be the reason. The dragons didn't originate 400 years ago, so maybe it's that she's from a time before. Acnologia also didn't invent the "Dragon King/Queen" title. As for her scent, she's a high enchanter. Pretty sure it would be easy for her to mask it
Theory 2: She has a Hashirama necklace. Naruto fans know what i'm talking about. The necklace that allowed the first to control the tailed beasts. Maybe Irene had something like this, or the magic Future Rogue used to control the seven dragons. Some sort of external force to bring them under her control
Theory 3: Irene herself is a dragon. She's the reverse of Acnologia. A dragon that somehow became a human. Or it could be she was a savage dragon and was "cursed" to become a human as punishment for her deeds against humanity. Ankhseram might not be the only God out there cursing people. And seriously "The scarlet Despair" could be a hint to Irene's dragon activities
Theory 4: Acnologia wasn't the first to transform from human to dragon. The first Dragon king had the same ability, and Irene fell in love with him. They got married. She became the queen. Quite simple
Those are a few swirling around in my head. I didn't include Erza in any speculation because this is about Irene. Her birth and the "Mystery" surrounding it will come later

This takes the cake for most badass prediction though
I love the part where Irene is cursed to become a human, it feels strangely workable somehow, she should make a sentiment on how she has 'been placed in a mortal body' and how she finds it unworthy of her power.
Theory 1 or Theory 3 would be my favorite outcomes by far. #3 just sounds amazing, it really is the reverse Acno . If I had to put money on one, I would say the first theory would be the most likely outcome. I just wanna know why she looks like how she looks, what if she had something of a time ring similar to like Zamasu from DBS. It would be convenient but since with Eclipse you need the 12 keys or an acting source of power to open it so there are much worst options. I would find it dope and wouldn't mind, op characters get the benefit of the doubt

Alright, time to try my hand at this.
Has anyone here watched the series called Merlin?
Ever since Irene revealed herself to be a former Queen of the Dragons, it reminded me of this race of mages in Merlin who were referred to as Dragon Lords.
Now, for a quick description from the wiki, I think this is a set of abilities that Irene is going to have with this new revelation, along with the secret of Erza's birth:
-Once they inherited their gift, all Dragonlords were able to speak to any Dragon in the language shared by their souls. The Dragonlords could use their abilities to force tasks upon Dragons, as they had no say in the commands they were given. This communication appeared to be, at least in some part, telepathic as Merlin and Kilgharrah were able to hear one another over long distances.
-They even have their own sub variety of magic, Dragonlords magic.
Personally, I think that Irene was never always in possession of enchantment magic. I think that it's something that Zeref taught her after she had lost the initial use of her magic. Which is related to Dragons. This also helps to explain why Acnologia never picked up on any residual traces of a Dragon smell from her. She lost all remnants of her Dragon related magic due to something that happened 400 years ago.
-By forcing a Dragon to submit to them, Dragonlords can then ride the creature, giving them control over its natural might.
-Only a Dragonlord can cause a Dragon egg to hatch, calling the mature embryo in the egg from its dormant state and out of the shell with its name.
Now, something to note about this last point, as I think it's what ties into Erza's birth, because Irene went out of her way to make it sound like Erza was not born under natural circumstances.
So the general gist of things would be that, Erza was hatched from a Dragon egg, and Irene was the one who watched over the egg, which in a sense, would make her Erza's mother.
Sound good enough?
Irene is from X000, has a dragon requip, and used Nakagami to travel to the current time, for reasons I do not know. Damn, I shoulda put spoiler tags around that
Because it's assumed Erza will get a power up, she has to get a requip... and not some "other" magic. This is why Irene will have a dragon requip, and she looks a lot like Erza previously with attire to boot.
I don't believe Irene participated in the Dragon Civil war, nor has a connection to Acnologia. Even in this current battle, Zeref is the one calling out Acno, not Irene... to her Acnologia is someone who the Emperor is wary of.
So for those reasons, I am abandoning any theory involving Eclipse time travel (hence the Nakagami bit) because it would be plot hole city if Hiro had to work his way through all those pre-established notions. I chose X000 because what did happen at that marker?
But with next chapter being Dragon Seed, and there being a "secret" around Erza's birth, there's more to stuff to be revealed. We don't know why Irene had to come to the current era... what is the purpose? And why is she fine with killing Erza?
Yeah my original speculation that Irene is the mother of Erza came true.Yeah i am so happy.
Now i think there are many possibilties.
1)Irene is originally a Dragon who later turned into a human. The reasons are her both hands are complete Dragon like.
2)She is like Acnologia who turned into a Dragon. The reasons are the same as above.
3)She is a human who can control Dragons and has Dragon like qualities.
4)She is involved with the origin of the Dragons. She is their queen therefore.I just wonder who is Erza's father?A Dragon or a human. She may be much before the rise of Acnologia.
And the chapter ending text seems to indicate that Erza was born in the past.
Add
As the next chapter is called "Dragon Seed" i feel that Irene is somehow involved with the origin of the Dragons.Maybe she is a human who created and controlled Dragons. Then she crowned herself as the queen of the Dragons.
Theory 3: Irene herself is a dragon. She's the reverse of Acnologia. A dragon that somehow became a human. it would be best that she is not a simple human loved by the dragons. making her a former dragon turned human would be cool. plus, with enchantment magic she can hide her scent I guess.
@Axiomus pointed it out that if she was a former dragon Acno would of smelled her. I still think it's super easy to finesse this though, enchantments can virtually do anything so it's not crazzzzy to say she was fully enchanted into a human. I would love the dragon theory. Also hopefully we find out who invaded Ishgar in X781 too, Zeref stopped it cause of Face and Etherion but it seems the most likely 12 who invaded was Irene. She is originally from there.

I was reading some of the earlier chapters of this arc and in Zeref's conversation with Makarov, he said that the previous invasion happened because of a Spriggan who was impatient. (since he wasn't present at the time).
He also mentions more than one did this but the CR translations have at as only one so I assume that's official.
Could that have maybe been Irene? It feels like it would fit her personality.

Well, and he would probably also be able to recognize her magic as dragon slaying magic.
I think Irene has history with the dragons, but her magic itself probably doesn't have anything to do with them.
The poll is closed (for the person pointing it out above).
Anyways, I really think the title means exactly what it means--which is that Irene was once a dragon, and queen of them at that. I'm going for the theory currently that the "Dragon seed" title for next chapter is referencing Irene and not actually Erza, which will show that Irene was once a dragon in the past and used enchantment magic to become human.
To be honest though, I'm excited for any of the theories. Either way it means Irene is badass. She either conquered the dragons and they made her their queen, she was so powerful they acknowledged her as a queen, she befriended them and was so respected she was accepted as queen or was actually a dragon and ruled over and protected them.
Given the final panel of the last chapter was young Eileen as a human together with Dragons makes me think that she is still a human, perhaps she was raised by Dragons
At first all we had to go on was their resemblance. But I like their similar personality traits showing themselves. Erza is more like her mom than she wants to think. I'm waiting for that little sadistic streak to appear in her. She does like to "discipline" Time for her to stop getting tortured and do the torturing. Irene could teach her that.
